Louisville has waited eons to see a VHS or Beta show, but the dance-punk up-and-comers won't play Louisville for another month. It looks like they're starting to build momentum for a big hometown show, though.

VHS or Beta is hosting a listening party for its much-anticipated album at 9:30 p.m. Friday at the Main Street Lounge. The party is 21 and older, and it is sans cover.

VHS or Beta's Craig Pfunder and Mark Palgy will DJ along with Cap'n Goodies, a.k.a. My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James. The party also will feature a short film on the making of VHS or Beta's upcoming record, "Bring On The Comets." VHS or Beta will hit the road next week on a U.S. tour to support "Comets," culminating with a Sept. 29 show at Headliners.

"Bring On The Comets" will be released on Aug. 28, but it will be sold at Ear X-tacy starting Friday. The first 150 copies sold there will be autographed.

The making-of-Comets video can be seen on VHS or Beta's website. A couple of tracks from the new record are streaming on the band's MySpace page.

who else in the 'Ville is coming to this?
If you're lucky, MMJ will fill the void you didn't even know you ever had. If you're luckier, you'll get to see them live.

oh no, the cap'n made it happen, that's for sure. and the "making of" film was great. the cd itself is nothing less than fabulous.

i just left early b/c there was this drunk girl who started going through my purse and then got in my face when i politely asked her what the fuck she thought she was doing. i mean, this chick was gone. booze is great, but know your limit, people.

people shouldn't drink on nights when cap'n goodies is supposed to dj.
sometimes people almost end up in prison, while others get rushed to the hosp. with lung complications.  it's like bringing the thunder inside, it's unsafe.
