QuoteI'd be pleased if everyone else is like Mr. Rhino and arrives at these shows at 8:15.

Thanks!

Mr. Rhino is not a person to stand in the crush up front.

It's better that I have my space in the back.

Ah, I hear you. I am that way myself sometimes, but not for these shows.

McGhees (on 55th between Broadway and 8th)
240 W 55th St
(between Broadway & 8th Ave)
New York, NY 10019
Neighborhood: Midtown West

This is the bar that inspired "How I met your mother" and is right around the corner from Letterman. They have a ton of beers (including Yuengling in case the Goose is making this trip). They have 3 floors and because we'll be there on the earlier side, he'll open it every day for us at 5 and we can have the 2nd floor until whenever and our own bartender. It's pretty big, there are tables up there, full bar, tvs, and we can hang our flags (vespa and bluesky) or do whatever we want (as long as they're not Union Jacks). *Irish Bar

I knew it was a good sign when I started describing the Terminal 5 shows, he said "Oh I know that band, I was at their NYE show, just saw Jim on Fallon with the Roots!"...(bells are going off in my head)...he gave me a tour of the place, and said no deposit needed, also there's no reason for the drink tickets or wristbands or anything, because they have the best happy hour specials in NYC (this is really true)..*cheap food, too..

I mean it's just an option, obviously people will be all over and do whatever. I'll probably hang here for a couple hours before each show because there isn't much over near Terminal 5. I wanna be over there in line by 7:30.

ALady-i'm coming with for Brooklyn Brewery, but i'll be back in time..no way i'm missing front row for beer tastings  :)  :)

Let me know what you guys think. This place was calling to me from Google Maps, and it worked out. But I can check out other places...and really it's all about location/cheap beer/and cheep food. (and our FLAGS, damnit)

Happy Frizziday!

I will probably make my way to that bar one of the two days I am going at least. Thanks for setting this up and I will make sure not to set up a party conflicting yours this time around ;-) I will probably hit a bar before showing up since I am a bit of a ber snob. One of them I am considering is the Pony Bar (www.theponybar.com) which is 45th and 10th. They serve just craft beers and all their beers are $5.00. The catch is that their high octaine beers are served in 8oz. glasses, but anything under 8% is served in a regular pint glass. They do serve food, but I have yet to try it.

There is another bar that one of my message board people (from Inforoo) told me about. I believe it is called Val Halla 9th and 54th. It is closer to T5, but you will be paying more through the teeth for great beer from what I have been told.

That is all I have for now, but I am sure there are some good beer bars near by for those of you who will be in town for the duration of the week.

ALady

Hey Jerzee!   :)

Nice suggestions!  I think there are a number of us beer snobs coming to these shows, so the Pony and/or Valhalla sound like delicious options (you had me at $5 pints)!   ;)

I like the idea of having a "home base" bar, but it might be kind of cool to hit up a couple different places throughout the week just to get a taste of what the city has to offer.  Hmmmm.....

all this sounds great. this is already shaping up to be an epic week of fun in NYC.

I also want to add that they have a 4:20 happy hour (4:20-5:20) All of their beers are $4.00 during that time.

i like all these ideas.
Flew up to NYC this past weekend for a family event.  First time back since the NYE show, and I got goosebumps as I began to think about October.

can't come soon enough.

Penny Lane

yeah it all sounds good to me...i just wanna make sure i'm in line at a good time  :)
but come on...there's nothing sexy about poop. Nothing.  -bbill

tdb810

Yes, all sounds good to me too...though I will surely need to "pace" myself....not a spring chicken anymore and have never done 5 shows in a row like this.

I'm usually totally wiped out after one MMJ show!!  I'm thinking I will need to sleep in a hyperbaric oxygen bed to rejuvenate.... ;D ;D ;D

But a few pints couldn't hurt :D

.... Funny the comment about not being a "spring chicken" anymore ....

.... Aside from Jam Cruise, I think my iron man marathon festival days are most likely behind me ....

So, I think I may be looking at the 5 night Terminal 5 run as my going out in a "blaze of glory" ......

..... Assuming I don't die between nights #3 and #4 ......

mgriff73

I'm not a spring chicken anymore either but for this I will celebrate with you and some Kentucky bourbon.  I will sleep when I get home.

My Morning Coffee

Came home to a mailbox filled with MMJ tix after this weekend...daddy like! :D

A Good Time?  Is that a strip club?  Alsum.
