Interesting that someone should mention "Court and Spark", as there is actually a band named after that album (I guess that's where they got the name anyway).

The Court and Spark is from San Francisco and I haven't been able to listen much to them, but "National Lights" is a fantastic song that I think a lot of people on this board would like. It's downloadable on Audiogalaxy.

QuoteI bought `Lifted or The story is in the soil, keep your ears to the ground´ by Bright Eyes a few days ago. It totally blew my mind.

Oz

Ehm, NY, well, I have debts already, so I guess I'll just wait for Augsut. But thanks for the advice!  :)

Did I post here before without mentioning Freakwater? Think i did. So I'll do it now: Freakwater. With my apologies to Jim James (and Will Oldham), Catherine Ann Irwin is my favorite Louisville musician.

Her solo album from last year is amazing too.

peanut butter puddin surprise

Ouch.  But hey, everyone is entitled to their opinion...

Jim and the boys might be the most important Louisville export since Louisville Slugger or Muhammad Ali, IMHO.

*cough* Peewee Reece  *cough*  *cough*

hipkink

Peewee Reece was from Louisville? That's awesome! I met Maury Wills once... Let's see... Sacramento has the Deftones, 7 Seconds, Tom Hanks, Molly Ringwald, and Papa Roach. I should've just mentioned Tom Hanks and Molly Ringwald. I'm kinda ashamed about the rest. Although the new Deftones record isn't THAT bad.. :-/ The good thing about being a musician in this town is that you don't have to do much to be different than everything else. That said, I'm now listening to -
Gusto - No Evil Star
Smokey Robinson & the Miracles
T. Rex - Electric Warrior (Re-issue)
Bonnie Prince Billy
Bob Dylan - Nashville Skyline
The Tindersticks
The Black Heart Procession - Amore del Tropico
Adorable - Against Perfection
The Pastels - Truckload of Trouble.
Hey! Did you guys notice that I didn't list ANY 80's POP? Finally! uh.... but I listened to New Order's "Substance" yesterday... damn.

You came around when I needed you, now I'm up to my neck in you.

For the moment I'm listening to:

Neil Young: On the beach (to me, his best album)
Stache (belgian group): thee without sin, throw the first stone
The Doors: Without a safety net
Bonnie prince billy: I see a darkness (which is not true, but hey it's a fantastic record)
Loudon Wainwright: History
Tom Waits: Invitation to the blues

But I think I'll start digging those out metallica tunes again, I'm in the mood for some good old speed metal.

Burning Brides, Fall of the Plastic Empire

Led Zeppelin, anything.  I've got a cravin' for all things Led these days.  Gonna run out and get How the West Was Won since it seems so cool...
