Quotest aug bars afterward?  :D

At the beach:

Panama Hatties
Sunset Grille
Dunes
Jacks

There are some others at the beach, but these 4 are a good start. 5 minutes from the Amp, tops.

Hatties and Dunes have mid-week specials, usually starting around 10:00-10:30 pm. Not sure which one is on a Tuesday though.

Hatties has a $10.00 for guys and $5.00 for girls, all you can drink solo cup night. Tap beer and basic well drinks.

I'll try and find out where the specials are for Tuesday

would you see who is open late?  looks like this show starts pretty early, but it would be great to know if there will be a place open late after the show.

(while typing this a "run thru" from a show i saw in early 2007 just popped up on the shuffle.  great mix with crowd responses in it.  boy, that was a great night.  thanks for the recording, steely b., wherever you & mrs. steely are!   [smiley=beer.gif] )

All the bars in St. Auggie have to stop serving by 2:00am. Downtown and at the beach. Last call is usually 1:45 - 2:00 and you have to be out by 2:30.

It looks like Panama Hatties might be a good place for post show. They change their specials up, but lately Tuesdays have been quarter beer night from 10:00/10:30 - 1:00. It's just tap beers, and most likely a $5.00 cover.

Panamas has a couple of bars. Upstairs they have one inside with an outdoor deck.Downstairs has a decent size bar and a back room with pool tables/juke box, video games etc.

Jacks and Dunes are about 6-8 blocks south of Panama's. Dunes is a little quieter , and Jacks has an inside and outside bar and a pool. Don't know how late the pool is open though.

Sunset has great food, and is more of a bar/restaurant, with inside and outside tables. It's a 2-3 blocks south of Panama's.

I don't imagine the show will end all that late, and should leave plenty of time for some nice post show drinking, at anyone of these places.

If you're staying at the beach, all are within walking distance to most of the hotels on A1a Beach Road. Real close to the Hampton Inn, Hilton Garden Inn, Best Western, and I think it's still a Super8, and a couple of others.

If anyone needs some more info on St. Auggie, I'll be glad to help out with what I can.

Eric

so far you've geen providing great info and I really appreciate it.  I haven't booked a hotel yet, and I was wondering if you could provide some suggestions based on the following desires.

I'd like to stay in the beach area.  I'd don't want to break the bank for one night at a hotel, but then again I don't want to end up in some sketchy beach hotel where I have to worry about being robbed, raped, and ravaged by a crazy beach hobo.
In your opinion, what are the decent beach hotels there which are also close(ish) to the venue.  Thanks brother.
Your helpful advice earns you a brew of your choice :)

Haldon,

I'd say anything on A1a Beach Blvd is going to be fine. I can't speak to the quality of them all, just the locations,as I've only stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn, and Best Western Seaside Inn.

There aren't really any sketchy parts of St. Auggie Beach, but I'd say the Super 8 would be as sketchy as it gets there.

If you look at a map, you'll see A1a and A1a Beach Blvd split on the southern end. A1a Beach is about a 2-3 mile stretch before it curves around to meet A1a again.

The southern part of A1a Beach is more of a  residential area, and the northern part closer to bars, restaurant, shops, etc. Anywhere on A1a Beach is no more than 10 minutes to the Amp.

My daughter's place is about in the middle and she bikes it there. Her place is only 2.5 miles from the Amp, so I'd say even the southern most hotels are less than 5 miles away.

The Hilton Garden, Hampton Inn, Best Western, and that Super 8 are on the Northern side. The Holiday Inn and Comfort Inn are more on the Southern end.

If I had to pick  and you can spend around $100.00 for the night, I'd go with the Hilton Garden Inn, then the Best Western.

I don't think you'll have any trouble finding a room at the beach, even the day of. If you get there during the afternoon, you can cruise up and down A1a Beach and check some of them out. You might even get a better deal. If they're not sold out, they might barter a bit.

If you have a few minutes go to www.hotels.com and search St. Augustine Beach. It'll give you an idea of prices, and photos, as well as a map. On a map the Amp is only a mile or two from the Northern part of A1a Beach where the big curve is.

Hope this helps, and sorry for the long-winded reply.

So now that the tour has officially begun and we are less than a week away.

I'm so fucking pumped I'm pouring PUMPOSITY out of my veins!

Lets get some solid plans made for a pre/post show meet up.  As I'm not familiar with the St. Augustine area, I'll go wherever folks say is the best suggestion.  This will be my first MMJ concert where I'm going alone, so I'm def looking forward to meeting up with some peeps and having a good time.

I look forward to seeing you all.

Lets get some solid plans made for a pre/post show meet up.

I'll throw some places out there and leave it up to the majority.

Post show I'd have to go with Panama Hatties on A1a Beach Blvd. Open late with inside/outside bar, ouside deck upstairs, specials, and right across the street from the beach.

Pre show it depends on what you're looking for.

Food/drinks - I'd go with Sunset Grille, also on A1a Beach. Inside/outside, ocean breezes, great food, not real big, but I think it's big enough for a meetup.

Just drinks - Panamas or Jacks. Jacks is also on A1a Beach, inside/outside, pool, ocean breezes.

All three are pretty much the same distance to the Amp. Jacks is about 8 blocks further south.

I'll most likely be at Sunset pre-show,  ( I gotta eat there a couple of times per visit) and post at Panamas, but I'll go with the flow.

I think the Amp has a curfew and should leave a good amout of time to post party. These bars and others are close enough for a pub crawl if anyone is up for that, or if one place  isn't working out, we could move to another.

Looking forward to the show and meeting some fans too.

I'll my likely be sporting a Jerry Garcia tee that my daughter got for me at Roo, and has been my show shirt of late.

See you there 8-)

Hello All

Heading down from Calgary, AB Canada to Florida next week visiting the Folks, heading up from the Port Charlotte area to St. Augustine for the MMJ show, posting on here for the following 3 reasons;

> have 1 extra ticket for the show in the Orchestra Pit GA that i am looking to get rid of, face value or interesting trades welcome :)

> looking on tips for good bars/food joints/breweries or brewpubs on the east coast of FLA to hit up on the drive up there Monday, as well as specific beaches or towns to stop in

> looking for some mildly sane - borderline crazy people to hook up  with pre-show for some beers and such, as well as suggestions on places to crash/drink after the show, or parties going on that will be welcoming to a friendly canuck on a solo mission

will bring maple syrup & back bacon to perspective new friends

if anyone has any relevant info on any of the above that would be greatly appreciated, i will be checking in on this daily as well i can be reached at

stephenphipps2@gmail.com

thanks all

ericm

Thought I'd throw this out there after the discussions about shorter shows due to curfew.

St. Auggie Amp has a 10:30 PM curfew as mandated in their lease by Florida law. :-?

Good thing the start time is 7:00 PM.

"Where's Jim going?"

Haldon

Yeah, I had been noticing the early curfew time a few months ago.  I'm sure the set list which will be shorter than we'd like, but its just something which I've told myself that I will accept.  Short MMJ is better than no MMJ.

Also, have we decided what we're gonna do pre-show?  SUNSET GRILLE??  I'd def like to meet up at some point before the show with some folks.
And did anyone throw out a time for the meet up?
