Kings of Leon - Youth & Young Manhood

My daughter just bought this 2 days ago and it's been in the player since.  I told her the lead singer sounded like Bon Scott but she didn't know who he was.  Song # 4, Joe's Head is really good.

The day before yesterday I went to the library(where you can also lend cd's) and I brought a surprise along.  Without knowing, and just looking at the cdcover, I took Songs:Ohia (lioness) with me.  When I first heard the song, it sounded very familiar to me.  Then I got it, it's that guy who's singen on the song translation on the split cd my morning jacket/songs: Ohia. I never realised that it was the name of a band.  But James Molina's voice is just wonderfull. Especially the first song, the black crow, is just throatcutting.  Oh, and I also took Beth Orton along.  She's also fantastic.  Wow, the world is full of splendid music and I only have seen 0,5 % of it. Great!!!!

I've never really heard much Beth Orton, but there's a live duet floating around w/ her and Beck doing the Stones' 'No expectations.'  It's really amazing - check it out if you can (I found it on Kazaa - which I don't think violates any copyright law since it is not commercially available).  But if you dig that song you should also check out the Jacket doing 'Easy' (commodores)/No Expectations - live, 4/16/2000 - John's got it on his server.

While I'm waiting for It Still Moves, I'm listening to:

Doug (Built to Spill) Martsch - Now You Know
Jeff (Neutral Milk Hotel) Mangum - Live at Jittery Joe's
Bill Monroe & Doc Watson - duets (Smithsonian Folkways)

Anybody heard the new Neil Young yet? I'm curious

I just got Central reservation from the library. And it's a great album, especially the first song with ben harper on guitar.  I still have to check out the other album's.

Also, Bonnie prince billy is great (and I find it a little familiar to songs:Ohia). If I can give you a hint: I see a darkness is a masterpiece.  Check also palace music and the palace brothers, both formal connections of will oldham alias bonnie prince billy. Especially the album lost blues and other songs( kind of a best of) is worth listening at.

Not sure if many people on here are into this but

Atmosphere - Seven's Travels comes out on 9/23 so while you're buying It Still Moves you should pick this up. The best hip-hop i've heard in years. www.rhymesayers.com They just turned down all the majors and signed a distro deal with Epitaph.

fakeplasticspivey

oh yeah, and Augie March...

Does anyone else know this band??  They are from Australia, and if you can track down either of their albums ("Sunset Studies" or "Strange Bird") they are DEFINATELY worth picking up.
Augie March and MMJ are the two up-and-coming bands that I plug as much as possible because I am really passionate about their music.  Please, if you see one of their albums do yourself a favor and pick it up!!  Because I want someone to talk about them with.  :)
