QuoteI got to EarXtacy at 9:00 and was 45th in line.  I couldn't believe it.  I got two on the floor.  Saw Flyguy who was further back in line but was able to get tickets.  John Timmons made a point to say that it was only because the band is so great that they were able to do a presale at the store, ticketmaster doesn't allow anywhere but ticketmaster outlets (normally).  I thought that was cool.  I'm looking forward to seeing how many tickets get sold.

i saw you. its creepy that i know who you are ;)
Glad you got your tickets...

I don't know who you ar flyguy, but glad you got your tickets too! to clarify, I know who he is becuase he described himself before the lex opera house show, and i saw him there and then again at ear x tacy.
I was the white thirtysomething dude standing in the hallway waiting for tickets.

I was congratulating you since I had razzed earlier you about sneaking into GA and now you don't have to.

My girlfriend and I will be coming down from Chicago to Louisville for the first time and were hoping that the locals or those familiar with the area could give us some suggestions about where to stay, what to see, etc..

Is downtown a good area to get a hotel and where are good the places to go out?  We are staying for the weekend to enjoy the city so any advice is appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

downtown is a good place to stay. the venue is downtown, first off. it would be cheaper to get a hotel outside of downtown, but i can't think of a hotel in louisville that isnt downtown or 20 minutes outside of downtown. so if location is important, which it should be if you're going out, then stay downtown. there are several hotels downtown. the best stretch of bars in louisville is on baxter avenue. baxter avenue would only be a few dollars in a taxi from downtown. other than bars, the best restaurants and stores in louisville are on baxter avenue/bardstown road (same street, kind of. they turn into eachother). theres about a mile stretch of bardstown road that is all independently owned stores and restaurants (where ear x tacy used to be - RIP old eXt building). this mile stretch is just past the bars, so again a short drive. this area of town is called the highlands - (where jims parents live  :) ) the closest hotels to the highlands are downtown. i hope my rambling and lack of punctuation helps.

in my opinion, a great place to meet would be the monkey wrench or molly malones, both are great bars in the highlands not too far from the venue. there are bars downtown in walking distance of the show tho too. maybe the bar inside the Slugger Stadium. hell i think theres a bar inside the YUM center

Thanks so much for the info. I really know nothing about the area, so your advice is much appreciated.  I will definitely book a Hotel in the downtown area and hit up Baxter Ave for some drinks pre and post show.

Can't wait to check out Louisville!

What do you Louisville guys think the ticket scene outside Yum will be like?

We have ours but was checking for some friends who aren't crazy about what's available on TM.

Should they just get sect 110 on TM, or hope for better outside before the show?

Thanks.

It's anybody's guess but I'd go with the sure thing. We're in section 110 and I'm happy because I'm inside and so is MMJ.IMO there will be NO bad seats inside that arena on that night. ;)
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,

Monkey Wrench is a good spot. What about the new O'shea's on Main St. for a meet up?  It's literally half a block away from the stadium.  I've never been there, so I don't know the pro's or con's of the place.

Northern Neighbour

Can any locals recommend some good diners, BBQ places, and restaurants.  Thanks.

I've been checking in every so often with the "Arena Cam", @ www.arenaauthority.com and that place is looking sweet!!

They just put the bball floor down yesterday, and it looks like just about all the seats are in, except for the first few rows and team benches.

Ohh sounds good! My friend and I drove my Sat night and she asked if it would be done by showtime?? Can't stop progress :)

sometimes you'll see a strange spot in the sky, A human being that was given to fly.

There is a brand new spot called the BBC that just opened right across the street from the new arena and it is solid.  Also, for BBBQ, the Frankfort Ave. Beer Depot in the Highlands is great.  Check out 21C/Proof for a really nice dinner and a badass art gallery.

I'm not going to T5 and it's starting to bum me out reading all the posts about how excited everyone is... so I want to express my excitement for what will possibly the single best show they ever play. With T5 just passing, they'll be all lubed up for a very diverse set list.
