cool venue indeed.

I can't make this one but I'm most interested to see how the ticketing for Will Call goes, given no more ticketmaster.   I would think it'll be like Pearl Jam, where you don't know what seats you get until you show up.   It never made sense to me that Ticketmaster was going to handle Roll Call - Ticketmaster is all about who's fast fingers buy the seats first.... they have no way to handle "seniority" with a single sales time and code.  So I suspect the weren't "fired" but that was just a stopgap solution until the permanent system was in place.

I live half way between Hollywood and Santa Barbara. I got 4 tickets to the Pantages, but they are in the back. With this Roll Call thing I should get excellent SB ticks. Does anyone know if there is a limit for 2, or can I get 4? My only concern it the SB Bowl is surrounded by multi-million dollar houses, and they don't crank too loud, with a strict curfew of 10PM. I hope they start well before 8. The sun will set as they play. I bet there are not too many tri-county(Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo) people registered with Roll Call. Don't all of you outsiders try to buy tickets on Wednesday just to sell them over the net, I want front row center!

Shoot!  I missed the cut-off to get RollCall registration for this show.

I'm a huge fan, have been for many years and would love LOVE to score a couple of RollCall seats to this show.  The SB Bowl is one of the best venues in the country and being a local I'd really love to be there with some decent seats.

Any RollCall members willing to help a fan out?   If you are elsewhere I'd happily buy your tickets and throw in some swag as well.

Please please please!  I hate scalpers and do not want to have to pay their usury for the privilege of seeing one of the very best live bands around.

Just a fan who missed the cut-off for the Pre-Sale RollCall...  If the swag you prefer is the one I prefer Im sure we can find a way to make each other happy.

Rincon,

The SB Bowl has a strict 10pm curfew but the volume will be plenty loud.   This is one of the very best venues in the country and is such a killer place to see a band like MMJ.  The last time they were in SB was 2005 and they killed it at the Lobero.  The place was half empty!!!  Still ranks up there as one of the best live shows I've ever seen.

so true.  It's just a tough one to swallow knowing they'll be playing just a few hours from my house in such an awesome venue, and I won't be around to experience it...yet alone use my roll call powers to score sick seats.

I am very familiar with the Bowl. I have seen Talking heads, Santana, Roxy Music, The original Pretenders,Gypsy Kings, Neil Young and Crazy Horse, R.E.M. and even Death Cab for Cutie(took my son and his friends), over the past 30 years. The Neil show, Greendale, was, along with last years MMJ at the Greek, the quietest shows I have ever been to. I saw Crazy Horse in 1991 indoors, and they cranked. At the bowl everyone was yelling for them to turn it up.

rincon:  there is a 2 tix/member limit in the presale

streethound:  all rollcall tix purchased have to be picked up at will call by the purchaser.  your best bet is to go for the general on sale.  good luck!

also:  there might be sb bowl season tix holders at this show.

I am BEYOND stoked for this show!!! I absolutely LOVE the bowl and will be driving up solo from San Diego. I would love, love, love to be in the pit, but won't be able to buy a ticket until next week :(

I'm hoping this won't sell out or I'll...I'll...explode!!!  :D

I would love the pit, but I am too old to want to fight for location, or stand for 3 hours. Plus my wife would never go for it. Front seating is perfect. Santa Barbara itself is heaven. There is a reason the average house still cost over a million bucks in that town.

...been a long time since I posted, but with 2 tix in hand for SB Bowl in GA section (left of stage area though...I hope not too far off to the side) on a Saturday night of a 3 day weekend where I will be escaping the 110 degree desert heat; I can't contain my excitement.  I hope the volume isn't an issue.

Hello, first time poster here. I bought my tickets around 3pm today and were still able to get GA Floor. I was really surprised considering the Pantages show sold out before I could get anything. This will be my first MMJ show and my first time out to the SB Bowl. I live out in east LA County so it should only be about an hour and a half away, not too bad. I'm really excited for what should be an amazing highlight to the 4th of July weekend. If anyone has any tips for the venue, like preshow places to eat or things to do I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks everyone, already counting the days to the show!

blucas, this is from the SB bowl site:
Quote3. Where is the General Admission section?
For some concerts, the seats on the floor (Sections T, U, V) are removed and it becomes a general admission standing room only area. This section is the first section in front of the stage and is the closest that you can get to the act. Just a reminder, there are no seats and you will only be able to stand. Please click here to download a pdf of the General Admission seating chart.

4. I have a General Admission ticket and it has a row and seat number on it, what does this mean?
The seating locations are simply for tracking purposes only; they have no bearing on where you are able to stand.

Moochas thanks ms. yvon!  In checking out a bunch of venue reviews for SBB, I don't see too many complaints about volume, so that's a good thing (though I did read about a 100 db limit...not sure how quiet or loud that is, but it seems that most concerts are in the 110 db range).  I don't want my ears to hurt a la Dinosaur JR, but do think it important for the the sound to fill up the venue.  Was at SDSU Open Air Theatre for MMJ last August for a magical show, but would have been bummed if the volume were any less than it was.

The biggest (and really only)complaint in reviews was about the 10 PM curfew, but with no opener and MMJ's perfect mix of artistry and professionalism, I don't think we will be shorted on the back like with some other bands that can't get their shit together and start on time.

...counting the days!

The SB bowl IS a quieter venue. There is no doubt about that. It is nestled in one of the highest priced neighborhoods in the US,(think La Jolla or Beverly Hills) so them rich folks have clout. But the start time is listed at 6PM, so realistically they should start by 7, and have 3 hours to play with before curfew. As for local eats, the lowlands around the Bowl where the businesses are is actually, if you can believe it, the slums of SB. By slums I mean the houses are probably less than a million bucks. For a way to feel like you experienced SB State Street is a must. It is about a mile west of Milpas, where the bowl is. It runs from the pier, all the way to Goleta, but the heart is from the 101 to Anapamu. that intersection is called State and A. From there, heading down to the beach, is probably the best nightlife between LA and the Bay area. Tons of bars and restaurants.  If you have never been to Santa Barbara be prepared to be VERY impressed. Strict building codes that make tile roofs standard, and tract homes illegal, make it the most beautiful city I know of. Especially if it is a sunny summer day.
If I were going up from LA I would arrive about 1PM, park by the bowl, take a cab to the beach or State street, hang out, then take a cab to the bowl.
Edit I incorrectly stated State street is east of Milpas, it is west.

Thanks for the info rincon.

Since Panteges fell on a Tuesday...this worked beautifully for a trip to LA. Plus the holiday weekend will be a good time to get out of town. I ended up with pit tickets for me and my bro (will be his 1st show and my 9th).

I have heard nice things about the SB Bowl. Maybe we will get our 1st MMJ Emek poster for the boys. He's cranked out a few notables from SB Bowl shows.

Really stoked. Are there any good vineyards in the area? Or somewhat close to the venue? I seemed to remember alot of 'Sideways' being filmed in this area.

The vinyards are about 40 miles north of town. They are supposedly some of the best in the world, but I would not recommend it for the same day.

The show will be plenty loud enough unless you hang out way up top.  A killer view by the way.  I've seen a few dozen shows at the bowl and never really had a volume issue (except for the first few songs but that's normal).  Radiohead, Pearl Jam, Wilco, etc to name a few where volume wasnt even an issue.  Its a killer venue.  I had to travel during the sale window and missed buying good tickets but will be there for sure!

SB has some expensive homes but they're not really near the bowl.  Its really a standard neighborhood and there are a number of restaurants within walking distance.  Downtown is about a mile away and is filled with great bars and restaurants.    Who ever asked about the wine:  There are a number of tasting rooms that have opened in what's called the Funk Zone -Lower State St.   Drop me a reply and I'll point you in the right direction.

The show is listed to start at 7:30 and they usually start on-time due to the curfew.   They're also pretty strict about things like weed and bringing in booze.  I've seen so many people harassed for smoking a joint and or had their stuff taken by the over zealous security. ITs a big problem there so just be smart and mindful.   Hide your joints and stuff well before getting frisked.

If you've never been to the SB Bowl you're going to love it!   Its an amazing venue and this will be the best show of the season.

And if anyone has any Loge level tickets they can spare please, please please let me know.

Yesterday, I was counting the days until the July 2 Santa Barbara Bowl show.

After listening to the album on NPR First Listen (with headphones of course) on a 45 min and 7 sec walk with my dogs at midnight last night, I am now obsessively counting the nano-seconds.

The album is perfection and will generate more than its share of mouth agape, holy shit, magical live moments.

First time poster for me too. Same deal, L.A. sold out so I bought tickets for SB.

The Bowl is a great venue and the GA pit is gonna be awesome. It's a lot like the Greek Theater in L.A. except it's up on a hill and you can see the ocean. It's pretty amazing.

As far as pre show you can hit up bars and stuff on State Street before the show. I always like to stop at La Super Rica (http://bit.ly/k7hTK2 (http://bit.ly/k7hTK2)) which is on Milpas on the way to the Bowl from the 101 Freeway. It's a great little Mexican place that I hear was Julia Childs favorite. Yelp says they serve beer and wine and it's cash only.

Cheers,

Jason

Just checked, L.A. is still sold out.

Last time I saw MMJ was way back in 2002. They opened for Doves at the Mayan Theater in downtown Los Angeles --amazing show!

I don't get it , I bought PITT CENTER the first day of the regular sale. I guess there's just not alot of fans of this band on the West Coast.

They must have just released more tickets recently. Either that or the UCSB kids can't afford $60/ticket.  ;)

Park somewhere around State and Anapamu. It is also known as State and A. There is a cheap parking garage within a block. Walk towards the beach on State Street. In a matter of 10 blocks, you will see dozens of eatery/drinkery spots. As to what is good, it all depends on food preference and ambiance. You will have NO problem not having a pre-chosen destination. (pay attention to the double negatives)

Good Morning POOPERDUNKELS

My 3 Realistic Song Requests are:

1) PHONE WENT WEST
2) O IS THE ONE THAT IS REAL
3) DONDANTE

I hope they don't skip out on Highly Suspicious again tonight. (like LA)

If I get these half of songs then there's no need for me to travel to Red Rocks.

Totally agree rincon.

I was at the St. Augustine Fl. show last year and even though it's a small amp (maybe 3,000), it wasn't close to sold out. The guys rocked our asses off and gave us a helluva show.

Same deal at the Essex Jct. Vt. show too.

I'm betting on a killer show and setlist for you guys tonight.

Have a blast.

Wow... All I can say is wow... First show, and it was amazing. Had a great view from the pit, about 3rd row dead center. Everyone around me was giving off good vibes. Incredible! Can't wait to do it again.

Awesome night! Great show, great setlist, great crowd and what an absolutely amazing venue. I really enjoyed the balance of this show's songs between new and old. Things flowed really well last night. My bro was pretty pumped and it was pretty great watching him dig in at his first show. It seemed the guys seemed really stoked to be there too. Cool banter on the space station and Gram Parsons. Thought it was pretty funny when everyone got faked out by the plane, and the space station showed up a minute or so later. All in all this will go down as one of my favorite shows. Cheers guys! See ya on the East Coast! :coffee:

Towards the end of the set in SB, Jim mentioned the curfew as a reason the show was getting cut "short".  It is not often you see a band apologizing for "only" playing for 2 hrs 20 minutes...yet another example of why these guys are the best band in the UNIVERSE!!!

Right before Wordless he mentioned that he had longed to play the SB Bowl with MMJ after being part of a GP tribute show, then thanked the crowd/SB Bowl.

Just listened to the recording to make sure I wasnt losing it. My only question is...on the recording does he say he played a GP tribute when he was 5?
