I just arrived home, and WOW, what a show, it was the first time i have ever seen MMJ live. Although they played for one hour it was just full on. They got a fantastic reception from the crowd.

Anyway, here is the setlist:

THANK YOU TOO!
IT BEATS 4 U
WORDLESS CHORUS

I do apologise but i could not recognise the song inbetween i'm amazed and thank you too. I have only been a fan for about 12 mnths... i'm sure someone else who went will know.

I will post another review in due course...

Scream Pt. 2 followed by OBH sounds like an awesome finish. Nice to see It Beats 4 U too.

Well it is now due course, i may as well do this review while my adrenaline is still pumping.

It was a beautiful day in Melbourne today, Australia Day, where evryone at the Big Day Out was in a cheerful, and patriotic mood, including myself. My Morning Jacket were on at 5pm on the 'Green Stage', which is one of the smaller stages at the festival!!! The band before them (TV on the Radio) were OKay, but as soon as they had finished i went straight for the front. Unfortunately i could not get a spot on the barrier, it was occupied by Tweens  :o WTF!! But that didn't worry me becuase i had a fantastic view with perfect vision of all four members. I was lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the set when Patrick's drum kit was rolled to the front of the stage, and it was sticky taped to one of hit symbol stands. I found it odd because i was the only one in my area to pick this up. I could make it out except for maybe a few songs. So i knew it was going to be Mahgeeta opening, and i definately saw the last 2; Touch Me pt. 2 and One Big Holiday. I was creeping with excitement....

They came on punctaully at 5pm with a good reception. There were maybe 700+ in the audience (to begin with). They went straight into Mahgeeta, which was fantastic!!!!!! I was happy to see Jim james wearing a t-shirt with the ABORIGINAL FLAG on it  :P I was amazed, that would have to be the first non-austrlian musician to don that shirt before!!! All band members were enjoying it from note 1. Patrick kept doing hand waves from behind the kit which was really cool.

They went through Evil Urges, OTR, and Gideon, which was fantastic! Jim then did a very loud barotone "HEEEELLOOOOOOOO" through the mic which got a lot fo people moving. They went into I'm amazed which everyone in the crowd knew and it was performed extremely well. They did a song after I'm Amazed and i could not quite pick. Please do not write me off as a poser or anything. I am still learning their music!!! But it was a great tune. Jim put his cape on for It Beats 4 U, and that took alot of people by surprise. I think it was before Thank You Too! Jim said; "It feels like we have all melted and gone to heaven, it is so nice here, let's dream as if we are in heaven."

The last three songs, well what can i say!!!! Highly Suspicious, Touch Me pt. 2 and then One Big Holiday. These songs threw the crowd into a frenzy. Especially highly suspicious.... Jim brought out his mini synth for Touch Me Pt.2 which had alot of people on th eback foot. I suppose there were people in the audience who have heard Evil urges but didn't listen all the way thru and hadn't heard the song. And then it brings us to One Big Holiday...I was left with my jaw dropped!!!! They didn't leave any un used energy in this song.

Jim thanked the crowd and wished everyone a fantastic day, and take care of one another. It was quite nice. The crowd reaction was brilliant. No one left the area without wondering what more MMJ could have done. It was a marvellous performance....

Now for tomorrow night at Billboards!!!

Also i took about 50 photos from the show. All very good quality, and i was in a prime spot... I will upload thme within the next few days when my internet becomes a little bit faster.

Love and Respect...Peace Out

Just One Thing! And it was silky sweet!!!!!

Man, this band know how to pick a set list that suits the moment.  It was the perfect fit to a sunny warm afternoon...  Stood back a bit this time to take in the full stage presence.

JOT on a summer afternoon sounds wonderful!

thanks nick and ralph for describing these shows!

it's such a thing to realize that there are outdoor summer concerts going on somewhere in the world while we've got a hailstorm outside.   :)

Elbow

I was there at the back. My first MMJ show. Amazing. I came to see them, Eddy Current Suppression Ring and Shakey. Three of the best performances I'll ever see, still smiling now!!

I don't think I've ever seen a band clearly enjoying themselves as My Morning Jacket. Capes, beards and blinding songs make the world a better place!

nickdavies7

I agree with ya elbow, it was a very exciting experience. it was the first time for me too!
