Post by: e_wind on Dec 24, 2010, 04:03 PM

My Morning Jacket (obviously)
Blink 182 (nostalgia for me, really.)
Pearl Jam - Live on Ten Legs
Taking Back Sunday (okay, okay i knos but when their first record came out when I was in middle school it was my favorite, and they have the original line up. im curious.)
Flaming Lips
Bright Eyes (again, just curious.)

I know im forgetting something.

Cage The Elephant
Iron & Wine
Lupe Fiasco

...what is supposed to come out sometime in 2011:

Blakroc - Blakroc 2
Ben Harper and Relentless7 - Give Til Its Gone

In 2008 Dan said blakroc wasn't making more music.

Also here's to wishful thinking for the solo Yim album.

Anyone know if WEEN will come out with anything in 2011? If so they will be just under MMJ in the list I have already given.

From what I've read, no. If I had to hope though, I'd bet for late 2011/early 2012 given that they've FINALLY just stopped touring a month or so ago and only been doing a few solo one-offs.

I'm excited for MMJ and Wax Fang.

Is there any confirmation of a Wax Fang album? If so, Fang is my #2 after MMJ.

Just read an article with the Slip / Surprise Me Mr. Davis frontman Brad Barr stating both bands will release an album in 2011. I'll believe it when I see it. They are two of my all-time favorite / most frustrating bands. The former because they rock, are 2 of the most electrifying live bands and have never received the accolades for it (thanks MMJ for having both bands open in the past). The latter because both bands, although underexposed, seem to have the poorest management team ever assembled, no promotion whatsoever, they never update their sites, and now they maybe play 10 shows each year compared to when they played nearly 200/yr from 2000-2005.

I thought Astronaut pt. 1 was a teaser/first track for an album to be released in early 2011. I could be making that up since I don't remember where I read it.

Whoa I didn't spot this question! That would be so sweet. I was on a high ride last night and had some sketchy cat tailing me so I pulled off on the first 'side road' I could that looked like there were any houses on it (vs. pulling off on a rickety country road and having a chase-down or whatever else you think when mildly paranoid....  ::) ) Wish it was daylight and I had my camera, it was literally Argus Rd. Figured I was safe at that point  ;)

That is an awesome find. Sorry about the sketchy driver though that is never fun. Argus is a great song. Quebec is one of my favs by them! I am really hoping that they release something next year even another Live/Bootleg would be nice.

Those people can suck it.

They're so inconsistent with news about their new songs/studio time that I doubt we'll get an album in 2011, but I would kill for one. And a tour.

And of course the new MMJ will rock.

Aren't the Backstreet Boys putting out a new album? Nice.  8)

I was excited about the Fleet Foxes myself until I read some of the difficulties they have had with the recording process. I can't remember where I read some of the things around it but I believe they have have difficulty with the writing process, stalled several times in trying to get it out and I believe abandoned quite a bit. I also read somewhere that Robin reported there will be more electronics on the album and maybe even danceable stuff? This could all not be true and just speculation but this kind of news makes me think sophmore slump.

I never got into radiohead. I liked In Rainbows. Does that make me a bad person? I liked it possibly due to the situation I was in when I heard it - drinking heavily at Monks in Philly in the middle of the afternoon.

Also Fleet Foxes and Band of Horses always interest me for about 5 minutes before I turn it off and just put on an MMJ album

Yeah, I think it was a myspace message or something like that?  It worried me too.

That's weird. Last I heard, Robin said it was going to be "less poppy" than the first. But that was a while ago.
That's exactly what I heard too, "less poppy"ness... from what I've heard (when I saw them July '09) they had a REALLY F'N RIGHTEOUS new song, "Blue Spotted Tail," that I fell in love with the minute Robin started belting it..... and there's also been a song "Bedouin Dress" that's been floating around some of their later shows.... also sounds pretty cool.  And other live youtubes of them that I've seen, I can't tell if they're new Fleet songs or cover tunes for some of 'em.... I dunno though, I think I'll dig anything they do..... I also love Robin's solo tunes under White Antelope, cover of Joan Baez' "Silver Dagger," "False Knight on the Road" (BEAUTIFUL SONG... was fortunate enough to see him come out and play it in '09 that fateful night.....) and his version of "Wild Mountain Thyme," which always takes me to my imaginary cabin in the mountains...  :P Def. stoked for their newness, whenever they're ready to share

In Rainbows rules

So does The Bends and OK Computer, other than those 3, didn't love any of the others..

They're each individual bubbles of sparkling gems of magick harmonizing angels. The Fleets just happen to theme 90% of their lyrics to nature, so you know I'm not writing them off anytime soon.  ;D

Anyone else excited for a new Mars Volta album? I can't believe it's been 1 year and 7 months and counting since their last. Hoping that it is as chaotic as Bedlam but as listenable as Deloused.

The Go! Team
Amos Lee

Amos did a lot of collaborating with the Calexico boys on this one.  Sam Beam's on there as well.   Comes out end of Jan., should be great.

I would bet heavily on a sophomore slump from Fleet Foxes.  From interviews I've read from them, they basically didn't even like the last album they put out and lucked into their success, right sound right time.  This time I'm guessing they'll try too hard to progress and will miss the mark.   The comments made earlier about their recording struggles are already pointing to this.

I just created a new TVOTR thread right before I saw your post.  I think that we had one before, but my search didn't turn anything up...

The new TS is fairly fabulous - more of a Black Love era deal.
