Playing London's King's College student union bar on Monday 16th May. Small venue. Awesome band. Don't miss it!

Only just had the link emailed to me. I'm half way through the album and it's sounding incredible! Saw them live a few weeks ago and I'd highly recommend going if anyone gets the chance.
these guys are playing at a small bar near my house tomorrow. Guess I'll check 'em out.

I have never listened to any of their music, not even a second. Just thaw this thread, and about 10 minutes later received an email from the local promoter saying they're in town on Friday.

I'd never heard of them until Paulie started a thread about them two years ago here. I guess that one was lost. Either way, I was sold immediately. Such an energy and rawness that I figured would be spectacular before my eyes.

absolutely gonna go tonight, it's literally a 5 minute bike ride from our house. Wish I could give the album a quick listen, but I'm looking forward to it either way.
Damn, this is a good album..I think I only have their daytrotter on my ipod, but I definitely listened to their last album at least a couple times. I remember it being good but jarring track to track. This album flows like butter, and im talkin like the stick of butter not that spray on shit

Totally agree Headdy. I think it's why I pointed out the brilliant flow of the album with such a variety of incorporated styles for the new one on the favorite records thread. As you said, their last album was just a little too helter skelter for me as well.
Bravo WD. I like this direction you're going in!
The show was great, absolutely loved it! The show was a bit shorter than I was hoping, but kick-ass high energy the whole time.
Is that bass player old enough to be in a bar?

i love this album...it's straight out of the 70s! i don't even know how to describe it..
I was just telling my friend that while I like all the artists they're cribbing from, I don't particularly like this. :(
Ho well.
This album is so good...my favorite of the year so far.
Best undercard act at Sasquatch! They KILLED it!!!
For sure my favorite album so far this year as well. I just can't believe how they seamlessly blend seemingly disparate styles into a coherent, flowing album. Truly a big step up from their last album.
I'm saddened though because I thought this would be a great year for music but this is my first album that I really respect unlike some of my other favorites such as BJoe Lewis who I find to be real fun and that's it.
Around this time last year, I was listening to Futurebirds, Delta Spirit, JRoddy, Phosphorescent, Tallest Man on Earth, Kylesa and Dr. Dog among others. I really hope the 2nd half is brighter this year.

I can send you a copy of Anna Calvi. Shit is great. She will send up on your list.
Ahem.... Mind if I pop in here for a minute? I dig what I have heard on Myspace/iTunes previews (about 5 minutes ago being the first). Which way do I steer?

I agree...that jam is like if Phish decided to do tighter jams with purpose...and less noodle. It kicks ass.

Same. This year has been underwhelming regardless, but I also thought last year was the best year for new music in a loooong time.

Well the new album 'D' is the one we're all talking about, and it definitely sounds on first listen like their best.
I also really liked Fits (the previous one), and Work Out Holiday. The sound has definitely changed over the albums. Work Out Holiday is very "garagey" and you can imagine students going crazy at the front of the stage, Fits jumps around between styles more and is more melodic (check out the song Regina Holding Hands) but still has some tracks of the older sound.
They were always a 3-piece but they've added another guitarist on 'D' and this seems to be the one where it is all coming together superbly. I agree with others that on first listen it's my album of the year so far as well.
I agree completely of your assessment of adding the 2nd guitarist Paulie. Though I have yet to see them and can't personally attest to their live show, the above posted videos reveal as much. Nothing like two talented dueling guitars. From Lay Low to some of my favorite bands right now such as Baroness and Scale the Summit, some stuff just rocks when you have two uber talented guitarists working off each other.
Check out this mixtape that White Denim put together for the Gorilla vs Bear website. It's given me a whole heap of music to investigate further:

Holdin' on to White Denim......WHITE DENIMMMM!!!
I'm sorry, it worked.
White Denim are back in London on Thursday 1st September, playing the Electric Ballroom in Camden.
Just bought tickets to see them in Liverpool on 31 August. Been listening to D a lot over the past week or so since it arrived.
Damn, missing them as there are here Tuesday opening for Yuck (who is bad ass also). Can't go as I'm out of town a couple days after that.

And tickets are only $12. Plus it's on the same night at Arctic Monkeys with the Smith Westerns. I need a clone or 2.
White Denim over Arctic Monkeys all day long!

October is the month for albums jeesh. That's at least 3 records I want to get on release day within a week or two of each other. Arcade Fire, Dr. Dog, and now this! So excited! Glad my birthday lines up nicely with all of that sexy music.

I'm with Scotty. The sound is definitely a bit of departure from their previous efforts, but nothing wrong with that.

Hey, Walnuts - good to see you back. I can't wait for this album to be released. These guys are just ridiculously talented, and put on one hell of a show.
Like the new song and can't wait for album. Oct will be an awesome month for new music!
New album leaked. It's solid.
Saw them open for Tame Impala last night. Have to say I was pretty disappointed. Sound was terrible. Biggest thing I like about the band is the guitar interplay and I could barely pick out the parts. Was also pedal to the metal most of the show and not enough dynamics. That I can understand because they were stuffed into a 45 min. time slot, but no excuse for the poor sound. When Tame Impala came out it was like night and day. Still really looking forward to the new album.
Oh my god they're more interesting than I was thinking they would be (somehow!) Ok I'm on board now! You know what it was? It was Penny's comment that they sounded straight out of the 70's. I'll still need to listen to them when I'm not down with a bad headache (I can only tolerate softer sounds right now...) But I dig theirs! :bath:

Did you see them in St. Louis? I was actually very impressed and I thought they sounded good. I've never seen them before though. Tame Impala started out pretty dull but the second half of the show was great.
Glad you're on board now Woody
I saw them at the Orange Peel last year. Crowd was tiny...but they still killed it. One of my current favorite bands, mostly because of their last album D...I'm not that familiar with their back catalog yet.
Thanks Hawk!! Good to be here ag'in! River to Consider grabbed me and shook me up!!! Love all the multi-instrument-ness! :cheesy:

Yes it was St. Louis. Not sure if it was our spot or what, but the sound wasn't good at all. However it was very clear for Tame Impala. Not sure what was going on. Both of my friends I was with thought the same thing, and one of them is a White Denim fan.
Loving Corsicana Lemonade, dare I say that its better than D. Well the hooks are catchier, for sure.
I heard of them but never heard any of their stuff until a few days ago. :embarrassed: Heard Pretty Green on the radio and dug it. Decided to pick up Corsicana Lemonade after I heard it. WOW! awesome album! This will be in my top 10 at the end of the year.

Really enjoying Corsicana Lemonade, but not sure I'd put it above D just yet. Looking forward to seeing them a week on Tuesday in Manchester.
I saw them this weekend and thought they were incredibly tight. This was my second time seeing them. I had previously heard their set at Bonnaroo in 2012 and was mightily impressed then as well. The guitar play this bunch pulls off is incredibly impressive, isn't it? I need to listen to their albums now.
