Any Kyuss fans in here? I have been really getting into them lately and just wanted to see if anyone else in here has a penchant for the "stoner rock" genre.

If so, I am looking for some similar bands to check out...i have to do something with myself until the next mmj album.

peanut butter puddin surprise

YES.  Love the following:

QOTSA
Fu Manchu
the aforementioned Kyuss

I've only seen QOTSA live and they of course kicked ass.  Lanegan was with them and it blew me away when I realized he's the dude from Screaming Trees, one of my all time favorite bands from back in the day... 8)

QOTSA does put on a great live show. I am actually going to see them in chi-town again this April.
As of now i think Lanegan will be joining them...despite his solo work. I hope so...most of my favorite tunes by them are with him on vocals.

Kyuss, you say? I've got Blues For The Red Sun, Welcome To Sky Valley, and ...And The Circus Leaves Town. Their singer doesn't really do it for me but I like the band. And at times, like near the end of the song Gardenia, I frickin' love the band. WHAT A KICKASS RIFF!! (the part that starts at 5:37, for anyone who has it)

I have to admit to having a bit of a soft spot for bands who play that style of music well. I'd recommend Acid King as another band to check out, or if you want to get really sludgy you can check out Sleep. Their album Dopesmoker is over an hour long and only one track. You get the point - they're on glacial time. That album is an acquired taste though, I warn you. It's sloooooow. It helps to be stoned and/or tired when you listen to it.

Of course, if you want to go straight to the band that was the major influence on every stoner rock band alive, probably even more so than Black Sabbath, look no further than the Melvins. They're more...hmmm...avant garde? than most heavy bands, so they aren't for everyone, but once they get their fangs into you other bands seem kinda lame. I'd recommend Gluey Porch Treatments (1987), Bullhead (1991), and Stoner Witch (1994). If those don't float your boat the rest of their stuff won't either.

Thanks complainer. Garcia's voice was definitely an aquired taste...but now i love it. The melvins...sabbath...all good.
Gardenia is an awesome song. such a tight rythym going on there. i think i can put that one on repeat for a few hours straight.
