QuoteWe had a great time at the show last night outside of the guy and girl standing behind us that decided once the encore started that it was more important to talk about dying their hair and what they ate for dinner last night. Twice I had to turn around and ask them to keep it down. The second time I just yelled "I can't hear Jimmy!" lol

I thought the night was as good as it gets... everyone is entitled to their own opinions but the Hacksaws were definitely at last nights show. Which sucks, but what can you do.... just not let it bother your fun I guess... which we didn't.

THANK YOU MMJ FOR A LOVELY EVENING!!!

...and I loved Holly Miranda... and I really wish there weren't so many people talking during her whole set!

The Hacksaws were definitely out. In the first portion of Dondante, the quiet part, you could just hear a TON of chatter coming from the back. God I hate that.

Quote2nd favorite show of the week (behind TF). Oh yeah, and after the show we witnessed a murder at some diner. Like, literally some dude shot and killed some other guy.

seriously?

Yeah for real.
Terrifying Ghosts!  I am so glad you are safe, but sounds absolutely terrifying and sad...

I am thinking of producing another round of Ba-Ba-Bananas Bananas shirts...this time I will be using Cafe Press instead of the hand made iron shirts.  I will let you all know once I get it together (next weekend is most likely)....

Out of curiosity, where were you standing? This happened to me. The girl even said "they like play so many slow songs" during Where to Begin and then the band came in and shut her up.

Guys, I am not a troll. These are just my opinions. I LOVED the first 3 shows, but like others have stated....This show was lackluster compared to the other shows this week. Dondante was boring, I'm sorry but it was.

Evil Urges will make up for it, I'm sure of that.

I only saw ISM and Z... Personally, I liked Z better.  That is probably because I was right up against the stage for Z.  Great show nonetheless, and great times!  Love hanging with you guys!

I believe you have just defined the glow stick throwing, post EU, drunk frat boy, wannabbee Jacket fan.

thanks  :)

QuoteSounds like some of you need some thicker skin or maybe check out some other boards and see how insanely "roses and lavender" this place is.

I think Hacksaw's opinion is ridiculous on last night's show.  I thought it was an outstanding performance with insane energy, based on what I was watching on-stage and picking up from the people around me.  "Lay Low" was my personal highlight and I don't see how anyone can say that it wasn't "jammed out."  The interplay between Jim and Carl during the jam was one of the coolest moments for me of either night I've seen (ISM and Z).

I agree that parts of "Dondante" seemed forced.  I thought the very same thing that Hacksaw says when I watched it.  I don't feel like it derailed the show at all and, if anything, the way they brought the jam back into the song and finished it out saved the song from the ills of any "self-indulgent" jamming (which I don't dispute there being).

But the point is, Hacksaw should be able to say what he wants without you all whining about how not everyone was able to go.  Of course not everyone was able to go, and that sucks.  But there's no need to act like the band can do no wrong and any criticism of their performance is tantamount to blasphemy.  Hacksaw, I may disagree with what you say, but I'll defend to the death the right to say it.

Great show, though.  Great fucking show.  Can't wait for tonight.

I was saying this at the show.. I am member of a few different boards.. Phish, DMB, Pearl Jam boards ect.  This place is hands down, filled with the nicest group of people of any of the other boards I belong to.. It is not even close.

To me, it is refreshing to come here because everyone is so positive.  However, there is nothing wrong with constructively discussing the good and not so good parts of this band.  If there is any chance they read these boards, they need to know what their fan base is thinking.  Not everything they do is going to be great, and there is nothing wrong with recognizing this once in a while.

Anyway, for me personally, I loved the shows and I had an amazing time!  I am also real jealous that I am not at the EU show tonight!

Till we meet again guys!

I dig it.  But there are ways to be critical.  And there are ways to be critical in a douche bag way.  I think the latter is unwarranted.

Criticism is necessary occasionally, constructive criticism that is.

jb, I guess I sorta disagree with the part about the band needing to know what it's audience wants.  I think that's bullshit to some degree.

they should appease themselves before they appease us.  that is the only way they'll make great music.  if they're trying to fit into some mold a bunch of internet geeks try to make them fit in, wtf?  it's not practical.  The best thing in my mind is to let them run.  let them do whatever the fuck they want and embrace them.  they're still a working band for sure, lets not deny this fact.  so to come here like a lot of new people have been doing, and just being straight up arrogant pricks about specific songs, when it's subjective, makes things tense and annoying.  because when it comes down to it, not everybody here has the same favorite song and I think that's fairly obvious to everyone.  we all have different tastes, but respect it when a songs flavor doesn't hit us right I think...

What makes this band play great shows and write great songs is partially due to the positivity and collective feel this crowd/forum has.

It's a bummer because everyone here is ultra accepting and a lot of people piss on that respect.  which is unfortunate.

if the music didn't contain spells maybe things would be different.

I hear you to a certain degree...  They should have the freedom to play what ever they want - and since we are the ones going to shows, and buying albums, and posters, and t-shirts and essentially providing them with the finances to keep making music, we have should have the freedom to discuss their music openly and honestly. That doesn't mean with have to be mean spirited about it, but it does mean it is ok to critical from time to time.  And just because we are critical, that doesn't mean we still don't love the band.  We just want them to be the best we know they can be.

As I said before, I have nothing negative to say about this band right now.  I loved the ISM and Z shows, and I had an amazing time!  But at long as the criticism stays constructive people shouldn't be ostracized for having an opinion.

My 2 cents.

Hope everyone had a great time last night!  Wish I was there!

Was only able to make the Z show but WOW, what a fucking great one!  Best Dondante, EVER!!!  And then to hear Chills, Where To Begin, Hit It and Quit It and A Quick One, perfect!!  Brought 2 virgins along (sister and her husband) and they are now totally sold on the band.   Was nice to meet A Lady and her 2 friends while waiting in line for a poster.  Crowd was pretty good, despite the glow sticks.   Glad that everyone had such a blast all week.  BTW, did anyone else get hassled out on the street at all about the posters??  Some drunken asshole kept hounding me half the way up 56th Street to have a look at it.  I finally gave him a glimpse just to shut him up.

I don't know I still thinking going to any musical performance and feeling like your entitled to something is bullshit straight up.  whether you pay for the concert or it's free.  the same argument helped ruined the dave matthews band fanbase.  The band owes you nothing, they never will no matter what they do really.

I'm all for freedom to say what you want but somethings the little kids like hacksaw on here say are nonsense.  I'm being very specific to hacksaw's style of posting.  There is a difference between being critical to be a dick and constructive criticism.  It doesn't take a rocket scientists to understand this.

again being critical assholes is what makes the dave matthews band fanbase suck balls, I know you're from antsmarching.org so I know you know exactly what I'm talking about.  that place is the single worst forum for any band ever created, it's a cesspool of drivel and diatribe about why one person is right and the other person is wrong.  there is no conversation there.  Anytime this place starts to take on that vibe I will stand up to it because again if you feel entitled to something at an mmj show you probably shouldn't be there.

all the criticism I've heard so far is personal bitching with the exception that the bass cut out for It Beats 4 U, I see no reason to complain.  even that is a technical issue the band has nothing to do with really.  It's not like they plan for the sound to be shitty.  so whenever I hear people say "this show sucked, the band sucked tonight because the ___ sound wasn't leveled right".  I kinda laugh to myself about it.  Again it's that whole "I think I'm entitled to this and that because I bought all this shit",  attitude that bothers me.  It's straight up delusion.

they owe us nothing.  not a single fucking thing.

Chode was critical but he still came off as positive and well-intentioned.  People like hacksaw are provocateurs, nothing more.  it's annoying to read and more annoying to argue about.
