Here's one with some nice photos:

""I couldn't have imagined Jim fitting in any better with the guys at Preservation Hall. Jim's like our long lost cousin coming home for the first time," Preservation Hall Jazz Band's leader Ben Jaffe said about recording with James. So their kickoff show was kind of like a (second) family reunion"

Editing in the added ones here too:
Relix one

Spin one
http://www.spin.com/articles/my-morning-jacket-open-tour-alabama
"My Morning Jacket have a reputation as one of the best live bands around, and their tour kickoff Tuesday night at the Alabama Theater in Birmingham showed why"

"If you can attend one of the upcoming dates on this tour and not find yourself dancing infectiously at least once (if not more), then there's something wrong with your heart and soul."

Not review, but show related:

"The tour is just the beginning or their revival, as Hallahan said they'll probably start working on a new album this summer. They want to be free from a time frame, so when it's done, it's done, he said. For now, the tour is their focus"

http://www.nola.com/jazzfest/index.ssf/2010/04/my_morning_jacket_earned_its_r.html
"From the outset, leader Jim James demonstrated what it means to be a guitar god in the post-hair metal era, navigating the thrilling swells of "One Big Holiday" by playing his instrument instead of merely humping it"

And a short mention here:
http://www.usatoday.com/life/music/news/2010-04-25-jazz-fest-new-orleans_N.htm
"My Morning Jacket's ethereal/anthemic sound sometimes seems designed to be performed in cathedrals or opera houses, but if proved equally potent on an outdoor stage. James' angelic falsetto played off the powerful crunch of his bandmate's guitars and rhythm section on standouts like Mahgeetah  and Thank You Too"

""Music has ripped the painting off the walls," My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James said at one point in the evening, marveling at the opportunity to play the venue with the eight-member jazz ensemble that calls it home (and is currently touring with the band)"

"I have seen Jim James bring rain to Bonnaroo when Tennessee needed it, and now I've seen him bring sun to Jazz Fest when New Orleans needed it. A powerful, moving performance by the Jacket, they touched on all facets of their catalog including Curtis Mayfield's "Move On Up" to close the set"

Interference - The Jacket is back at it
http://www.interference.com/13105-the-jacket-are-back-at-it/
Seeing the Jacket's many gifts, the Nashville faithful bore witness to the sheer ingenuity of a band that can surf seemingly oppositional genres to create a seamlessly unified wave of wondrous get-down.

"Jim James entertains. Whether he's sweeping his cape over the crowd or pulling toy guns from the twin holsters at his hips, there's always something fun to look at on stage during a My Morning Jacket show. The band, who must single-handedly keep the folks making smoke-machine-juice in business, straddle the divide between concert and production. Fortunately, there's some fine musicianship behind the borderline contrived theatrics, and MMJ delivers one hell of a rocking show"

Concert review: My Morning Jacket at Merriweather Post Pavilion

"The band, formed in Louisville, Ky., in the late '90s, expertly meshed high culture and deep roots with rock and roll's animal instincts"

"Gideon not only showed the group can still make fresh its biggest hits but offered evidence that Patrick Hallahan is one of the best drummers in rock music today"

Concert review: My Morning Jacket at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre (Daily Loaf blog)
http://blogs.creativeloafing.com/dailyloaf/2010/05/03/concert-review-my-morning-jacket-at-the-st-augustine-amphitheatre-with-setlist/
"one of the most entertaining and generally consistent bands I've had the pleasure of seeing live. As they continue to develop and grow in popularity, I'm certain they'll keep delivering shows like the one this evening; and that fans will continue to make cross-state treks to see them wherever they headline"

"Sporting a gun holster with a toy revolver and a Nintendo Duck Hunt  gun inside, Jim showed off his slinging capabilities during "What A Wonderful Man" and "Touch Me Pt. 2." "Wordless Chorus" further displayed James' playful nature with the singer donning a cap and joyfully posing as a superhero. Remarkably, none of this distracts the rest of the musicians in the group. Bo Koster, Patrick Hallahan and Tom Blankenship all seemed to be feeding off the vibes James created throughout the night by gradually increasing the intensity of their playing."

the most delicious shot i ever had was called a swedish fish.  it tasted EXACTLY like a red swedish fish.  the bartender laughed when we ordered a 2nd round and said "more girlie shots, comin' right up."  but we didn't care because a) we are girls and b) delicious is delicious.

a swedish fish alcoholic beverage? interesting...  sounds like something delicious rather than girlie.  Poor bartender, drinking his straight whiskey being a man.  Sometimes I wish I could be manly enough to drink whiskey like water.  Is a swedish fish similar to a redheaded slut?

i've never had a redheaded slut, so i can't answer that with any amount of certainty.  that was the one & only time i ever had them, that night.  and it was ages ago.  i'd asked for it at other places & always got the sideways head tilt, like a dog trying to understand what you're saying.  so this may have been a made up name for another shot, aka the bartender fucking with us (maybe his straight whiskey made him do it?).

but it tasted like a red swedish fish dead on.  life is full of wonderful little mysteries.

This is a pretty solid review. It captures the significance of MMJ opening the tour at such an intimate setting... I especially like the following!:

"If you can attend one of the upcoming dates on this tour and not find yourself dancing infectiously at least once (if not more), then there's something wrong with your heart and soul."
