Let's restart this thread with some awesome freakin news
Lips to release a new song every month in 2011 (http://www.spinner.com/2010/12/23/flaming-lips-new-songs/)
yes!!!!!
flips in dallas 2/03!
Dudes, they're my states state band, outstanding! 8)
you can watch the New Years Eve show on rollingstone.com either live or Jan 1....hope this isn't old news ::)
2011 keeps getting better (http://pitchfork.com/news/41305-the-flaming-lips-plan-to-collaborate-with-neon-indian-release-izaireekai-for-mobile-phones/)
Here's how that article reads:
blahblahblahneonindiancollabblahblahblah oooh a box set blah blah blah ZAIREEKA FOR THE PHONE!
Now, if you're like me, you own Zaireeka on CD, yet you don't own more than one CD player. And neither do any of your friends, at least not in a portable format.
So now, we can just plug our phones into portable speakers, most of which we already have, and then listen around the campfire or some awesome variation.
SWEET
the only "problem" is that you have to have 4 cell phones (not hard to find) and four portable speakers!
but, in 2011 F'Lips are giving us 12 new songs, more songs with neon indian, and the cell phone version of zaireeka? 2011 is going to be so good for music.

Well...here's how I"m looking at it:
Odds of having 4 friends with portable CD players: 1:100000000000000000000
Odds of having 4 friends with portable speakers: 1:10000000000000000000
I just looked at the Flaming Lips forum for the first time and they have a pretty solid recording of the NYE 10/11 show.

I've never been interested in getting their bootlegs since the majority of what they do is fairly straight forward. The magic is actually being at the show. That's not to say they suck live or anything.
If you're not a twitterer, Wayne's twitter feed is worth creating a ghost account just to follow. He also posts a lot of boobs.
Also the new song w/ Neon Indian is apparently called "Is David Bowie Dying????"
Honestly, I was never a big fan of theirs til I saw them close out Forecastle festival last summer. It was one of my favorite live shows ever, with the exception of a few special Jacket shows. I'm really hoping to catch them this summer now that I listen to them and whatnot.
Well, if I don't go to Hangout I plan on catchin 'em in Chicago in July. They just added a few more U.S. dates as well as a Spain date.
Anyone have any info on the songs per month going on cause if I remember correctly January is over and no song. ???

All I know is Wayne is twittering about driving around the country and recording with Neon Indian and making songs about David Bowie and acid
I must be missing out on all kinds of info. I'm about to sign up for twitter.

My fair warning - it's both every stupid thing people say it is, and everything it isn't. Depends how you use it. I follow beers, scientists, and musicians mainly.
I do think Wayne is worth joining just to follow by himself.
If you use RSS feeds, twitter isn't really that much different.

This excites me. I've been a casual fan of their music for almost two decades now but have never seen them live before and have been dying to. Here's to hoping that the Hangout set is somewhat representative of their typical shows.

Two things:
1) Everything I've ever read is that their festival performances are the Flaming Lips at their best
2) When I saw them last spring, it might as well have been a festival. Confetti and lasers and balloons were everywhere
I left that show feeling like a better person, revitalized, and 1.4 years younger.
Get close, it'll be worth it. I almost stood in the back to be nearer to the alcohol, but there's always a ton of action on stage.

cool, whered you find this?
edit: that isnt a song.
Email from a friend.
Wayne's Twitter is silent on it, aside from mentioning this track and saying somethinga bout going to flaminglipsfree on YouTube at midnight
Well, this explains it. It's like a mini jumbo zaireeka.
Mini in that it is one song
Jumbo is that each song this year is meant to be played on top of the others with cell phones

Not cool. Hopefully some how Ill be able to obtain it as one giant track later this year.
Jesus these guys are confusing. I don't know what they've released this year, but there's more to come. 3 songs on a hard drive disk encased in a gummie skull and a theatrical production of Yoshimi also featuring songs from the soft bulletin and at war with the mystics.
I just need all their shot to be released digitally cause I can't keep up!!
Anyone else snagging Heady Nuggs the new box set? I was trolling their message board and got no info on their limited special edition one other then that it will only be available on their online store. Unfortunately, it's not posted yet and there is no time as to when it will be available. I have all their music up til' Yoshimi but none on vinyl so I figured this might be a good way to just take the plunge. I was wondering if I should snag the regular box set on RSD or if anyone knew when it would be posted on their online store.
I guess I'll have to peek in there to see if more info has been posted.

Wow, 2nd row for a Lips show! Awesome. That will surely be a spectacle.
Psyched to see them at RR-- have lots of their music but have never seen them live.
New song from the Flips. Hopefully its a joke, Titles great but the lyrics are a little annoying, music is cool, as always.

But I always try to hold off til actual Autumn if I can heh :P Good stuff
But PS, that post just made me listen again, and boy how fantastic 8)

You're right that is one awesome trifecta. I think At War With The Mystics maybe my favorite album by theirs. The W.A.N.D. into Pompeii Am Götterdämmerung is my favorite One-Two punch by them.

yes, thank god
and thank you for posting, those were amazing.
Working at NASA on Acid was particularly awesome.
I liked NASA on Acid a lot, the other one, not so much. theyre supposed to be releasing a 12" with these songs on it soon...
I remember reading somewhere that all of the songs that they were releasing through the year via their gummybear flash drive thingies would be compiled into a physical LP. Hopefully.
Tonight!!!!! :D :D :D
Ralph- how was it? Flaming lips are easily my second favorite love band.
Truly awesome! Haven't stopped smiling since it started. There is nothing quite like The Flaming Lips live... I don't think you could ever go past your first flips show as your favorite but this came very close.
I heart Wayne!!!
I met Wayne before the 2nd Tulsa concert during September. He signed my Dark Side of the Moon cover, and we talked about the album cover and hunting. He seemed like a really cool guy.

he has such a great stage presence, i always have a blast at their live shows. I love the fearless freaks documentary, i really enjoy watching it, just something about him is so charismatic and warm. one of my favorite shows was at a small inexpensive festival this past summer. some guy flashed Wayne his man tits and Wayne just had fun with it.

The new album The Terror is streaming at NPR; it is great. Very atmospheric, but way more flow than Embryonic.
Haven't gotten into The Terror yet, another challenging listen from the Lips. I think I only ever listened to Embryonic twice. Thought the song they did on Letterman sounded a lot better live than on the album.
The Lips are very hard to listen to sometimes, which isn't always a bad thing. Sometimes they do cross the line of being to un-listenable though.
Besides, Wayne rubs me the wrong way for some reason. He seems pretentious. Is that just me?
