Hey guys

Fucking hell, what a show. I am drenched in sweat (not hard seeing as it was a stinking hot day to begin with!) and I just had to write a few words about tonight before I go home (I'm currently back at the office).

Tonight was fucking amazing. I was against the barrier right in front of Jim, managed to get a few choice photos that I will put up in a day or so. I managed to get some vids as well, hopefully they will come out okay!

I don't have a set list here, as I forgot my phone today and that's how I was going to list them. It's all a bit of a daze, but the highlights would have to be:

  • Bermuda Highway (Jim James solo)
  • Dondante went off
  • Jim's rant about Melbourne being made of melted lego and babies brains and how he thought it was hilarious that some kids were spray painting the Cathedral during the day and no one cared... I got some of the rant on video, very very funny observation!
I managed to get one of Patrick's drum sticks - apologies to the guy next to me who went to grab it, and then the guy gave it to me! I'll take good care of it :)

I also saw the guys go into their hotel during my walk back to work. Yelled out that they were fucking awesome, Jim (with towel still on his head) and Tommy gave me the thumbs up :)

Anyway, I need to go home as I have to be back in the office in 6 hours... ugh. Looking forward to hearing how everyone else's night was!!!  :D :D :D

Well, well, well, my comrades. that would have to be the GREATEST PEROFROMANCE I HAVE EVER SEEN. And, no, it isn't the 10 beers and lack of sleep in my system speaking.
I was not dissappointed at any point of the show. They just kept playing the songs as if it was the last song before they died!!!!
I had a spare ticket and took a mate along who had never heard of them before... he was blown away. He said he will buy their whole catalogue tomorrow....!!

Before the show, i said, I want Bermuda Highway...Well i FKN got it!! I almost cried it was that amazing. There were some people near me who hadn't heard the song before, and they were in awe...

I will write a full review tomorrow...and i will also mention; THE PIECE OF SHIT TICKETING SYSTEM THAT WAS USED, WHICH I WILL WRITE A LETTER TO MOSHTIX ASKING FOR AN EXPLAINATION. THOSE WHO WENT KNOW WHAT I MEAN...PLZ SUPPORT ME...I DON'T WANT THAT TO RUIN WHAT A WONDERFUL NIGHT IT WAS FOR THOSE INVOLVED.

Anyway, i am drunk with adrenaline, i need some sleep!!!

Peace Out

Oh, yeah, you notice how they did all of EU except Aluminum Park and Two Halves (and obviously, Good Intentions)?????? They just kept pumping out new stuff.

P.S LOZL at red tipped bannana!!!

Nice Nick!  You got your Bermuda HWY! [smiley=beer.gif]
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

GoBears

i believe it is Mahgeeta

"silent h, double e"

yeah, this show rocked. way better crowd than at the Metro in sydney.

Less crowded, and way more bumping.

Was good to see all the ozzies actually get into the music....no offense, but the sydney shows were boooooring in the crowd.

"The buildings here all look like dripping leggos"
...so spot on. He must have had a great walk around Melbourne.

And just like that, Jim James is gone with his cape and hamburgler hat.

Actually if you are going to get technical, it's Mahgeetah.   H in the middle, H at the end.

Wow, half the Mahgeetahs in my library are spelled wrong.  Thanks B&H!

What a gorgeous setlist.  This:

The Way That He Sings
Evelyn
Golden
War Begun

!!!!!

and then THIS:

Touch Me Part 2 >> Cobra >> Run Thru

AND THEN THIS?!?!

Wordless Chorus
Highly Suspicious
Anytime
One Big Holiday

Surprised the venue didn't just blast off its moorings and rocket into space at that point!

Lucky, lucky, lucky.

Here are a few of the photos (They're mostly of Jim, as he was the most easily photographed!) taken last night (haha Ralph, that guy was obnoxious! Oh well, it's all in good fun!) Hopefully they're not too big. I'll chuck them all up for those that may be interested in the next day or so.

A couple of the videos came out really well, too - parts of War Begun solo (how could I forget that in my original post?!!?) and Lay Low being the best ones.

Yeah, by this point i found it all pretty amazing.

I gotta say i was largely pretty pissed off and over it for the most of the two hours before. The whole ticketing thing was disgraceful. We got there way early (8) but didn't actually get in until 9:40 and then the band came on 5 minutes later and we just couldn't find a good spot. Bit of a shame as its been almost 5 long years since i saw them play at the Corner and last night passed me by a bit. Terrible fucking dive of a venue. The Forum Theatre was built for MMJ, they would of been awesome there.

Awesome bloody show though guys - i understood that much.

Great pics, Beeb!

So, two questions:

1. Who did the poster?  It's gorgeous.
2.  Uh...what's the deal with the banana?

Thanks for sharing, Beebif!

And from the looks of that set list, I'm thinking JJ is fully recovered.  :)

Not sure who did the poster, I love it though, can't wait to get it framed up.

Jim asked the crowd wtf was with the red tip on the bananas, I think the most poignant answer was "to fuck with foreigners", which Jim seemed to enjoy.

It actually really started to annoy me, so I googled it and this is what I found:

WAX TIP Eco Bananas are the Better Banana
Better Taste and Health! Better for the environment!

Wax Tip Eco Bananas are grown under an ecoganicTM certified system. An ecologically sensitive farming system that produces a sweeter, creamier, healthier banana with a longer shelf life ... whilst improving the environmental health of our farms, the soil fertility and ultimately the surrounding ecosystem including the adjacent Great Barrier Reef.

The ecoganicTM system dictates that, among other measures, NO insecticides are used for Banana Bell injection; NO nematicides, insecticides or miticides are used on the soil; and minimum fertiliser are used - producing a more natural growing cycle.

Oh my...  After a little sleep, and waking up still in a daze I've come to the realisation that we are witnessing a band that is pretty much untouchable for its live abilities.  To see the guys be consistently brilliant, not only over the course of a 2 hour plus show, but also the entire week has been an absolute thrill.   Just when you think it has reached its peak along comes Touch Me Part 2 >> Cobra >> Run Thru which tipped me right over the edge.  (I especially loved the moving from Touch Me into Cobra with the double 'Scream - OK cool' and funky bass line, and I can now confirm that the chnage into Run Thru does happen at the end of the 2nd part of Cobra).  What a way to end the main set.

Other highlights for me last night:

War Begun.  Great solo at the end of the song by Jim, really kicked this song into another stratosphere.

Bermuda Highway / Look at You -  Jim solo. So glad to see that.  Can now imagine how intimate and spine tingling a Jim solo show would be.  Maybe next tour!!??

Off The Record last night was Off The Record.  Scorching...

Still living the dream for a few days yet!  Not quite sure what I'm gonna do with myself when all this is over.  I getting quite used to ending my day with a MMJ gig...

At my house, we call them uh-ohs.

I am so happy for all you Aussie fans that are experiencing some fantastic Jacket shows. That setlist is amazing. Absolutely, freaking, mind-blowing amazing.

Evelyn, Golden and then War Begun.  :D

I completely agree with you...the ticketing system was fucked. My ticket was on my credit card if that makes sense. It was really stupid. And then they didn't calrify which line you should be in if you had to swipe or scan your physical ticket. OMG! So people who could have walked straight in were lining up for an hour or so. I will not let this go untouched, but i won't go on about it here...

The Forum would have been the best venue ever! It is in fact, the best music venue in Melbourne, and as you said, it has been designed for MMJ. Well maybe for next tour, we have to enforce it!

Yeah the Cobra>>>>>Run Thru jam was something to behold!!!! The show is still sinking in...

Howdy,

I was near the front of the line and we were told there was a delay on getting in (about an hour) as the band were still checking the sound on stage. When we were eventually let in, we just waltzed through with our webtickets - didn't realise there was big issues for those behind us.

As has been said, amazing show - my ears are still ringing crazy - hopefully they'll be back to norm for more Jacket and Neil Young tonight. Bermuda and Touch Me - Cobra were highlights for me. I don't usually go so near the front, but it was great to see Jim's expressions and get a greater appreciation of just how much he enjoys doing what he's doing.

Only negative of the night was the dumbass who thought it was kareoke night and kept spilling his bear and flicking his ash, and after every song yelling at my wife "what will they play next!". Gee, probably what they damn want to, turdface. There's always one...

And love the killer poster - so pleased they did a silkscreen one, and sorry don't know the artist - yet.

Can't believe I've finally seen my favourite band! And tonight my fav artist! Now if only Tom Waits would tour down under.
