Funny, I can't find a general poster thread.  I just wanted to share my happiness at scoring two Burwell posters for $150.  Not sure of market value, but I think I did well and don't plan to sell 'em.  Christmas is coming early!

The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.

Hey Johnny did you score that one poster on top off of ebay?  I saw it there a couple days ago for Buy it Now for only $45 bucks.  Just wish i had the money at the time cause i know that's a good deal for a Burwell MMJ print.  Where were you able to score the one on the bottom?  There were only like 95 of those made i believe?  I agree with you on the market place.

Yowzers...where/how did you land that Alladin print so cheap? That one has been going for in excess of $400. Nice score, congrats!!

Yeah, I saw the Expresso Beans listing two past sales around $400.  The seller, from California, had it on eBay for a Buy It Now price of $200 originally, but last night it was $120 so I had to snag it.  Its one of a run of only 95.  The other Burwell, also from Portland (is he from there?) in 2008, was $40, so I guess I should have said $160 for both (including shipping).

Regarding the 2005 Portland Burwell, either they didn't know what they had, they needed the money, or the market is softening.  I don't buy posters to resell for profit, and only pick up a few outside of the shows I've attended, but this will be my prized possession.  Now, I just need to figure out how to explain this to my wife. :-[

Nice score Johnny, wow! And yes, Guy lives in Portland.

I know selling your wife on $100+ for a poster will be difficult, but I can tell you that's the best deal on a poster I have ever seen for an MMJ poster on ebay.   Wowza indeed.

I keep a list of where all 95 posters are, and I'm up to 25 or so with this one.   If you wouldn't mind PMing me the # when you get it, that'd be great (if you don't object to sharing that info).

Of course I'll give you the number.  Curious, why is sharing the number publicly an issue for some?  The seller on eBay gave the number in the description.

some peopel don't.  Not sure why.  Maybe when they go to resell they don't want peopel to track how much they got it for?

I have both of these (I am a Portlander after all) and I was given the 2005 poster at the show.  Prior to the show some kid was seriously just handing them out (it was not Guy, I don't know who that lil' angel was).  But mine is not numbered.  Are others numbered?

walterfredo

^yes, they are numbered out of 95.

Kyle, you're hilarious.  I can give you the # of mine if you want it too.

Hmmmm....mine is not numbered.  I did not matte it when framed, it is exposed completely and there is no number.  So since I got it at the show that could mean there are more than 95 out there....
Or?

Hmm, I had you on my list Wizz, but didn't realize some weren't #ed.   I guess there are more than 95!?

I wonder if this is anything like what happened in Portland, Maine in October.  There were two posters.  Both were 18 x 24 silkscreened prints in limited numbers.  A smaller, mass-produced version of the clipper ship poster was passed out to folks on their way out of the State Theatre.  So, I'm curious if there is a difference between the numbered Burwells from Portland, OR 2005 and the ones passed out for free, in terms of size, printing technique, etc.  Hmmm....

Yeah, a bit obsessive of me.   It started when I was trying to track one down- everyone I found that had one, even if they wouldn't sell (YOU, for ex) I would add to the list so at least I knew where they were.

Not everyone got one...he was just wandering around the theater with it.  Kind of funny story that we didn't realize it was free and admired it for sure but put our hands up like, sorry no cash.  We were with a girl from work and she reached for it and the dude then just smiled and walked away.  I promptly looked at her and pleaded my case for the poster.  She gave it to me  ::)
The printing quality of mine is top notch, not like the posters you get at the fillmore.  It has the gold ink and everything.  It has Guy's signature right under the lil' mice and is dated '05.  I think they are extras...I also think I may need to ask Guy in order to get to the bottom of this.

walterfredo

Wiz, it's not entirely uncommon for an artist to have unnumbered prints from a numbered run floating around or available at a different time. Jermaine Rogers comes to mind. Alot of his posters are sold at shows unnumbered and unsigned, and he'll later sell a signed/numbered edition via his website. I suspect all of the Alladin posters were printed at the same time...some given out at the show, numbered ones sold after the show, just a guess though. You could always email Guy and ask if he had any recollection. Is yours signed wiz?

mahg33ta

Here is Guy's take:   (Guy had told me he had one, but I didn't know about the KC or the girlfriend, so that's 2 more for my list  :))

Yes, I was at the show, and I had a small stack of unnumbered promo prints that I was bringing to the club to post on their walls the night of the show, or to give to the office kids, or....something. I had four or five and I think and I gave a few out to people in line for the show. I usually have an overrun like all printers of a few prints with minor or major mistakes. Test prints in the printing process. I use those for taping to walls etc....I have a few of those at the studio, with like hand drawn type on them or bad registration. So I think that kid handing them out was probably me.  I probably grabbed the extras on my way out the door to give out to people. Wouldn't have been more than four or five.  SO THere are more than 95 in the world BUT probably not more than 105. I can tell you that #001 is in Kansas City in the hands of a non-collector type person, and #002 or #003 is at my studio most likely, the only  edition one I have. My girlfriend has one also and if she digs it out I will tell you the number at some later point.

JY, would it be too much for you to explain to me how to post pics?
Y'all got any disco ball back there?
