Ok...so what's the BEST show you've ever seen (by any band in any time period).  Here are my top 3:

1) My Morning Jacket - bonnaroo '04 (The oh, so legendary gig)

2) Oysterhead - Asheville '01 (Trey, Stu AND les...damn what a fantastic show.  Even got to shake stuart copeland's hand)

3) Drive By Truckers - The Music Farm, Charleston SC '04 (piss drunk for this show and it couldn't have been any better)

No particular order here.

1)MMJ - Nashville summer '04 - My first MMJ show. I remember it like it was yesterday. Loud, sweaty, rock music, with a few nice solo JJ songs near the end when Patrick damn-near passed out. But then he came back for more rockin'. That, folks, is devotion to your craft.

2) DBT - March '04 House Show in Greenhill - It was a very nice, laid back ,  semi-acoustic DBT show. On a friend of the band's back porch with a trashcan full of PBR and the country air and stars to keep up company.

3) Tenacious D - ATL at the Tabernacle - My first D show. Being at the Tabernacle, it was definitely a religious experience.

That's mine, too.  That was when I met you, Mr. wiggum.  I think it was that day.  That whole weekend was fairly exemplary.

Hm.

My 2nd best show was MMJ in NC in June, but I have seen other shows in my life.  So I'll go with non-MMJ.

- George Jones at Massey Hall.  His band was so blech it was horrible, but George was the shit.

- Toronto Symphony Orchestra (with Saraste as the maestro) playing Beethoven's 9th in either 1994 or 1995.  I've seen it twice there, but the first time blew my head right off.  I was soooo into that.

- Belle and Sebastian at (Kool Haus I think?) in... hm... 2002?  They were brilliant.  They asked the audience if anybody wanted to do karaoke, and they picked a girl and her song was Satisfaction, and it was really good.  Surprisingly so.

- Now, I can't remember who was opening for who or what and when, but there were three bands: Spiritualized, Charlatans and Dandy Warhols that all played at The Guvernment (if it was called that then, it's changed names).  Those were amazing shows.

- Mogwai at the Horseshoe was pretty wicked.  If indeed it was the Horseshoe and not The Rivoli.

Why can't I remember where I've seen these shows?  What the hell?  Man I'm getting old.

Oh concerts.  I love them.

Jellyfish

The Warlocks(Grateful Dead incognito) Hampton 10/08/89 and 10/09/89...crowd energy was off the charts.

MMJ Ziggys in June 05...still wish I had a recording of this show. The Steam Engine opener caught me off guard.

Acoustic Giants = Bela FLeck,Sam Bush,Tony RIce and Ricky Simpkins Martinsville High School(my high school) sometime bettween 94-95...this was the best show I have ever seen...they are some of the best musicians ever assembled in one room.

I liked my first Neil show in 1983..James Madision University,VA..we ate a pizza loaded down with those funny mushrooms right before the show.

John Prine w/ Victoria Williams as the opener,1995 Roanoke VA....both of them blew me away.

Theres 5 that come to my mind.
The fact that my hearts beating
is all the proof you need

aMillionDreams, there is a strange phenomenon that I've heard of where girls like to touch Jim's legs.  I don't think I've ever gone up close enough to the front of the stage to check it out, but if you were up there, right there, did you notice it?

aMillionDreams

there were two girls sitting right next to me but I didn't notice them touching his legs much.  However, every now and then Jim would forget where he/I was and almost trip over me and so I would periodically have to push Jim back towards the mic.  I assure you it wasn't anything sexual, though it was pretty rockin.

The best part of the show was during "One Big Holiday" and watching Jim waiting to rip out his solo, when he stepped on his effects pedal and started his solo he went to the front of the stage and the whole place went crazy.  It was amazing to see what a crowd looks and feels like from the stage.  Amazing.  If anyone has this show please send me a PM ;D

Hmm, maybe it's more of a later phenomenon...

You do know that it's okay to get a little sexed by a rock star, even if you're a boy, right?  ;)

aMillionDreams

yeah, right  ;)

Was anyone else at that show?  It might have been 2002.  I know that Guetig was in the band and they were about to head off on their biggest tour to that point.  Anyone?

I met Shonna's brother at a show in Nashville the night before. He lives close to where I live and his fiance' lived in Greenhill at the time. He told me that they were going to be doing a small show the next night. It was announced on the Yahoo list at the last minute, so it was mostly friends of the band with a couple of fans from the list. Very cool show.

The recording of it is here:

Thanks olwiggum - downloading the show right now!
I met the whole band when I saw them at a show in London a couple of years back. Backstage door wasn't locked, walked right in & there they were. Jason, Shonna & Patterson were real friendly, Brad didn't say much, Mike asked me if I had any weed! They gave me a can of Bud which I still have (empty, of course!) This show is on my Best Of list.

Brad has never said a whole lot when I've been around him, so I'm sure there were no hard feelings on his end.
:) He's the quiet one of the group.

I've never been around Cooley a whole lot, but he's always been cool to me when I've seen him. I've been around Jason, Shonna, and Patterson more than the rest. Patterson shot the shit with a few of us at that house show that night. He told us (it was a secret then) that they were going to record a cover of "Rebel" by Tom Petty the next day that was to be used in an episode of "King of the Hill".
I run into Jason and Shonna around town every once in a while (they live here in the Shoals). They're probably the nicest couple I've ever met.

Thanks...I'm hoping more people share their concert stories eventually.

I met Mike at the charleston show.  He was wasted and talked for like 5 minutes to a few of us.  He even signed my friends' checkbook.

I met the easy b outside of a patterson solo show.  I got him and patterson to sign a poster of mine...it looks sweet.
