Tons of respect to Plank10 for mentioning Lucero. Madjack is the coolest little lable noone never cared about.

Playing right now, at this very moment: Lucinda Williams (the self titled album from 88 ).

also:
Be Good Tanyas.
Clem Snide.
The Anomoanon.
Uncle Tupelo (always)
Dwight, Hank, Buck, Merle .. you get it.

and loads of other stuff of course.

plank10

Madjack is great. From what I hear the next Lucero album will be on a different label though. The guys in Lucero are Jacket fans and would love to open for them.

damn, not to repeat myself...

I bought `Lifted or The story is in the soil, keep your ears to the ground´ by Bright Eyes a few days ago. It totally blew my mind. I haven´t been able to listen to it without crying. God, it`s amazing. I have to admit I was feeling really fucked up when I bought, so that helps, but still, it´s extremely heavy. I love it so much. His lyrics are the best I ever heard, his screaming is just sending cold shivers all through my body. I gotta have everything he ever made. I can´t believe it. Goddamn!

marktwain, the new Fruitbats album is good...  But I'm afraid Echolocation just proved too hard to top...

I'm still playing Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and Being There on a semi-daily basis
The new Yo La Tengo album is getting some play
Richard Buckner and The Hill still put me to sleep everynight
Mercury Rev -- All is Dream
Best of Otis Redding
Marvin Gaye -- What's Going On
Townes Van Zandt -- Roadsongs

O:
Indeed you must buy all things Bright Eyes. His first full length is amazing. Its sounds alot different because he used to be much heavier with the reverb. They did a great tour earlier this year with a 15 (i think) piece orchestra.

Boy, I´ve been reading about Bright Eyes and I had the plan to go buy everything he ever made, but that´s a LOT. Bright Eyes has three albums, a huge amount of EPs, then he has this band called Desaparicidos and he used to be in a band called Commander Venus. Could someone give me some tips to start with? The highlights? Except ofcourse `Lifted´, for that one´s still spinning wildly in my CD-player.

I started with "Fevers and Mirrors".  I enjoyed it because it meshed with a transitional time in my life.

But then last year I went to a Bright Eyes show and was thoroughly repulsed.  A young (21), aloof, and pretentious waif (Mr. Oberest) was crooning drunkenly in my rock n'roll club (supported by an 8 member all-female band) to a crowd of adolescent girls and their mothers!

My wondering eyes could not believe it, but I actually saw a bra fly onto the stage.

I was pretty put off by the whole affair.

Just my two cents.

Tooth:
You must have just hit a bad show. I've seen them afew times and never seen anything like that.

O:
I honestly like it all. Fevers and Mirrors and Lifting.. are my favorites. the EPs have lots of good stuff on them too.

Yeah - I saw Desaparecidos last year, and they rocked! They were actually getting heckled - kids calling him gay. Connor then took a water bottle with the lid off, started shaking it so the water was shooting out a bit at a time, and said, "C'mon. C'mon man. I'll (ejaculate) in your eye!" Maybe I have a juvenile sense of humor, but I laughed my ass off! And he hung out at one of my favorite bars before the show and was "freaking out" listening to the Smiths on the ol' jukebox. A friend of the Smiths is a friend of mine! Oh yeah - I've been listening to Fevers and Mirrors too. The new Supergrass is damn good too! Keepin it real with Bjork. Kickin out the jams with the MC5 and the New York Dolls. And bein' a lil' emo with Ant (from Hefner) "Floating On The Breeze." ooooooh. Red House Painters have an album coming out this year, as does front  man, Mark Kozelek!!! TWO good to be true!!!:D
You came around when I needed you, now I'm up to my neck in you.

I've seen Bright Eyes once, and though they (he) was pretty darn good ... and I had hardly listened to any of the albums before I went.

By the way, just came came back from a Lucinda Williams show here in Stockholm and while I think she's great (and it was pretty good), she should lay off some of the "bluesy" stuff and just be a country singer. I want violins. I want "Crescent City", "Lafayette" and "Louisiana Man". I want "Six Blocks Away", "Passionate Kisses" and "The Night's Too Long". I'd even take the "Happy Woman Blues" version of "I Lost It" over the one from "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road". Still, the lady can SING!

CC

hey pinte,
you familiair with a band called Homeland? they're from sweden... malmo i believe...good stuff

Pinte

Had never heard of them until a week ago when they opened for Richard Buckner in Stockholm. It was pretty good. Haven't heard anything they have recorded though.

Oz

Okay, people, thanks for the advice! Thing is, I´m TOTALLY broke at the moment, so I won´t be able to follow them, yet, but thanks anyway!  :)

I forgot to mention that Sophtware Slump by Grandaddy has been in my CD player since I bought it 6 months ago...

dthomas

Sophtware Slump is a great cd, to bad they are playing the same night as MMJ, I would like to see them also.  The Jacket is gonna get my money and time that night!

Currently playing: MMJ Boulder show and Death Cab.

peanut butter puddin surprise

YES!  The Boulder show is amazing!

Yeah, I love the break in Evelyn Is Not Real...  When after some jackass yells Cobra for the 20th time some chick comes in: "Hey! Say it don't spray it!"

Hillarious.

I love listening to that spot in the live shows.  You can see them all up there; hair down and motionless, the crowd gets restless, you can see the faces of the people who are new to mmj wondering what the hell is going on... Then here comes Jim again, with impeccable timing...
