QuoteAnother Anytime opener--love it.

Still *sort of* on the topic of Red Rocks--was last night their last outdoor show of the tour?

Stubbs in Austin Texas is outside.  Very cool venue.

That was an absolutely killer show last night. I was a bit worried the Black Keys would take some MMJ time away, but we got a 2:45 long show. I am a relative newbie, third show, and only familiar with Okonomo and Evil Urges, which covered 90% of the set list. Still, the ones I hadn't heard before (War Begun?) were mind-blowing. I was also impressed by the size of the crowd MMJ drew, which I would estimate was 85% capacity. Red Rocks weather was perfect and the band was suitably awed to play at the world's greatest venue. MMJ are really hitting their stride. They look like they are having so much fun up there. We were dead center in front of the soundboard and met the keyboard dude's proud parents and his lady in the VIP section behind us.

That's cool to know--I didn't realize the Greek was outdoor, either, and I plain forgot about Philly. I wonder how different the feel of the indoor shows will be compared to the outdoor shows.
Because if there's one thing that goes well with shooting zombies it's a Dolly Parton cover-el chode

Epic show last night.  War Begun Lay Low combo was the highlight - absolutely immense, thought the rocks might starting crumbling down during the peak of Lay Low.  It was huge.

don't forget about Dancefloors - played between Run Thru and OBH.

Nice to see something different from EU as the opener. Portland is an outdoor show. It is a super early start time as well 6:30.

The only beef with Stubbs outdoors is that one, i dont think it is as loud, and 2 they have a curfew, but they usually just start their shows earlier.  Other than that, its an awesome experience.  MMJ there would be epic, but its SOLD OUT.

So last night was surreal for me.

I showed up at Red Rocks around 4:05 and parked in the Upper North Lot and was first in line up there, in fact there was nobody up there. I crack open a beer when all of sudden this white van pulls up next to me and shouts "are you waiting in line for MMJ?" When I said yes they asked if I wanted to go to the "soundcheck party" I was like FUCK YES and they said get in. I asked if I was going to lose my place in line and they said Nope, you'll be in the show!!! Fucking amazing, I guess they were with some radio station and the record label or just dropped down from Heaven. So I get the laminate and me and about 15 people are sitting in the first 5 rows when MMJ comes out. Surreal, they came out and played "Look at You" and then asked for requests. Some people throw out some tunes and they decided to play "Nashville to Kentucky." Then they asked for some more requests and I threw out "Anytime". They were still deciding what to play and people were throwing out more tunes and I said "Cobra." Jim James basically looked at me and starting laughing saying that they weren't going to play that for soundcheck and saying it was too hot out for a song of that magnitude or something to that effect. Then they played "Bermuda Highway
" I think, it was a slower song. Again they asked for some more and I said "Anytime" again, probably because for the last two weeks, no matter what I was doing I was humming that song and it was in my brain, so good ole Carl was like "can we please blast this?" So sure enough they turned it up to 11 and ripped it up. Fucking Awesome. Then they played "I'm Amazed" and that was it. Surreal, nothing like that has ever happened to me and it was so Random.

So then we had to wait at the gate, the ramp entrance next to Ship Rock but we were on the top portion where as everybody else waiting in line was at the bottom. So we got in first and I got 5th row center and got to save spots for about 8 friends. Fucking Awesome.

The Black Keys were great and loving life playing at Red Rocks, for the first time I believe but I could be wrong.

Then MMJ came on and sure enough they opened with "Anytime" and it was such a cool feeling that the song that I have had in my head for about 2 weeks now, and the song that I asked for at the Soundcheck, was now being played for real as the opener. I felt so special, no joke, I felt that it was because of me. And then they played "Cobra" as one of the encores! Fuck Yes! I know I'm fluffing myself but I don't care, everybody has a story like this and this is mine. It was a great night with friends and a dream show.

Thanks My Morning Jacket

What a great story above.  Came from New York yesterday and flew in to Denver mid-afternoon and I must say Red Rocks is now one of my favorite venues to see live music.  It really felt like I was in a painting or something along those lines, with those illuminated rocks, the Denver skyline in the background, and the moon rising as MMJ was hitting their stride.  War Begun, Cobra, and having them open with Anytime made this an epic show.  I'm in the high teens in how many times I've seen the Jacket live and this is definitely near the top.  Went with an old buddy from high school, who had never seen MMJ live before and didn't know them that well, but as we all do, he got caught with the energy that the boys bring every time they play.  Denver is awesome, hell of a show, and now onto a sold-out Stubbs show!!! Life is good!

Great story, BlackMamba.

It was an amazing show. I hate to break it to you but they've been opening with that song at more than a few shows lately. Still, I can't imagine being invited to a sound check party and getting asked for requests. Once in a lifetime for sure.

Can't wait until next time through.

Say friend, you got any more of that good sasparilla?

Don Dante

Mamba, that is amazing.  I honestly thought you were making it up after the first few sentences - unreal!  Lucky punk.

And don't let anyone steal your thunder.  Actually Anytime was only used as an opener one other time this whole year, and that was Louisville, another big time setting.
