Pretend you've never seen MMJ live before and you can only go to one of these two album's nights at Terminal 5?  Which one do you go to and why?

And yes, this is (probably) my situation.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I keep telling my friends who aren't die-hard fans to go to ISM if they want to rock, Z if they want to travel through space, and EU if they want a lil' bit o' everything.

If you are new to MMJ, I would say to check out It Still Moves. Steam Engine, One Big Holiday, I will sing to you, you'll get the jems for sure.

Thanks for the responses so far!

I realize I should have made my question a little clearer...

I'm a big MMJ fan.  I have every release of theirs and have about 10 bootleg recordings.  I've been listening to them a lot since the week Z came out. I am defintely going to the Z and Evil Urges shows.  I can make either At Dawn or It Still Moves- I love both on the actual albums.

On a side note- I had tix to both the RCMH and NYE MSG shows in 08 and had to sell them both :'(.

a lot of ISM songs still get worked into the regular shows.  however i dont believe they played one AD song when i last saw them in april, and most of those songs they rarely if ever play these days.  so i would pick AD just because who knows when you'll have the chance to hear that stuff live again.

full disclosure: AD is (probably) my favorite mmj album anyway

This sums it up...ISM is a wonderful album that will melt your face. With that said...any of these shows is worth seeing...you can't go wrong.

At Dawn is a better album, but It Still Moves makes for a better intro.

I hope they revisit more of their earlier haunting earthy style. If not, I'm bailing on the boys.

I would say ISM. It is just easier for some people to get.

For the MMJ virgins, definitely ISM.  For the purists, AD.

That's a funny response because I don't think I'm a noob since I've listened to them (A LOT!!!) for years, but I still haven't seen them live.  Right now I think I'm going with AD, based on the comment about that stuff not being played too much.  Hopefully I can make both and this thread would have been pointless  ;D.

I have seen a lot of the songs off AD and ISM performed live, and where AD is one of my all-time favorite albums of all-time, the songs on ISM "work" better live, for me.

I agree and I think it's because the ISM songs are rock more and are guitar-centric.

I might lean towards saying AD because more of the songs on there they play less or basically never, and also because I think that show will have more of the best B-Sides/EP songs.

I think ISM is hands down their best album though, and wouldnt miss that if had to pick 1 of the 5 shows. Im sure the covers and B-sides they play at that show will be more than worthy.

It Still Moves was universally acclaimed. I read alot & when Time magazine & Alternative Press magazine were both praising this album I thought WOW! ISM really is their dark side of the moon. Hearing it live in it's whole might make u feel like you're in an opium den but who cares!

TF will be the discovery
At Dawn will be the come up
ISM will be the climax of all 5 nights
Z will be where you float into heaven
EU will let you reflect.
