Just picked up a nasty souround sound 5 disc changer.  Have already bought about 15 dvds, wondering if anyone has any good recommendations.  I hat SciFi and Gladiator type flicks, so please do not recommend anything like that.  This is what I have so far:
Thin Red Line
Leaving Las Vegas
Donnie Darko
Less Than Zero
Sour Grapes
Hamburger Hill
Red Sox World Series video
Some others, so please give me some good ones.  peace.

I tend to like off-beat flicks, so here are a few goodies that come to mind:

Slingblade
Thelma & Luise
Buffalo 66
Shadow of the Vampire

For surround-sound, I suggest you go to the two threads called favourite dvds about music, and favourite music docs (or something like that).  Like, okay.  For real.  You have GOT to get The Last Waltz, and you have GOT to get Festival Express, and you have GOT to get Heartworn Highways.  And hellacious just told me about another early Steve Earle live dvd and when I get home and find out the name, I'll post it here.

I would get The Graduate and Rushmore because they're my two favourite movies.

I'm trying to think of cool sound movies...  I'll think some more...

Oh.  Well.  I mean, you have to get the original Star Wars series.  That would be totally kick ass on surround sound.

corey

I just got Heartown Highways from Netflix this weekend, but I haven't had a chance to see it yet.

As far as other movies go, here are some of my favs:
Bottle Rocket
Rushmore
The Royal Tenenbaums
Edward Scissorhands
The Evil Dead Trilogy
The old Universal Monster movies (Frankenstein, Dracula, etc...)
Pee-Wee's Big Adventure

But if you want something that would kick ass with the new system, you could go with the Star Wars trilogy or either of the Spider-Man movies. Those are all great and would be EXCELLENT surround sound goodies...

Thanks for all the input!

I think these are the next 5 I will get:
Lebowski -wtf, no mention, or too obvious
The Shining
Sling Blade-love that movie
Is Friday Night Lights worth getting, not really into sports flicks.
Anyone ever heard or seen The last Supper?

Man if you wanna really give that surround sound system play these gems:

Mad Max
The Fast and the Furious

Twister

Lost In Translation
Almost Famous (Fever Dog)
Kalifornia (Shoot the Dog Bri!!)

I kind of like Top Gun.  I generally hate Tom Cruise.  I hate him in this movie.  Everything about it is cheese.  And yet, I still kind of like it.

Maybe it's all the fighter pilot talk.  And the sunglasses.

The_Link

Simply, Top Gun nis shit, so let's not even discuss it anymore, unless you feel like defendiong it to no avail.  Anyways, all great movies.  Almost famous sounds great when the music kciks in.  Hamburger hill is great, and I think an obvious choice would be Saving Private Ryan.  That shit will be fucking intense in surround with the set I have.  Swingers is cool, but not really worthy of deafening sound.  Rushmore has a great soundtrack and will be great when the music comes in.  Thanks for the help, you all have fairly good taste.  I do not like vampire movies though.  That is just plain, well, either really weird or gay.  anyways, time to go look for some good live dvds of the great music of today.  All I have so far is the disc from the Low box set.  Fell asleep to that one!  I love em, but jesus, cannot listen or watch a Low song at 12:30 at night unless you are borderline suicidal.  OK.  Peace.
