QuoteI'm looking at Toast on Market too...sounds good.

My two picks would be Toast on market, or if memory serves me, Ramsi's on the world (in the highlands), used to have a brunch.  You should check when you get in to see if they still do.  It is wonderful mix of foods, at probably the best restaurant in the town.  See you all Sunday!  Into the Woods now!

I hear Bristol's brunch is fantastic and Lynne's Paradise Cafe is hard to beat.

you lucky a-holes.  jim's totally going to melt so much pent up jacket face.  have fun, next time somebody really needs to fly me down for one of these things.  I'll sell my body if I have to or let you use it in whatever way you feel fit.   PM me if interested, I'm clean.  no herpes, no aids, 98.9percent std free.  my body for a ticket and a ride seems reasonable.

I second and third the Lynn's Paradise Cafe suggestion.  The food is wonderful and the word eclectic doesn't even begin to describe the atmosphere.  There is usually a relatively long wait, but the time passes quickly meandering around the gift shop!

Since Ben Sollee has an album coming out in a month or two with Jim as the producer and Jim has his solo album "in the can" I can't wait to hear all about this show.  I would think there may be some new stuff mixed in there for sure but we won't know exactly what it is.  Exciting!  I'll be thinking about you guys, have a blast!

And if I can bid on something of Jim's to help stop mountain top removal, for crying out loud, somebody please call me. :)
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

I think I had a few too many whiskey and waters to be driving last night. I don't know what I was thinking, but I'm glad we all made it home safe and sound.  ;)  I'm looking forward to seeing the setlist as my memory is failing me right now.

Great night! A lot of great people from the local slow food movement. I hope a tape pops up, I have a hunch one will.

What was the general schedule for the night.  How long did Jim play?  Did he play with Daniel Martin Moore at all?

maybe they all had to take an oath of secrecy... or they are speechless because of how epic it was... or they aren't online because they are all hanging out with Jim James in his fortress of solitude... or they are planning a surprise party for us  :)

What a great night!

We stepped into the 21c around 6:30 and walked past a gaggle (think that's the appropriate word) of about 20 looky-loos who appeared to be camped out waiting for Jim.  That was a little surprising.  We heard some screeching later in the evening and could only assume there had been a Jim sighting   ;D

The 21c is a stunner.  Really great contemporary art on the walls and a slick, modern vibe.  Would love to stay here someday!  Reminds me a bit of the Ace Hotels.

We ventured downstairs and it was buzzing with folks.  We settled in as the first speaker, Rebecca Howell, began.  She is a professor at Morehead State and delivered some really lovely prose about her observance of urban Kentuckians' detachment from Appalachian identity, and how that plays into people turning a blind eye to mountaintop removal.

Wendell Berry spoke next and was really inspirational.  I'll be picking up his book, What are People For? as it was mentioned more than once over the course of the evening.

Erik Reece was next and spoke a little bit about the political issues at play in strip mining and mountaintop removal. He joked a bit about the pressure of having to speak in between Wendell Berry and Jim James   ;D

A woman from Kentuckians for the Commonwealth was the final speaker.  She mentioned something about the mountaintop tours they do (perhaps in conjunction with another local group?), touring the areas that have been affected by mountaintop removal.  I believe there's a tour coming up in January, and if anyone is able to go I'd love to hear what it's like.

Daniel Martin Moore went on at 7:30.  I'm not familiar with his stuff but I thought he was pretty good.

Jim joined him on stage around 8 pm.  They covered Sam Cooke's "That's Heaven to Me" and Bill Monroe's "Kentucky Waltz" and then Jim went into his set.  He played until 9 or so, and though I don't remember the complete setlist or the order, these songs were definitely played:

Wonderful
Bermuda Highway
The Right Place
His Master's Voice
Smokin from Shootin
The Way That He Sings
Peace in the Valley

Really glad I got to meet Dylan, Kory, Toby and goose (just goose)  ;)  after the show.  It was nice to put some names with faces!

I have a little video footage of "Peace in the Valley".  I'm going to try to put it up on Facebook later today.
if it falls apart or makes us millionaires
