Here's the deal. I love hotdogs more than anyone else on this board, even Waxy. Its not even up for debate, sorry, friends.

Anyway, I just made these 3 wonderful dogs. The one furthest away is a straight up american cheese dog (panfried in vegetable oil, nice and slow to keep the texture). I smothered it in spicy brown mustard and steamed the roll. If you wrap your hotdog rolls in a wet paper towel and then microwave them for 20 seconds, you'll find they come out nice and soft and steaming...great texture to compliment the dog.

The dog in the middle is a sauce dog with sweet/hot pickle slices. The sauce was shipped from Arkansas by my brothers' gf. Its a sweet sauce to start, that hits you after you swallow it...packs a nice spice to it. Underneath the sauce is the spicy brown mustard, and on top are shredded bread and butter pickles which have been marinated in a hot pepper/garlic brine so you get the immediate sweet flavor followed by a kick...great hotdog.

The dog nearest to us is a spicy relish made from onions, peppers, and garlic. This was also shipped to me from Arkansas. While its not my favorite, its still damn good. Its a little more on the water/crunchy side, while the middle dog's sauce is a lot "softer." I also added shredded sweet/hot pickles for the extra texture and flavor. Underneath is the ol' standby, the spicy brown mustard.

All three rolls were steamed and served piping hot. I am now officially STUFFED

funny story.. i went camping this past weekend. me and my friends kinda threw this camping idea up at the last minute.. and the spot we camped at was a highly camped campground.. thus there was little to no wood unless we were willing to chop down huge oak trees with my small hatchet

so we got drunk with our 4 bright ass lanterns and pretended it was a fire

later on in the night after everyone else was asleep, me and a buddy grabbed a package of hotdogs and walked down the way in hopes of finding.... you guessed it.. someone else's fire

so here we are, drunk off our asses, trying to quietly roast hot dogs over a random camper's fire who was sleeping MAYBE 10-15ft away.. we cooked the whole pack of 8 hotdogs.

here's a toast to hot dogs

HorkoLad

Nice to see the Hogdog lovers in here...

I took this picture awhile back, this is what my grilled dogs look like. I really dig the toasted (well done) roll.
These dogs are all straight up mustard with sliced dill pickle. The one dog is a cheese dog. The hotdogs I used here are german style hotdogs with the natural casing still on, so they add a bit of a snap when you bite into them. They look burnt, but they aren.t The inside is nice and tender while the outside packs a helluva crispy snap. I haven't had this style of hotdog in quite some time...I miss it.

dude ima go make me one of those

dragonboy

Man, I've gotta have me a hotdog next time I'm in the US.
Hotdogs aren't such a big-deal in the UK & certainly aren't a big-deal here in Japan.
Might have to try & make some myself...

That's hysterical!!  You're from FRANKFURT, and the best hotdog you had was in Toronto?  ha!  :)

The best place to eat a hot dog is at the ballpark.  Any ballpark in any city.  Hot dogs just taste better when you're at a baseball game.

I will eat more hot dogs than anyone on this board!  And anyone who thinks they can get a better hot dog in Toronto than Chicago is not qualified to discuss such a sacred topic... props to whoever started it and my unending admiration for your dedication to the dog and it's toppings...

Wellll, that person is from Frankfurt.  I would imagine that a person from Frankfurt might have been exposed to a deeper hotdog history than even Chicago.

I'm not saying that Toronto has the greatest hotdogs, and to be perfectly honest, I don't even know.  I think the last time I had one was when I was coming out of a club at 3ish when I was 22.  And I don't remember.

Have you ever had a TO hotdog?

hm i have to say that hotdogs aren´t such a big deal in frankfurt! even the sausage is called "Wiener" (Wien=Vienna)
 ;)
i´ve also eaten a hotdog in nyc (i think it was a subway station) but the hotdog in toronto...mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
huge and u had the choice of so many sauces and and and!! :)

I think the hot dog is a decidedly American thing... idea of throwing a bunch of low grade, potentially cancerous processed meats into a mixing pot is what American was founded on!  While I am sure Germany has some excellent meat- I am sticking to my original stance.  Oddly enough, I am originally from a town with German roots named- Frankfort.  There are a few authentic restaurants there and none serve a hot dog.
