QuoteScreaming Trees-there's a name I haven't heard in a while...they were totally the bomb back in the days of yore...

Uncle Anethesia also rocks..."

Played 'UA' a few times recently - not a patch on 'Dust'   ( but that's just the opinion of a large hairy Geordie who has just noticed that its turned very sunny outside, and whose team is in the semi-final of the UEFA cup on Thursday, and is very happy with the world at this minute in time.  Thanks for asking )

Hello kids,
I'm back.
Check this for a catalogue of disasters:
I was supposed to go to Franz Ferdinand on Friday night, but my friend lost our tickets and only realised it 1 hour before the show. Which was two late for me to change my mind about the pair of freebies that had been offered to me that morning.
Then on Monday I went to Brussels on Monday to see the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and my uncle died while I was at the gig.

But it was an amazing gig. Karen O is mesmerising. And Brian (drummer) hung out with us afterwards. Me and him had a great chat about music and shared a few beers. So that was nice.

Anyway. There you go.

wordawg

Sounds good.
How's the doorbell?

Joh  Frusciante has released acoustic version of all the tracks on Shadows Collide with People that you can download off of http://johnfrusciante.com.

Go get them now

wordawg

Thanks for that.  Never heard anything by him.  What would you recommend to start with?

Hey, Plank, thanks a lot! I always liked his just-voice-and-guitar stuff better than the full production of 'Shadows collide with people'.I'm downloading it now...

Greggy - first of all, you have heard him, 'cuz he's the guitar player of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and their new pop style is totally invented by him, but his solo work is far better than RHCP. To start with him, I advice 'Niandra LaDes and usually just a t-shirt'. That's rather heavy listening, though (he was on all kinds of drugs when he recorded it), so if you wanna start off with a lighter album, I suggest 'To record only water for ten days'.

Tell you who I love listening to is Guided By Voices....However, the have officially announced that they are breaking up after the new album comes out and then go on their last tour. A real loss for us GBV fans.  Sounds like Pollard is going to keep writing and producing and perhaps touring solo. Those guys could rock on stage.  Drink a Miller Lite and give cheers to a one of kind band.

I just recently got into GBV. I bought the compilation (Human Amusements at hourly rates) and I still can't get over how consistently excellent the 32 tracks are. I feel like there's so much to catch up on - can you reccommend one or two albums to start with?

peanut butter puddin surprise

Hey, if you're up for some GBV I highly recommend:

-Alien Lanes
-Under the Bushes, Under the Stars
-Isolation Drills
-Do the Collapse
-Bee Thousand

Yeah, that outta cover it!  ;)

'Niandra' is fantastic but is definately not easy listening. I'd recommend downloading some of these acoustic tracks. They show off his stripped down sound really well. The more recent albums are layed with alot of vocal and instrumental tracks so they sound very different.

Thanks John. Jesus, I love the names even .... Do the Collapse...! Fantastic.

I'm listening to the new Liars album at the moment. It's interesting and has some great moments. They are playing Dublin next Monday so I'm going to go see them.

Is that the index code of a record or something? Or did you mean the hiphop-ensemble D12, with that nasty Eminem in it?

Bob Mould is an amazing talent...go back an listen to some great Husker Du...Warehouse Songs and Stories and New Day rising are incredible and his "acoustic" solo disc Workbook is oustanding. Then throw on the downer Black Sheets of Rain. He covers it all.
