Really looking forward to the diversity of the three different show settings for this tour - Opening for Neil, the 1 hour late afternoon spots at the BDO and of course the 'Evening With' shows.  Be interesting to see how the set-lists are mixed up for each type of gig.

Not long now!
At my house, we call them uh-ohs.

Back to the front page, where this belongs!

I'm pumped! I'm going to the sideshow @ Billboard and seeing them with Neil Young the following night.

I downloading the NYE MSG gig earlier and am almost finished listening to it in one sitting..... holy **** is all I can say!

By the way, Beebif, where did you download the NYE show from? Good quality?

Thanks

Hey guys, check this out. A really cool interview with Jim James and The Ages' eg section that i found in todays paper. It talks about long setlists, i.e Bonnaroo. Hopefully that can trigger MMJ to play long sideshow sets :P

1 hr sets at the BDO are the norm unfortunately.  As the headliner, Neils got 90 minutes though.  Also happy that they're not on either main stage.  Makes it alot easier to get nice and close.   And its a bit of a bonus having TV On The Radio on right before them.  Means I wont need to move...

The side shows are billed as 'an evening with' and no supports have been announced (that I've noticed) so I'm hoping that means a 2 1/2 - 3 hr set, which leaves lots of time for a nice long Steam Engine. We can only hope.  :D

Well for the Melbourne side show (and i'm sure it will be the same for syd) it says on the website they are doing 2 sets. Billboards states they are doing a set from 9:00 - 10:00 then a second set from 10:30 to close. I think close is after 12...

So it is all looking good. I have never seen them live before coz i'm a newbie. I am very excited! :D

Howdy,
In respect to the comment about only Aussies able to get tickets, I managed to get them through webtickets no problem and I'm in New Zealand.
Can't wait to see them at the Billboard - can't believe their playing such a small venue and that it's not sold out. Oh well, more room for the rest of us.
Neil Young is  my fav alltime artist and MMJ my fav band since I happened upon It Still Moves a few years back, so super excited about these shows. I decided against the Auckland Big Day Out because one hour and 90min slots just wouldn't be enough.
Anyone know what the Myers outdoor theatre is like for shows? I didn't manage to get the seated tickets so a little anxious about what it's going to be like up on the hill...

Hey Matt D - in regards to the Myer Music Bowl, its a great venue to see gigs at.  The seating area at the front is not that big, maybe 25 rows or so. If you get to the venue early enough and get a spot near the front of the grass area you'll have a great veiw.  Even if your back a bit, its on a pretty good slope so your veiw shouldnt be impeeded by people in front of you.

Seen a few bands at the Music bowl over the years REM in 94, Pearl Jam in '95 when 40,000 people decided to knock down the temporary fences and join in the fun.  There wasnt much security could do except let them. That was an interesting and squashy night!  Dont think Neil fans will be quite as aggresive...  And of course saw Neil there in 2003.

Are you going to any aother Neil shows while you're over or just Melbourne?

Re: Myer Music Bowl.

Just as Ralph was saying, if you get in early enough and get a spot at the front of the grass area, you will have a great view. I've been to gigs in the seating and standing areas. Personally i would choose seating, but standing is not far off. Although it is a slope, i have made the mistake of being right up the back and had a restricted view.

i will go as far as saying Myer Music Bowl is the second best venue in Melbourne, just behing The Forum (MMJ there would be a dream). The sound is great, the only problem with the venue is alot of bands can't pull off a gig there, just because of the acoustics.

I hope this info was helpful...

And also Billboards is the size of my bathroom (in a non-literal sense). I can't wait. I saw Battles there last year and it felt as if i was part of the set. I will be getting in early and scoring a front row spot...

Cheers for the info, pleased to hear Myers sounds like a cracker - I've walked about it before, but not at a show. Billboard sounds very cosy, will be sure to get there early (esp. since no opening act).

Won't be checking out any other Neil concerts I'm afraid, BDO or trip to Sydney didn't fit the budget (particularly since we also have Leonard Cohen, Ryan Adams coming up and are still paying off a USA honeymoon).

My wife and I are looking forward to our week in Melbourne - it's a lovely city.

Yeah welcome steve, i am a relatively new fan also!!!

It will be an excellent show(s).

I am now seeing The Melvins on the afternoon of the 27th, and then walking 2 blocks to see MMJ. It will be a pretty big day!

Next Thursday...... :D :o 8-) :)
How loud can silence get?

nickdavies7

Shit yeah maddon. It will amazing. U checked out the Billboard website?
It says they are doing 2 sets. one from 9-10, the next from 10:30 - close. I know there is no curfew on the venue so hopefully close is 5am  :D

But in alll seriousness i think they will play until 12....hopefully...

I hear the Perth BDO has had some location issues?
