Sorry but I think the man deserves a thread of his own here in the MMJ shrine (maybe reinforced by the fact that I just heard a cover of his song "Way Back Then" on Prairie Home Companion on the radio as I sit here tapping away).
SO:  who's seen him, who loves the man like me, what are you favorite tunes by the man, and who thinks he needs a lifetime recognition from the industry?
Sittin' here with me and mine.  All wrapped up in a bottle of wine.

whuuuuut?  $15?!  Woah.

ohmygod they're selling the movie Mannequin for $7.98.  And shipping is pretty cheap, too.

hooray!! :)

I haven't seen John Prine, but I love him.  I love his serious songs, and I love his funny songs.  And I love how both are each.  (Let's Talk Dirty in Hawaiin is a fine example.  Actually, no it isn't.  In Spite of Ourselves is a fine example.)

He's playing at Bonnaroo.  I just may have convinced two people to rent a van and drive up last night.  So I may be seeing him soon.

Damnit, why is he not coming to Canada?

Sweet Revenge is probably my favourite record of his.

whothrewthecake

i saw him once with my parents, when i was about 14. it was one of the sweetest shows i've ever seen. he told funny anecdotes in between songs and then just sang...beautiful. definitely see him live if you have the chance. one of the most underrated greats.

I LOVE Iris Dement.

The man makes you want to drink a beer, and that can't be a bad thing.  With the added bonus that his song "You're Flag Decal Won't Get You Into Heaven Anymore" is just as fucking great now (maybe even moreso) than it was 30 years ago.
it's a voice. and it's a choice
to call you out. or stay at home

That so true! I actually e-mailed Jim last year to suggest that very tune when they were touring last year before the election. The song is still very relevant in todays policical climate.Didn't get a reply though
