Jimmy's Corner on 44th between 6th and 7th isn't too close to the venue, but cheap beer and a cool jukebox are hard to come by these days.
The wind blew me back, via Chicago, in the middle of the night.

I actually think that At Dawn and Tennessee Fire will not sell out until night of or not at all. 5 nights is a lot of music and probably too much for most casual MMJ fans.

As far as good bars and restaurants near the venue there aren't many. The venue is actually in a crappy part of town for those kind things. But if you are looking for suggestions in other areas of NYC i would be more than happy to help.

I think we all have a warped view of the world, getting all pumped about MMJ to epic levels.    I was so panicked it was going to sell out, but it's probably just the 100 of us on here who were trying at noon on Monday.

How many people bought that aren't active here?   I'd bet not many.... it's a pretty big financial and personal commitment.

I think this is right, but boy they're the top 2 on my list - what a chance to hear stuff live we probably never will again.

The few blocks surrounding the venue are pretty barren but its still NYC. Its only a 10 minute walk/2 minute cab ride from Midtown, there's plenty of places in the area.

GTF mentioned Jimmy's Corner, lovingly referred to as "the last dive bar in Manhattan", which is also right down the street from Virgil's BBQ. I feel silly saying this to someone with a handle like "midwesterner", but it really is some of the best BBQ I've ever had.
Say friend, you got any more of that good sasparilla?

i was going to suggest a cool bar in Hell's Kitchen to just have as a Central Meetup, the same bar each night. For people coming from Penn Station or Port Authority, it's right on the way.

For food, there is a cool New Orleans style place on Restaurant Row (46th St in Times Square) called "Bourbon Street"...5$ hurricanes and half price wings/it looks fancy from the outside, but it's not

You have it spot on, those of us here cannot understand why the rest of the world doesn't grasp the epicness of these shows. But the ability to attend is also not there for everyone, even for the biggest fans. Still, I completely do not get why anyone with a smattering of MMJ appreciation would not want to go to the first two shows. Unbelievable!

GREAT idea to establish a reusable Meetup spot, Penny! By show #5, we'll be regulars.

Looks like the place holds 3000 correct?  That doesn't seem very big to me.  I predict that nights 3, 4 and 5 will sell out within an hour of when they go on sale on Friday.
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

Always willing to try BBQ, hell we just walk outside here cut the head and tail off and put it on a plate.  As far as other bar and food suggestions we will be all over the city during the day.  WOW MMJ and NYC nice....very nice.

As far as not selling out they did play Madison Square Garden for New Year's.  I would think people would buy the 5 day passes so they wouldnt miss Thur, Fri, Sat.  $205 not bad.  I think people who miss the first 2 might miss some great stuff MMJ never dissapoints. 8-)

My Monkey Friend

seriously- yall think this will sell out within an hour on Friday?

H-town doug- i am trying to find some good bbq spots too. i am down the road from you in katy, tx

Of the few times that I have been to Terminal 5, I don't remember much in the area. I remember one time meeting friends at a place called Jakes's??  I thought it was way too expensive and not all that great.  That Bourbon Street place sounds like a good place to meet.  I probably will be coming in on the PATH train anyway which stops at 33rd Street.  That is if I can get tiks for the 1 or 2 nights that I can make it.

Jake's is where most people go before shows, it's on 57th and 10th so it's on your way walking from the subway (columbus circle stop i think) but past the venue walking from times square. there are a bunch of bars towards hells kitchen, back towards times square. Jake's is tiny, that's the problem for a meetup spot.

I can go scout out some places in Hells Kitchen and find a big central meetup spot w/in a 10 min walk to the venue if people think it's a good idea.

I think I've actually been there, and I remember it being a pretty good place to hang and have a drink.  Definitely not fancy.

getting a little ahead here, but i went over that area on google maps and this place looks really promising given the size, location and drink specials (key for people spending their last penny to make it here)..this is w/in a few avenue blocks and has 3 rooms, i bet we could use one of the rooms. it's also around the corner from Applejack Diner (one of the best diners in the history of diners)

Those are pretty good happy hour specials, I doubt you'll find any better.

If anyone else is interested, Saturday I'm doing the Brooklyn Brewery tour before the show.  The brewery is open 12-8 and beers are $4 or 6 for $20.  Tours are free and run at 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5pm.    :)
