Like when K called Walts a f**kwit & Walts smashed a bottle of Coors Lite on his head! ER was real busy that night, K had to wait 4hours ;D

definitely called it first!!! ;D
Warning to anyone even thinking of getting into a fight with aMD, that guy will put you in hosptial!
I'd like to help you all reminisce, but for some reason my memories of this thread are a little foggy! ;)
I went to the Maker's Mark distillery last week. It was really interesting. They have an ambassador program where you get your name on a barrel and they send you gifts and updates on taste tests on your barrel. Then after seven years you can buy two litter bottles from your barrel and you get to hand dip it in the red wax yourself. I went with my brother-in-law, who's in the program, and he let me buy his other liter and dip it. On the way out we had to wait for some cows to cross the road to leave. Good stuff all around.
How cool is that? I probably shouldn't confess this here (what with the boys being from Kentucky & all that) but I've never tried MM.
I've seen some Makers bottles recently that had blue over white wax on them. Anyone know why?
Where's young Tom with his amusing stories of Hoegaarden & pineapple slices and such like?
QuoteI've seen some Makers bottles recently that had blue over white wax on them. Anyone know why?
I've seen those for collector's editions around here but they're always for Uof Kentucky. Do you have a local sports team that's blue and white?
DB, you gotta try MM. But I have to say Woodford Reserve is my favorite, MM #2. I'm doing the WR tour next. They'll actually let you buy a barrel full of whisky (144 liters, i believe). expensive, but you get to choose your own selected single barrel from woodford.

You don't see Maker's Mark here too often but I know a couple of places I might stock it. I'll be on the look out for that & Woodford Reserve...
Basil Haydens is pretty good as well.

They did some Rock The Vote bottles with red, white, and blue wax. I only saw them in two stores and at one of those stores, the only have one bottle. It is now in my possession.

You got some good taste, my man!
I think WR is my favorite bourbon as well, though Eagle Rare usually gives it a run for its money whenever I get a bottle of it. For the most bang for your buck though, I dont think you can beat Eagle Rare. Its usually 10$ or more cheaper than WR
Ive only had MM a few times, and wasnt a huge fan. Maybe expectations? I actually thought it tasted more like Canadian whiskey than bourbon ;D
Buffalo Trace is also very good IMO and is usually only 20$ for your typical sized bottle. (Buffalo Trace is actually the distillery that makes Eagle Rare)

I'm also a fan of Buffalo Trace. I'll have to try Eagle Rare. My two recommendations for "bang for your buck" whiskeys are W.L. Weller and Old Forrester. In fact, half of what goes into a bottle of Woodford Reserve is actually taken from select barrels from the Old Forrester warehouses here in louisville and the other half from the distillery. the rest just becomes regular old Old Forrester.
Early Times falls into the category of "rot gut" for me. :-X
Early Times is my go to guy when I need it (plastic bottle and all). Evan Williams will always be my best bang for your buck.
So I bought my roomie a bottle of Bushmills Black Bush today for his B'day. Now I know Ireland is well Ireland...and I've been to some distilleries there...just not the Bushmills one but someone should have told them (even though it is old) that they might not want to name one of their premium lines
"Black Bush" Just sayin' :-X

Speaking of Willie Nelson, I was at a show tonight and some girl asked me when I saw Willie Nelson. I asked her what she was talking about and she pointed at my shirt. It's a Mastodon shirt that has Rasputin's face on it. Apparently Rasputin and Willie Nelson look the same to teenage girls.

Yes, Early Times is nothing to sip on, but its 1 of my cheapo favorites
That said, Ive never even heard of WLWeller, not sure Ive even seen it around here. I think Ive had Old Forrester, but I might be wrong. I know its in the ET, Evan Williams, etc. price range of bourbon, so I think Ive had it but not positive.
Eagle Rare is def worth a taste though. Runs about the same price as Buffalo Trace. If im feeling rich, I typically get 1 of those 2 or Woodford.

There is a Rasputin brew though
I hated doing speeches for classes, but my favorite 1 I ever did was senior yr European History on Rasputin. I put all kinds of audio movie quotes in the power point from Dumb&Dumber to Fast Times at Ridgemont High to get laughs after I mentioned a factoid. I also included the abhorrent song some group made around 30 yrs ago that went 'rah rah Rasputin, lover of the Russian queen' ;D
Dude was hardcore though. I dont remember how many times he was stabbed/poisoned that night, but that badassery made me want to do my report on him. Little did I know he had orgies in his basement :D

I'm so pissed off I missed this conversation! I thought my nose was itching last night. People are talking about bourbon!
What db, you are not the kind of guy who likes to stack up their empty plastic draft cups to show everyone how much you have had to drink? (Referencing the new thread.)
I also belong to the Makers Mark Ambassadors club. (Surprise!) It's free and anyone can join. They send you cool shit all the time for free.
My friend won't shut up about Buffalo Trace so I guess I'll have to check that out.
And Dave! It's funny you should say that about wearing that thing around my wrist. This is embarrasing but in high school, after we'd finish a bottle of Seagrams V.O., we would wear that gold and black ribbon around our rists. Once the teachers figured it out, they were not pleased. What a dork. I just found a picture of me the other day pulling a huge small mouth bass out of the lake and I had one on my wrist in the picture. ;D

It's Friday. School's out. Time to tie one on. Off to the LQ to to see what lies in store for me this evening.
BH, that's cool you're in the ambassador program. How old is your whisky? If you're planning to make the trip to KY when they bottle your spirits let me know and I can show you my version of da ville.
Picked up some Woodford. I am thinking room temp on ice to "temper" it a little. Freezer too cold? Straight up too strong for me? You know of my limitations amd. ;) Any suggestions?

I keep mine at room temperature and serve it over rocks, sometimes with a splash of water. That's what I'd recommend. It's a great sipping whiskey. I try not to mix it or chase it with anything. Except this time of year I can't help but mix some whiskey and Ciders.

I may not splash because when I temper my Gin on ice I usually let it go for a good 20-30 minutes. We used to drink quite a bit of Dickel mixed with local cider. It was exceptional. I wish we could compare Ciders, because our local is outstanding! Thanks for the input, fatso

You bet your ass I'm going to visit the Ville someday and you and Kory are going to be the first ones I call. I actually only joined the MM ambassadors club about 3-4 months ago so hopefully I will get down there before my Bourbon is ready. I have an urge to see a Jim James solo show, so since he will probably never do one of those in St. Louis, I'm going to do my best to make the next Louisville version.

Almost sweet? I find the 120 to be uber sweet. To me it's more of a dessert beverage, conceptually similar to either a Port or Muscat or something of the sort.
It is tasty but is syrupy and is difficult in quantities even exceeding a bottle, at least for me. Having said that, you knock one back as you would your normal beer and :o :o :o :o

QuoteGettin ready to chow down on some grub, then down some beverages. Not sure what route I want to go tonight. I have a selection of vodkas, gins, rum, some Red Hook IPA, Schlafly Pale Ale, and Guinness. I also I have a couple bottles of red I could dive into. Decisions decisions.
I decided on a bottle of red. A little too sweet, but a large glass in, I'm already felling it
All this damn bourbon talk made me stop off at the store as i was driving past it to get me a bottle of Woodford. Havent had that magical elixir in awhile, and I dont think Ive ever even bought a bottle without splitting it because of how damn expensive it is, but I plan on enjoying that in a couple of hours. Hopefully it lasts more than 3 days ::)
I just moved back to PA, and sadly, they dont have Old Forrester or Buffalo Trace according to the cashier (but do have Eagle Rare somehow). What really perplexes me though is just 2 years ago when I first tried Buffalo Trace, I bought the stuff in State College, PA :-?
So dont feel too bad Ruckus because youre not alone there

Alcohol + PA = sucktacular.
State College?? [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
<------- PSU Alum!
Yep, gradjiated in 2007
Cant wait to see us hopefully beat the poop out of USC!! I got my wish that we didnt have to play Oregon St again, so hopefully USC doesnt embarass us.
PA's alcohol laws are teh suck, but I dont understand why they wouldnt carry those ones (esp since like I said I bought it at PSU in like 06/07).
I even read that in 2007, bourbon sales were through the roof compared to every other liquor - and this is across the country, not PA
They said all the grandchildren must want to drink what theyre granddaddy used to drink back in the day ;D ;D
I'm listening to Blonde on Blonde and drinking a Miller Lite. Ha. I'm having fun though. 8-)
Well, Blonde on Blonde sounds nice, if it was happenings in my basement ;). Miller lite, well, if youre drinking ML, you might as well listen to the best album possible ;D
I knew I shouldnt have bought that Woodford Reserve!! Damn you all!
It just tastes too good. I thought I would quit at 2, but I had to pour a 3rd (a 3rd glass, with 3 shots, perfectly addressed by 2 ice cubes).
Im listening to some Stones greatest hits right now that I just rediscovered I owned.
I think you got me beat with Blonde on Blonde though :-/

It's ok, you are drinking better booze than me. We're even. :D
I lose - I drank the last beer in my fridge last night so I'm stuck with apple. Thankfully I at least had a bottle of Newcastle with my supper tonight. Good times.
Oh, I'm listening to Pavement this evening/morning. Who would have guessed?
I think Im gonna put on Crooked Rain Crooked Rain during these last few Fight Night sessions on PS2 so I really wanna beat the pulp outta the other dude on the video game.
Pavement just seems more fitting than the Stones ;D

You need to give Real Emotional Trash another shot, K.
...but...Blonde on Blonde seems to be the perfect soundtrack to my life right now. Listen to it if you have it. I am, however, wasted. Do what thou wilt. And shit. 8-)
QuoteYou need to give Real Emotional Trash another shot, K.
I think I'm going to. I've gone a little Pavement crazy the past month or so & that certainly won't make me like the record any less.
I saw SM & the Jicks a month or so ago & had a blast. They weren't the best but I stood inches from SM for two hours, so yeah. And Blitzen Trapper were excellent openers.
Im just wondering who created alcohol???
I know all these brilliant people from the Renaissance and shit, but what damn monk in Kazakhstan created alcohol?!

I'd like to say, alcohol nonwithstanding (biggest word I've ever typed, if it's a word), I've been here for a bit, met a couple of folks, this is THE best message board that ever learned to surf (the web). It is. Once You start really meeting people on here, you'll know how great it is. Not to say the peeps I didn't meet arent great. I'm going to buy all of you a shot one day... 8-)

If I had to pick a favorite beer, it'd probably be Celebrator. I love IPAs and dry-hopped ales, but the Germans know how to do it right.
btw, the dogfishead Midas Touch was crazy. It smelled awesome, probably because of the sapphron (sp?), but it bites like wine because of the grapes. Took me about an hour to finish one. It's not for me, but I'm glad I tried it.
i need a drink.
:'(
Drank some Guinness and Tannenzäpfle tonight...nice evening! 8-)
cheers all, this is my first appearance at the new bar here. nice looking place.

Funny you say that
I remember the first time I remember getting drunk.
I was 15 or 16 and my parents were getting ready to finish our basement, so a TV and couch was already down there. I had slyly copied the key to the liquor cabinet and made the wise decision of Jack Daniels. I kept this key inside the instruction liner of NCAA Basketball 2000 with Trajan Langdon on the cover (god I hate Duke!!)
I proceeded by pouring Jack into a coke can and watching From Dusk Til Dawn...I was a lightweight so I know I didnt drank a lot per se, but I got drizzunk!!
I still have the key to that cabinet today, even though they no longer live there. Same with NCAA 2000, and I dont think I ever even played that game. It just brings back wonderful memories :)

QuoteQuoteQuoteQuoteQuoteQuoteI've seen some Makers bottles recently that had blue over white wax on them.
Sadly im stuck drinking Early Times right now ;D ;D :-/ :o :o 8-)
Where can I get my hands on some Buffalo Trace? Haven't seen it anywhere in my neck of the woods and want some now? >:(
I thought it was readily available in almost every state. Maybe ask your local spirit distributor. They can usually tell you if its something the state stores either carry or dont. If they have Eagle Rare there, I dont see how they wouldnt have Buffalo Trace
Its good stuff though :)
Ahh, your language reminds me of what it is like to purchase spirits in PA. I checked and MD does not sell any Buffalo Trace AT ALL. >:( >:( >:(
Not sure if you went to a store to check and see if they had Buffalo Trace or not, but..
Like I said the other night they didnt have it at the state store.
I go to a different state store tonight just because I was in that area. Not only is it much nicer/larger, but apparently the lady says theyll be giving out free sample every day until the end of the holiday season (I might have to make non-purchasing trips for this).
Anyway, they had Buffalo Trace at this one. If I was you, I would go to the largest liquor store in your area and check it out. Chances are theyll have it there I think
BTW, Buffalo Trace won distillery of the year in 2005, 2006, and 2007 from Malt Advocate Magazine and 2 of those years by Whiskey Magazine according to the tag on the bottle I just purchased tonight..Its good stuff :)
The Buffalo Trace website said it doesn't distribute in MD. It could be inaccurate but I haven't seen it anywhere and I do shop (unfortunately) at the largest liquor store (warehouse) near me. Its just too cheap for me to avoid.
Thanks for the heads up though man. Maybe I'll shoot up to PA and steal some from ya [smiley=evil.gif]
I'm on my second tallboy can of Boris (France beer) and will move onto France's #1 beer, Kronenbourg 1664, soon. I have a good old Canadian micro-brew called Amsterdam waiting for me in the fridge. I hope all these beers are good luck to my Raptors in the second half. They are currently down 8 to the Cleveland Cavs.

WHAT, HOW DID YOU GET KRONENBOURG!? Dammit, it's hard to find here in the States, at least in the Midwest. I drank enough last time I was at Disney to create a mini draught in Paris. It damn tasty stuff.

Toronto's a really diverse (and big) city with a million immigrants or more, so we get all kinds of strange and wonderful world brews. Boris is good too. It's not as smooth as 1664 (5.5% may have something to do with it), but its still good and has a unique taste.
Most Canadian Beer Stores (gov't run) and LCBOs (gov't run liquor stores) carry Kronenbourg, but the LCBO doesn't carry bottles, just tallboy cans. The 500ml cans (about the size of a Canadian/European pint - 24oz, not the smaller US pint, 20oz) cost $2.45, which is a bargain. Boris are $2.30 a can.
If you ever make a roadtrip to Ontario, I'm buying you some 1664 along with some nice Canuck micro-brews like Mill Street Tankhouse (dark and hoppy pale ale).

IPA #30. Hop Devil from Victory Brewing, Downingtown, PA. Really pretty good for an $8.99 mix and match six picked up at a local supermarket. High hops, low barley. A little rough on the finish, but who cares when the 6.7% is keeping you on your toes!

Im a big fan of Victory and Hop Devil is 1 of my favorites..
I also recommend their
Prima Pils (maybe my favorite Pilsner that Ive had, and I typically dont even like Pilsner)
Festbier (their Fall seasonal Oktoberfest beer)
Storm King (a stout, but like most of their brews, a different taste to traditional beers of that style)
Hop Wallop (similar to Hop Devil but not quite as hoppy)
....and last but not least, my favorite,
Old Horizontal (not only does it taste fantastic, but its 10.5% alcohol too....mmmm)
Only ones that I dont like, and both of these I find basically undrinkable, are Golden Monkey and the Victory Lager....yuccckk
Wow...went for a flyer because it was only 8.99 for a case, and Ive never seen a Pale Ale that cheap...and hot damn!!! what A buy 8-)

the cupboards are bare up here. did tip back a few pints of newcastle (the cute waitress remembered my drink, huzzah!) last night, though.
I'll probably still be here ::) ;D

time's are quite well, minus the alcohol situation! the mother's coming to visit for christmas, so i'm going to try and wrangle a trip to the liquor store on her wallet while she's here. ;D
oh man walt, i haven't snowmobiled in about a decade. used to love being on a toboggan and getting pulled by a snowmobile(so dangerous in retrospect, but so much fun).
Abita Turbodog
It was alright. I'd get it again.
My parents got me a Winter Brews mix box from World Market and it was the first of the 10 beers that I've tried.
Hobgoblin Dark English Ale
Meh. The initial taste was good but the after taste was something along the lines of old gym socks. Though that taste when away about halfway through the glass.
Breckenridge Vanilla Porter
I still don't care for Porters. I finished it but I wouldn't buy it again at this point.
Hey gitv, I felt the same way about Abita's Turbodog. It wasgood but not something I will seek out. Try Abita'a IPA, it's called Jockamo IPA. Pretty good.
Yesterday, i picked up a 4 pack of Mojo Risin, Dylan probably knows this stuff. It's BBC's double IPA, 11%. A 4 pack of Dogfish Head 90 IPA, 9%. A sixer of Hazed and Infused, (not too strong, but a great brew) and a sixer of Stone IPA ,7.9%, i think.
I haven't tried the Stone yet, but heard it's "as good as it gets". Anyone know?
Oh, also last week i picked up some of Anhor Steam's "Christmas Brew". Very, very good.
a;lkfdahj;ewi. Urthel Quadrium Ale and Johnny Walker (Black Label, neat) (separately). 'Tis the Season!!! :D
Too much. Tonight, the proper response to this thread is too much.
I went to the bar and had quantites of Labatt and Bud Light. Before I went to the bar I was at a family Christmas where I had some boxed wine and Captain Morgan Private Stock.
Tomorrow will be unpleasant.

Damn, Jon. I've probably gotten that exact same order from the LQ before. You got some good taste, my man. Stone IPA is pretty good.
I'd like to hear people's thoughts on Arcadia's IPA. It's my least favorite IPA I've had, but my buddy Paul says it's one of his favorites. :-/
Guinness, duh.
I really wish I can get Rogue here, more. Once in a while sporadic ales show up, but not enough for my needs. Also, I wish I could get some of their Gin.

You had better get a bigger wallet...all of that IPA can put a huge dent in it as I can well attest! ;)

Good beer is worth it! The real waste of money is piss-water like Bud light and the endless list of watered-down American pilsners, IMO.

Yeah, there's something about Aracaida. It's got a twang to it I'm not a fan of, but the DFH 90 is spot on.
btw, I had Great Lakes' Nosferatu. It was damn good, I'll definitely pick it up again sometime.

Gotta say - wasn't much of a fan of any Arcadia, until I went to their brewery in Battle Creek. Granted - everything is tastier on tap at the source.
Yeah, I can agree, there are better IPA's - Stone is close to the top of my list for an all around IPA (not insanely, butt-puckeringly hoppy) - but Arcadia's Scotch Ale is one of my favorites - if not the best, damn close to the best Scotch Ale I've ever had -
The DFH 90 is great - but really wasn't impressed with the 60 or 120.
(wow, been a long time since I posted on here last)
Went to the city and met some new friends. Avery IPA, Boulder, CO. Heavy Seas, Loose Cannon, hop3, 7.25%, Baltimore, MD. Moylan's IIPA, 8.5%, Novato, CA. Hoppin' Frog IIPA, 8.2%, Akron, OH. BBC's Professor Gesser's IPA. Getting to know them should keep me busy for awhile...

Nice. Let me know what you think of Porf. Gesser's. They have it on tap right now and I'm hooked. Hell, let me know about all those, I think I've only had that and the Avery.

The Loose Cannon is solid but as one who lives in B'more, I gotta say most of the beers from Clipper City Brewing doesn't hang with the big boys. I actually enjoy their Small Craft Warning Pils as a nice, easy drinking beer.
Am I allowed to discuss wine and champagne here or is that not cool?
QuoteQuoteQuoteThe Buffalo Trace website said it doesn't distribute in MD. It could be inaccurate but I haven't seen it anywhere and I do shop (unfortunately) at the largest liquor store (warehouse) near me. Its just too cheap for me to avoid.

They sell it at at least 1 store in all of these 10 fine Maryland towns/cities
Huhhhhhhh????? I guess it gives me a no when I punch in my zip. Too frickin far although I'll be in DC for the Caps Bruins game tomorrow night. Hmmm
Thanks for the "Head"z up
Finally found some Buffalo Trace. It will be making the trip up to the NYC for some pregaming festivities tomorrow along with some Abita Pale, WT 101 and a variety of Cavas and Sparkling Wines!!!!
Lakefront, Hazed, Loose Cannon trio treat while watching Breaking Away and lamenting/celebrating my last day of break-freedom. Loose Cannon is the only newbie; it has an interesting grainy undertone that I am not accustomed to that is not necessarily distracting, but is an unusual welcome counter-balance to hoppiness.

I've had a few of their other brews and they were good. Not so easy to find in my area for some reason.
There's a good Japanese site I buy international beer from that has that IPA in stock, might have to pick up a couple.
Drank all my favs in the UK + tried some new Badger Beers that were SO good. Poachers choice, Golden Glory & Golden Champion are truly 3 of the best beers/ales I have ever tasted!

Man, those look good.
Sam Adams Winter Ale, btw
I havent drank any booze in a week, and I feel like thats a major accomplishment.
I throwin back some Early Times tonight
I drank a lovely Christmas ale last night (Bah Humbug! Wychwood Brewery) Wasn't cheap but it was worth it!

Yow cuntry iz funni ;)
Tell me abouts it. I found a site actually based here in Illinois. Have to show proof of age at time of delivery. Didn't have Badger, but they have Youngs and a bunch of other stuff. Me hasta explore. Great, more things to spend money on.

They've got a good selection of UK beers. I love Old Speckled Hen but am cautious to recommenced it because it's in a small bottle (all beers/ales taste better in a 500ml bottle IMO)
Fuller's 1845 is a nice pint, haven't tried their IPA. Young's Old Nick is great too...
you crazy peoples and your metric system :D

Bah Humbug Christmas Ale again for me - I love this stuff! What will I do when it's all gone...
finally tried a few brews from saskatoon's paddock wood brewery this evening - had the 606 pale ale and the 1251, their brand new release. really dug the 1252, but the pale ale was no slouch, either.

Due to the Steeler game, its only 10pm and Im already about 1 sheet to the wind
Drinking some decent Belgian brew interspersed with shots of Early Times...Dinner of Yinzers :D
Best thing about coming home drunk and continuing to drink, mom doesnt care after a Steeler game ;D
but jeez...cant wait to move back out again in a few months, especially since her dog shit diarrhea all over the backseat of my car today..if I wasnt so happy for the game, chaos wouldve ensued >:(
Moylan's Moylander IIPA from Novato, CA, 8.5%. KAPOW from the very beginning without too much sweetness at the finish for a double. Would def. buy again.

Moonshine refers to homemade alcohol, which usually has a very high alcohol content. Hooch is a concoction of already distilled alcohol drinks and fruit. What you got your hands on appears to be "white dog" which is whiskey that hasn't been aged. When I toured Maker's Mark they had us tasted the white dog MM and then the aged MM to show what the aging process does. If you don't like it, you could always throw it in an oakened barrell for 4 to 7 years. ;)
Just had a pint of Hobgoblin & a pint of Fiddler's Elbow!
A week ago my friend and I split a liter of Jim Beam. Well, I say split, but I drank considerably more than just my half. A tip of advice, wandering in unfamiliar areas at night while heavily intoxicated is not hte best idea. You get to talk to the police because you look suspicious and then end up miles from your apartment before you realize you're walking the wrong direction. All in all, it was a good evening. The next day brought forth no headache but I did feel like I was dying. Oddly enough, I want to go swing by the liquor store and get another bottle.

Winter X Games, got the NHL All Star Skillz competition on DVR, recording the Sugar Shane Mosley vs. Antonio Margarito fight as I type, and waiting to watch the Fedor vs. Arlovski MMA match on my computer.

Pint of Caffrey's. Pint of Strongbow. Repeat many times.

Yebisu again for me...I miss Badger Beer :'(
Have a nice pre dinner drink while sausages are grillin buzz going on....still. I time the cooking of the meat with how fast I can drink a pint, without nursing it or chuggin it. Sausages were perfect. Never to much snow or to cold to fire up the grill for me.
Cheap beer, cheap whiskey :'( Trying to save the good stuff for the weekend! ;)

It's pretty fucking good, actually. Beer snobs may put Sam Adams down, but I certainly will not.
Ill never put Sam down either. Out of their 20-25 brews, theres a handful Id wouldnt drink if it and Natty Ice was the only brew available, but everything else I find pretty tasty.
Id probably consider myself a snob for the most part since I usually give people a funny look if Bud, Coors, etc. is their favorite beer, but I think Sam puts out a quality beverages, actually, a lot of quality beverages.
Problem with their variety packs though, is they usually include 1-2 of those ass nasty beer varieties with the good ones.

Cherry Wheat is 1 of my aforementioned disgusting beers from them

Since I finished a brew and wanted a little change of pace, I decided to go for a few swigs of that.
Little did I know, I cut my toenails earlier today - which were about a moneth past due - and put them into the Coke can.

Anyways, its Dogfishead Aprihop and Jagermeister for the PITT game, so this way the night shall end up happily regardless :D
.......and how has this thread been dead for over a month!?
Some Canadian whiskey that was on sale...Im big on bourbon, but candian whiskey can have its moments.
This is treating my inaugural listen of the new Felice Bros. album very nice. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
Nice Double Bock homebrew.........

Looks great S'B!
Went to our local Outback steakhouse tonight. Had a couple of beers & shared a bottle of wine with the Mrs. Just got home & threw a couple of pineapple rings, OJ, Malibu, Banana-Liquor, Southern Comfort & some Cointreau into the blender...my head will hurt tomorrow but f**k it, I'm off for 8days!!!
Cheers everyone [smiley=beer.gif]
Since I'm off tomorrow, I'm about to finish off the last few Kirin in the refrigerator.
Here's to db and his last day off. [smiley=beer.gif]
Cheers man! 3.30 here, a little early but I won't be too far behind you ;)

I just watched that the whole way through & there was no Keyboard Cat @ the end! Very poor K!
From now on I only want to watch clips that have Keyboard Cat @ the end!!! ;)
I don't think DB got/seen the invite. We need to pull off a three country toast (Japan, Canada, and U.S.). I have to go work for a little bit, but I should be back in 3 hours. Hopefully I'll see you both here...with a drink in hand...fucking right!

So a friend and I polished this baby off last night and I have to say it was interesting. It's casked differently than the traditional Macallan line and is definitely sweeter, less full bodied and smoother. I wouldn't call it my type of Scotch because typically I love full bodied, peaty Scotch, but it hit the spot last night.
Looks expensive ;D
Im more of a bourbon drinker than scotch, although scotch aint bad.
I have a nice bottle of Rioja chilling - which I will enjoy after my bike ride.
Having a glass of zinfandel right now, it's a nice one, not too big, not too hot, strong zin flavors though. We opened it last night, and it's still really tasty today, held up really well. It was part of a case of assorted goodies we got delivered the other day. :D

Sorry Walts, did I miss a session? It has been a while! I had a rare day away form my PC yesterday...
Love that ad! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
DB, you ARE the session. So, you didn't miss out. I stopped by with a C.C. & Coke, and nobody was here. It's going to be difficult to make a session happen. I wouldn't say I've grown up or anything, but this whole waking up at 5:15AM is getting old. Once and while I'll think... this time last year I was getting faced with you. Look at me now, it's 9:30AM and I don't have to work, but I'm awake. I should be sleeping until 3PM like the old days. I hate work! I need a different job, maybe in landscaping.
Look at all that venting, and I didn't even crack a Coors Light! 8-) (cool about a Coors Llight, not, it's "cool" that I didn't crack a Coors Light)

Early Times, Pilsner Urquell and Troeg's Sunshine Pils
QuoteEarly Times, Pilsner Urquell and Troeg's Sunshine Pils
Early Times! Noice! We had an EArly Times weekend last week, it was great. Drank most of a bottle around the fire in the backyard and then took the rest into the bar in a flask. My first Early Times experience. Tonight it's New Glarus Black Wheat, roast beef, spinach salad, and morels!

Hawkeye, you need more "Early Times" ;)

I know Ruckus knows what Im talking about (you did get a hold of it, right?!) 8-)
Going to meet up with a buddy for a few drinks. Probably going to BW3's, because we used to go there a lot. Hopefully my girl will be working, but she clearly wants nothing to do with me...alright! Maybe after a few too many drinks, I'll be drunk enough to make an ass out of myself, just to make sure this whole "nothing to do with me" thing is a lock. It's summer, and I usually go with Sunset Wheat. But something about being at BW3's and Sunset Wheat, makes me sneeze. Anyways, stay thirsty my friends!

I only had that SW a few times, and thought it was okay, but if im going that route I usually stick with Blue Moon.
Here's some advice for you to find out if she wants anything to do with you. Once she starts drinking, ask her what she's drinking. Then ask her, "well what tastes better, your (insert drink) or your _____". Its sure to let you know one way or another ;)
L'Abbaye Bon Chien - Swiss - Oak Casked Beer - 14% ABV
Apple cider in color and texture with slight sweetness on the front end followed by a very tart finish.

Ahhh, you guys are startin' early on me! What exactly is in that martini crispy? How you been? Hope things are well.
It's a Manhattan, old boy - you'd like 'em, it's got bourbon. Things are good - just checking in here now and again.
Why the shit did I have to run this marathon. I'd like some tall malty beverages and some other things that make your head go whiiiirl but nooooooo. Damnabit. >:(
QuoteIt's a Manhattan, old boy - you'd like 'em, it's got bourbon. Things are good - just checking in here now and again.
Ahhh a Manhattan. Ironic considering that was the last place I saw you. ;) Maybe I'll change Sunday from Makers/Coke manhattan.
Oh hell, I just looked it up. I have to buy TWO kinds of vermouth? WTF? I better try one at a bar before I invest in that much vermouth.
2 oz blended whiskey
1/2 oz sweet vermouth
1/2 oz dry vermouth
1 dash bitters

Seriously dude, you're not trying to WIN the marathon! I recall being out on Bourbon St. with my training group on the Friday night before the race doing all sorts of things we shouldn't have been. (I'm fairly sure the same thing happened when I ran Honolulu.... :-/)
DRINK A BEER OR THREE!! ;D

Skip the dry vermouth, man - that's a so-called "perfect" manhattan. And none of that "blended whiskey" shit - it takes Kentucky Bourbon. Rare is the bartender that can make one correctly. Here's my recipe:
2 parts bourbon
1 part sweet vermouth
dash bitters
8 ice cubes - shake vigorously
1 cherry

The liquor store's new items that are featured always seem to be great choices, so I went with the one I saw in there today, El Mayor Tequila Blanco....

Johnny Walker Black, neat. Listening to the new Elvis Costello album (quietly, don't want to wake baby!), and it kind of demands whiskey.
nice mood setting, bbill!
to go with my grilled cheese & tomato: an eye of the hawk ale from medocino brewery.

Liters of some kind of ale-ish beer at a bar near here, watching the Raiders. Wife and son out of town, so I had a bit more than I normally would. ;D
What's up Jon. T?! I see you out there.

Uniquely American and yes I shamelessly indulge my self. I love chocolate milk. Never order one in Ireland
I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have the balls to order one in Ireland. In Chicago, however, it was my drink of choice.
sippin on a fine bottle of red.
ahhhh irish car bomb's. I've had them in Ireland. Mostly drank them in college tho (undergrad years) oh college...le sigh.
Whoa, did you sigh in French Soulshine?
Just cracked open a Lagunitas IPA...yum.
I'll cracking open a Samuel Smith Pale Ale in about 20 minutes, just in time for the Husker kickoff.

Started with a Fueller's 1845 and kept going with Boulevard's Bully Porter.......and Wii Bowling with the boy.
Tried the Two Brothers Cane & Ebel (cask drawn) and Southern Tier Cherry Saison with dinner last night. I'd been running errands out in the sunshine all day, so they hit me like a freight train.
Then I had another Cherry Saison. ;D
Yes, I'm drinking, and a lot tonight.

A little CC and Coke tonight...it's 4AM here...this used to be the time for drinks and fellowship...DB! What's up?
I spoke too soon...
Hey Walts, how's it going?
I miss the good old days when me you & K used to put on a album & enjoy a brew or two across international borders & oceans...
...unfortunately it's 10.10am here in the UK, a little early for even me ;)
I knew there was going to time-zone issues, but 10AM? That's why Mark used to tell to be quiet. All things are good on this end. I was actually hoping that K would see us both on and stop in, wishfully thinking, I guess.
How goes it with you? I'm going to find a time that works with both of us...
Things are good thanks. I might be going back to Japan soon so we'll be able to have a drink then.
I've tried some fantastic beers & ales here in the UK, I'll post my thoughts in the beer thead soon...
You still a Dos Equis/Coors Lite man?
I was gonna say, didn't you have to get your favorite beers shipped to Japan? That must be a little bit of a bonus for you. I hope you make back, because...well, a international, border crossing, late night drink is what the world needs. Coors Light was more of a joke between K and I. He clearly didn't like it, therefore I loved it! I'm still a Fat Tire guy, but I'll be honest I haven't brought a case of beer since July.
Gonna call it a night, take care buddy and hopefully you'll be back in the right timezone sooner than later!
Good to chat! Take it easy Walts :)
Later brother!

Yeah, when I first heard this I couldnt believe it. Not only would I never expect M. to sell his music for a commercial, but to shitty beer like Budweiser nonetheless.
QuoteJust picked up a Rogue I haven't tried before. Forgot the name, but it is Dead Guy from a whiskey barrell or something like that.
Is it their Double Dead Guy ale? Im a big fan of Dead Guy, but sampled the Double and didnt like it at all. Too strong of an alcohol taste or something.
If you ever have a chance, try Rogue's Chipotle Ale. You'd never think a beer brewed with Chipotle peppers would be good, but its awesome. Unlike any brew Ive ever had before. Its a seasonal, and I think this is around the time they start brewing/selling it
I had a Viking Hot Chocolate over the weekend - brewed with cocoa and chile. Now that was interesting.
ummmmm waiting for this line up to drop is making me want to drink...i can tell ya that much.

No is was actually called John John Ale. It was delicious, like Dead Guy with more caramel flavor. I agree with you about Double Dead Guy, yikes!
The Chipotle is my second fav Rogue, behind the Smoke Ale. Always grab one of them when I go to the beer store.
I love the shot/beer combo. Tonight it's a Cazadores Reposado and a Lagunitas IPA.

Nah, I just had the one round the other night.
Guinness today, and probably some Jamesons, starting in about two hours... the way this week at work has gone, it could well get pretty messy this evening.

So what did you go with?
I went out tonight, and I totally forgot it was St. Patty's day. Good thing I wore my Oakland A's hat. Of course I ran into the chick from San Fran that wanted to run Oakland down.
But at least she knew who the A's were. 8-)

Tried the Saranac Irish Stout. It was pretty good, went well with the beef and cabbage.
New Belgium's Lips of Faith. It's made with an East Asian berry that is good for your liver and kidney so I feel pretty good about it.
Enjoying an ice cold glass of white wine.
Why is it that I feel compelled to swill adult beverages whilst watching "Intervention"? :-?
3.20am & I'm not going anywhere until this bottle of red is finished...
We finally got Stone Brewing here so I tried a couple of them last night...Vanilla Porter and their Imperial Russian Stout. Mmm. :)

Love is like a dying ember
And only memories remain
And through the ages I'll remember

Someday when we meet up yonder
We'll stroll hand in hand again

One thing I learned a long time ago....never draft a Cub on your fantasy team unless they are named Fergie Jenkins or Ryne Sandberg.
I had...a number of mojitos, and this yummy aged rum/fresh lime juice/demera sugar cocktail, and a rye/pear juice/ginger/simple syrup cocktail...I think that's it.

We went to this fancy mixologist type bar that I'd heard about for years but never quite knew where it was. Turns out I'd been walking right past it for years ;D
I also saw the Budos Band and they were freakin badass! And I go-go danced with a live band and it was great fun.
October might be a bit chilly for ruffles but I'll see what I can do.

BH: My bottle of Makers talked to me this morning too! It feels neglected but we're on for Friday. How do you usually drink your Makers? I usually just drink it with Coke, occasionally on the rocks. Any favorite concoctions, please share! I know more Rum drinks than whiskey drinks, although, in a lot of cases, they can be interchanged, at least according to my unsophisticated palate.
Headdy: That is one sweet CC ad.

I'm almost always just Makers and a splash of diet coke. However, Crispy turned me on to Manhattans so every now and then I will do those but it's a pain in the ass buying the bitters and the vermouth. I could use a few more whiskey ideas myself.

he usually starts out by sipping, then steady gulps, then violent chugs, which causes him to dribble a little of it on his shirt. by the end of the night, there's a sweet spot that appears right over his heart area the size of a golf ball...this happens each time i've seen him drink.

I've witnessed this phenomenon too, it's real! However, I believe the true cause of the wet spot is that so many drinks are coming in such swift succession that there is a nearly constant stream of new condensation available on the cold glasses, which then drips upon BH's shirt as he holds each drink as closely as he possibly can to his mouth.

HAHAHAHAHAhahahahaha! This sounds about right. Usually how I drink it as well. That's if I'm taking it easy. I'll spare you the description of what happens if I drink too much whiskey.
Ruckus, I wish I could sip on whiskey like that but I ruined it for myself at an early age by drinking too much. Haven't been able to stomach it very well ever since. Wish I could. I can choke down/semi-enjoy a really good whiskey on the rocks but only on certain days. :(

Oh, don't get me wrong good sir! If the whiskey is top notch it needs no friends. A single cube is all good whiskey needs. However, a good portion of people I've run across are unable to tell good whiskey from crap. When I'm offered crap whiskey it automatically gets paired with Ginger Ale. Cheers! [smiley=beer.gif]

Even when it's really going good it's only about the size of a grapefruit right where my gut starts sticking out to a point that will catch the drips. Hopefully my increase in mountain biking will help to decrease the size down somewhat.

It will. I am a semi-pro beer drinker and riding once a week is enough to offset my habits. I have lost 20+ lbs since winter and over 2" off my waist. I have thought about riding around STL before, but never have; I should make a trip out this year...
I currently am not drinking. Three more hours.
Oh man that's good to hear. I've lost about 5 since last fall but can't seem to get any more. If I could lose 1" on my waist I'd be elated.
That would be awesome if you visited STL. We would definitely be currently drinking if that happened.

Real men drink it straight out the bottle.

In all serious though, Im a "3 fingers of Eagle Rare/Woodford Reserve/Buffalo Trace and 2 Cubes" kind of guy.
Or im just drinking Canadian Hunter or something worse and shooting it.
I got really sick after a night of drinking some very cheap whiskey when I was in high school and really just the smell of whiskey makes me nauseus to this day.
Really, I don't drink too much hard liquor period. Hence my username. 8-)

ILB this same thing happened to me. I had a very torrid love affair with Jack Daniels for all of about 3 weeks. Drinking a bottle of jack and 10 beers in 2-3 hours (no exaggeration here) when you weigh 145 lbs will make you VERY sick. I don't even have to smell whisky. If I so much as SEE bottle of Jack my stomach starts doing flips. Strangely, I can still tolerate Crown, Jameson, or Maker's...to a degree. Not like I used to back in high school. Maybe this is a good thing. My grandpa struggled with whiskey until he was 30 or so. At least I know I won't have that problem!

Yeah. This is how I look at it as well. I don't really feel like I'm missing anything with all of the good beers out there waiting for me to try! :)
I've got a shipment of New Glarus beer on the way!!!! Woohoo!!! A friend is coming to visit from the Potosi, WI, area. She's bringing 2 bottles of the cherry beer, 2 bottles of the raspberry, and some Spotted Cow, Fat Squirrel, and Organic Revolution! Also bringing some steaks, 10 lbs of brats, and some real Wisconsin cheese curds! Is it 6:00 yet? Cheers to a good weekend!
Sooooo jealous! I won't be able to visit the motherland till the Phish shows next month...

Sweet? I dont think Ive had any whiskey that is sour mash (as JB is) and think it is sweet.
You want sweet, try Wild Turkey American Honey. Yuck.
Speaking of Turkey, got a bottle of the WT Rye whiskey last week. Like that stuff a good bit. Same price as the regular WT but 101 proof.

I like EW more than JB/JD, but if Im spending that much $$ I usually just get Eagle Rare or splurge on Woodford. For every 5 handles of Old Crow, I'll get a 750ml of 1 of those ;D
Better hope I end up going to the Terminal 5 run then so we both can stick out like sore thumbs by drinking a dozen bourbon rocks each night
I could post this in the best songs of 2010 thread, but since were talking whiskey, I'll just throw it up in here
[media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=braQeLkJUvE[/media]
Man, all this talk and that song makes me want to finish that bottle of WT Rye right now
That honey Wild Turkey may be similar to Barenjaeger? That stuff is sweet! Literally tastes like honey, with just a hint of that alcohol burn. I can drink it straight out of the bottle...gets me in trouble, kinda like apple pie or jungle juice. Also not bad for hangovers. You can wake up in the morning, have a bloody mary, a mimosa, and some toast with barenjaeger...hangover gone!

I fear I will shame myself with my whiskey consumption in October. :-[
?
EW is dirt cheap man. I still get glass handles for under $20 here.

Glass handles here are like $25.99 + our ridiculous county alcohol tax coming to around $28+
Not saying its expensive, but Old Crow or Ten High is almost half the price

Enjoying a gin & tonic with some very, very fine 209 gin I picked up at Dean & Deluca in Napa.
Gin & tonic screams summer to me.
If Im not drinking whiskey, G&T's are my go to drink.
Found this gin I really liked a few years ago called Broker's, but they havent sold it for awhile. Damnit.
I accidently wrecked myself on Gin the other night
I'll never forget nonstop Tanqueray and tonics with nuclear nachos in an attic apartment without AC in the summer of '88.

Tanqueray is my second gin of choice, if there's no Plymouth available:
Bombay Sapphire is third:
Never had Plymouth. Looks like I know what Im buying next time Im at the liquor store.
Big fan of Sapphire.
If you like Tanqueray, I recommend this Gin thats only been on the market a couple of years - New Amsterdam. Its a sweeter gin like Tanqueray, but you can usually get a handle for about $20 which I think is the same price or even less than a fifth of Tanqueray. New Amsterdam fifths are actually on sale here for $9 right now as I bought one the other day. Best bang for buck of any liquor AFAIK
I must say, if you can get your hands on No. 209 gin - get some. I endorse it mightily. If I can't find a local shop that sells it - I'll be heading out to Napa to get a few bottles.
Hey, will be going that way for Outside Lands this weekend anyway...problem solved!
Gin o Gin.
Was not aware there were some so many avid gin drinkers around here. Shows how much I know about good, quality, hard liquor. So what do you guys make Gin and Tonics or what? Drink it straight?
I had you all pinned as whiskey drinkers. My friend Lee is a Gin & Tonic.

POP QUIZ HOT SHOTS, you've just checked your wallet and noticed you don't have enough for top shelf, what do you shoot for next?

I need to get educated in this upper class aristocratic style drinking, but at the same time I need to know my options when I feel more bourgeois.
Teach me how to be a bartender.

It was Bombay Sapphire the other night. My roommate made some crazy concoction of gin, oj and an organic juice that I do not remember what it was.

do you do the water bottle full of whiskey for shows? because thats what im planning on for each night of T5.
my recipe:
-buy a bottle of water
-drink some, empty the rest
-slightly smash said bottle
-pour in whiskey of choice
-place in pants pocket least likely for venue to touch (may vary depending on city and state)
-get inside show and enjoy much cheaper booze!

Oh man, I LOVE egg nog, especially with a good bit of bourbon in it. I go through a half gallon a week of the fresh stuff from our local dairy store, Braum's. Manhattans get the season off between now and the end of the year.
Egg nog with the liquor already mixed in. It's delicious and strong as sh*t. My brother introduced me to it and it's a necessary supplement for all holiday functions.
Nice, Crispy. Most people don't appreciate egg nog, but I love it. :)
OMG, Braum's.
nom nom nom nom nom.
Have any of you guys ever made eggnog from scratch? I had a friend in law school who used to bring a thermos of it to our night classes. ;D

they sell it across PA at the state stores then I assume? whats the damage?

Yeah, that's where I got it. Uhhh, about $16.

went to the bar tonight to support friends pretty awesome cover band "sloppy seconds" tonight. first time to a bar in a while. told my friend that if I went inside I'd blow all my money on booze, sure enough I did but that's when the night expanded into greatness. met some dude who was a marine in Iraq, super nice, pay my respects and thanks and whatever, marines are hardcore. anyway, we got blazed as shit on some jack herrier(sp?) I don't give a fuck about words. words fucking suck. I tipped this one bitch fat all night and she sent here friend on recon to seduce me with shots, I declined and she introduced herself. I denied her my dick because that's how life goes. you can't have everything you want. you dudes know what I'm talkin bout right?
fuckin sluts I swear, she was a sweetheart though, I probably would have thrown her a bone. but alas I'm far to wasted. I had a conversation with my mom that was way too drunk of me. whoops. she's watching twilight and I told her she should watch true blood but bet she couldn't handle it because it's too "titillating". I've never said that word to my momsy. Its still pretty hilarious to me. getting plastered until I pass out is my current goal. good night my little sluttie poo's. love me softly, fuck me hardly, and leave my fucking ass alone!
holy fucking dick I'm wasted as fuck. people haven't been getting fucked up enough:

I'll be drinking tonight after I get home from work, which will be in an hour. It's freaking over 40C in Toronto (over 100F) and I'll need the micro-brew Hoptical Illusion IPAs in the fridge after my 25-minute bike ride (mostly uphill).

My house is so badass. It was built in the early '50's, and is 100% awesome. So awesome, in fact, that it has a BUILT-IN bar in the living room. I was slingin some White Russians this weekend in honor of Lebowskifest.
I really don't drink that much anymore. Had some friends over Friday night at my place. Had 3 1/2 glasses of wine and one beer and fell asleep on my couch mid conversation. Moral of the story is I really can't hang anymore lol.

No connection. This brewmaster is responsible for Mill Street Brewery, Flying Monkey (which has Hoptical Illusion and their controversial-named and best IPA, Smash Bomb Atomic) and Duggan's 9, all great micro-brews in Southern Ontario. The only beers from the 3 available in other provinces is Mill Street, which is Toronto-based.

So, we grow grapes amongst other things. These are my grapes as of today. We've hooked up with a local wine maker that we just give him the grapes in exchange for some bottles. the first year's wine was little sweet. We should be getting several bottles from last years grapes soon (1% sugar for those I'm told), and I will be drinking wine from these grapes below this time next year. They are intense. I don't want to wait. dammit

See the college basketball thread. Cheers!
Edit: I just realized, that drink should be called an Orangeman Hattan

....Beautiful day in the Ocean State....Cheers!
Your speaking my language. I had a Jamison and ginger ale the other day. I prefer that over jack and coke these days.
Last man standing. Five of my brothers fell before me. Time for a nightcap. Urp.
Only 2:17 am. We're gettin' old. Guinness, Long Trail, Smuttynose, Geary's, Bud, Flor de Cana rum, oof.

That stuff will make a lot of folks turn in early.

it was some new black label Bud. I had one handed to me and it was definitely the low point of the night's swllin'.
Sidecar, but with bourbon, La Belle Orange, juice from a Cutie as well as lemon, a wee bit of maple syrup, and Fee Bros. orange bitters. So not really very Sidecar-ish, maybe, but I might have a new favorite drink, and I definitely have a thing for oranges lately.

Is your thing for oranges bc of this Cutie who gave you the juice? Inquiring minds want to know? Or am I missing something here?

Sadly, the Cutie referred to above is the brand name for a currently popular variety of wee orange. Hence the posting about drinking on this forum on a Saturday night, which would not have happened had an actual cutie of the female human type been supplying me with juices.

I've got a hot sister-in-law who isn't married. When I say hot, I do mean very good-looking. Too bad she lives in TN. She could use a man like you.

Crispy, that sounds good. I'm putting that shit (orange bitters) in everything these days!
Here's one that really surprised me how good it tastes. This is from Distrito, Chef Jose Garces restaurant here in PHX.
Commodore:
Rinse an Old Fashioned glass with a smoky Mezcal, fill glass with ice
Shake bourbon, lime juice, syrup, w/ice in cocktail shaker
Garnish with thick slice of orange zest, (twist it over the top of the drink to release the oils)
Mmmm, that smells AND tastes good!!! Bourbon and lime go surprisingly well together, I was surprised. The mezcal is key to give it an interesting smokiness. Seems a shame to dump out the mezcal, though.
I'm really into having two different citrus flavors in one drink, its a nice layering effect, but still harmonious.
Another bi-citrus drink, (I'll take credit for this one)
Meyer Lemondrop:
Orange-flavored Absolut
Meyer lemon juice (its gotta be a Meyer, trust me its worth the effort to seek out)
Syrup
Shake over ice, strain into martini glass with sugared rim
