Just been told the local street press has a nice big ad for Circuital with the words "Touring Soon" appearing at the bottom of the ad!!!
Best. News. Ever... ;D
wow, very cool Dave. I'm happy for you and all the other aussies. Man, I would love to return to Australia, I really miss it down there.
come visit! Its only 15 hours from San Fran...
You'll get to see the band in smaller venues. The venue in Melbourne last tour had a capacity of about 800 and wasnt sold out from memory. I cant see it being much bigger this time as the bands exposure isnt that much greater now.
I have now seen the ad with my own eyes and it does indeed say "touring soon!". Now I just have to hope that the bands idea of soon and my idea of soon are the same...
thats really cool! happy for ya, you deserve it as much as anyone
So exciting! Hope you get a bunch of shows, Dave! :)
the plan already is to try and get to them all!
Would love for Carl to bring his loop pedals along and play a solo show too!
Only just saw this thread now. I really hope they announce some dates soon. And I would totally be up for a Carl solo show. We could get enough people to sell it out right Ralph? ;) I just hope it's not another Big Day Out. Although that Melbourne BDO set had one of my favorite setlists.
Ok if they are touring australia they better tour New Zealand! If they don't I will probably go crazy... I mean come on it's like a 2 hour flight away!..:(
I'm hearing Dec/Jan, Possibly on one of the New Years festivals. Would prefer it to be their own tour but as long as it's not an 'exclusive to the festival' type arrangement...
Don't hold me to this info though.
wha? new years downundah? Say it aint so.
(I would of course be happy for you Dave)
Fingers crossed for you! :)
IT'S ON!!!!!!! :D ;D :D
Coming for Bluesfest in April!!!!! CONFIRMED!!!!
So excited I think I just peed my pants a little!!!!
Part of the first line up: www.bluesfest.com.au (http://www.bluesfest.com.au)
''Roger Daltry, John Fogerty, The Pogues, Earth Wind and Fire, Yes, Steve Earle, Buddy Guy, Justin Townes Earle, My Morning Jacket,The Jayhawks !More to come as announced!''
Not a bad day today: MMJ, the Jayhawks and a Ryan Adams tour all announced. Credit Cards gonna take a beating!
So, so excited...
Congrats, Ralph and weenie et al!!! My step-brother and his wife are "down under" as well. He should be excited, too. Can't get the link to work, though.
Thanks johnnY! A little further investigation shows a couple of sideshows the week beforehand, but as they haven't been announced I'll hold off on the details until confirmed just in case they change or my sleuthing is wrong. But I'll be booking a flight to Sydney on the 3rd April with a return flight to Melbourne for the 4th... ;)
Link is right, Id say they are experiencing server overload issues as this has just been announced here...

If you're hearing rumor of any shows near Melbourne (my step-brother and his Aussie lass live in Templestowe), PM me so I can give him a heads up. Good for you. Maybe a date in NZ for our buddy youreveingcoat, too.
ralph & beenie,
THE DREAM IS REAL!! :birthdays:
The day of a tour announcement is as good a time as any to join the forum...
Any news on whether there will be an Adelaide show? Strongly doubt it, but can always hope. May have to travel to melbourne, but would be hard if it isnt a weekend.
Awesome news Dave! Will Ned be attending the shows? After missing T5, he'll probably be pissed if he doesn't make a show so close to home ;D

Hey judd! Good to see another Aussie here. You can never have too many! I think it might pay for you to start an Adelaide petition cause from all accounts it's Sydney & Melbourne from what I've seen today...

Haha! Ned's at that age now where he really doesn't want to be seen with his parents. I'm sure the Fozzys can relate to that - when their not drunk or stoned!!!
Weenie and Dave-----congrats!

WoooHOOOO Aussie peeps!

I received an email about the Byron Bay Bluesfest this morning, and I saw Jacket is confirmed as one of the performers. The wife and I are strongly considering going for this festival. We went this year (2011), and we had a great time. I highly recommend people attend this festival at least once. The only negative is cost - it's not a cheap time to be visting Byron Bay.
Only 152 sleeps to go! ;D ;D
Roger and Steve and Justin and MMJ!!!!!?!?!?!?! Good Lord. :D
Apparently, this poster appeared on a website (http://www.tonedeaf.com.au/news/tournews/101581/my-morning-jacket-sideshow-dates-leak.htm), leaking other dates.

Is everyone (I mean the few of us) buying tickets now or waiting until they announce which days everyone is playing? Or do the artisits play all four days?
Check the bluesfest site weenie, pretty sure they have MMJ scheduled for the first night.
I won't be going to the festival, sideshows only for me.... Plus the Carl solo show they are sure to announce (please?!).

Hey guys
Long time lurker and reader and finally decided to sign up after getting involved in the roll call membership and stuff earlier in the year.... I'm definitely going to try and head east from Perth to see their 2 sideshows next year.... I also think they may play the west coast blues and roots to which is on the 1st of april before heading east. lineup is scheduled to drop soon apparantly :D
SUPRISE AUCKLAND SHOW..........yes?...no :(
Congrats! ;D ;D ;D
Yay so happy for you Australian friends, woohoo! :D Looking forward to hearing your reviews!
The wife and I have taken the first step to returning to Oz by purchasing passes to the Byron Bay Bluesfest. Now to get the time off work to go.
Just found out that I may actually be going to this!!! Have to take a 2 hour flight from New Zealand but my aunty that lives in Sydney offered her place to me. Now I just need to get time off and some money!

Awesome! I know you're doing bluesfest & Sydney but are you hitting Melbourne too?
Thanks Kyle!
Ralph, we will likely only do Sydney and Byron Bay. As much as we like Melbourne, it doesn't make sense for us to travel to Melbourne just for one night. In addition to attending the entire 5-day festival, my wife would like to spend a bit more time in the Byron Bay area than we did in April.
Beers in Sydney it is then!
I'm so bummed! I thought my stepbrother, who lives outside Melbourne, would be all over this, but he's now joined the cadre of my pre-MMJ friends that says they don't dig 'em enough to get off their asses and see what I'm talking about! How is it that all these guys I've known for years and none of them like MMJ? Oh well, their loss... :-\
I know a lot of people who are not into MMJ because their albums are be electic and don't have that "mainstream" sound. But whatever - that's their loss.
I feel sorry for them. These are the same people who only read best sellers and watch summer blockbusters. It's fine to do those things, but I would hate to subsist only on a diet of that. It would be like eating at Applebees for every meal.

So true... whatever applebees is though
I am now unfortunately unable to make it to Melbourne for the gig on Wed 4th April.
I'm sure most forumers have tickets but please let me know if you know someone who might be looking to buy one. $70 face value. Cheers.
Dawes added as support for Sydney & Melbourne! :D :D :D :D
I dont think I can handle any more good news today, I think I need to Lay Low for a bit to compose myself...
Found this excellent AU interview with PH (http://www.theaureview.com/interviews/patrick-hallahan-of-my-morning-jacket), didn't see it added anywhere, so thought I'd post it here.
Nice find Sara!
This bit excites me a lot:
Now when it comes to the show you're doing at the moment, you've got such an extensive back catalogue of songs to choose from. How do you put a setlist together every night?
This next set of shows, we don't have any parameters so to speak. I am feeling a cross section of everything. To have that many to choose from, we get into some disputes from time to time.
44 sleeps...
Interesting that Patrick mentions the band will be working on a "little side project" halfway through the year.
Let the T5 box set speculation begin.

I have no idea 'cause I don't really drink.
My friend says these are pretty good:
Kuleto's- They have cheap cocktails during happy hour. You can sit and chat.
Maly Bar- cheap drinks.
Zanzibar- She went there drunk but it's her favourite out of the three. Plus it has a pun in it's name...
There is a bar at the Enmore aswell which is always pretty packed. Not too good for a meet up though.
15 SLEEPS... :D

I have no idea! Sydney is not my town! When I'm there I usually get led to places by my mate who lives there... I'll make some enquiries and see if he has a recommendation.
Are you guys in a hotel in the CBD? We could meet somewhere and catch the train out to Newtown? We won't need to get there too early now as there is no soundcheck party...
Yeah, we have a hotel in the CBD. I think a friend (or friends) of ours may also go to the show. They live in Sydney, so they may have ideas. Send me a PM with your mobile, and I'll send you mine once we get to Sydney as we'll have to purchase a SIM card.

Fuck I'm excited! ;D
#*@^! We missed our flight due to visa and weather problems. We don't leave for Sydney until tomorrow.
crap! Still got plenty of time to get here though. I'll be thinking positive thoughts for you guys so hopefully no more delays...
Thanks Ralph.
We're in Calgary now, as I have family here. However, our bags are still in Toronto! That being said, we did get upgraded to Executive Class from Toronto to Calgary, Air Canada even offered to cover the cost of a hotel for us (but we declined), and we get between $50 and $100 each to buy some new clothes.
At least it gets any bad luck out of the way early in the trip! It's gonna be smooth sailing from this point onwards....
You just jinxed me, Ralph.
The lads should be warming up soon for their festival slot at Fremantle... Only a 1hr set so it will be interesting to see what they play.

First post was going to contain the setlist but was beaten to that already:)
EPIC night. Highlights for me were IB4U, Way He Sings, Lay Low, Dondante, Black Metal. Not really a fan of Black Metal on disc, but tonight it was amazing. Ears are destroyed but the pain was worth it.
Disappointed they didn't get to Slow or Phone, but I think they would have been kicked off the stage by the venue. Was approaching midnight when they finished up.
The Mrs. and I had the terrific opportunity to attend the show with Ralph and 3 friends of ours. We all had a great time. The show was terrific with the band playing for more than 2.5 hours. Only Jacket could play for 21 songs in 150 minutes. Part of the reason is that they had a couple new tidbits and jams that we had not heard before, namely:
- A "middle twiddle" by Jimmy in the middle of "Golden".
- A mesmerizing, "Cure-esque" jam to open Dondante, which clocked in at around 17-18 minutes.
"Gideon", "I'm Amazed", "and "Honest Man" also had extended jams / endings.
The crowd tonight was very good. A lot of people were there witnessing their first Jacket show, although there were a few older people wearing really old Jacket shirts. It was cool to see.
We've had a great time in Sydney. Now time to get about 2.5 hours of sleep before we have to leave for the airport.
I'll try to post some pictures later, although may have to wait until we get home. Oh, we unfortunately didn't meet Weenie, but hopefully will in Byron Bay.
It sounds like a great show! Have a great trip! 8)
Northern Neighbour- I wanna meet you guys too. I'm always (if I can help it) standing stage Carl and I always have a camera. Ralph- I pm'd you. Sorry I couldn't meet up.
The show was amazing. I can't believe they played Honest Man and I Will Sing You Songs.
The jam in Dondante was so awesome aswell!! I will have pics up in about a week.
Awesome set. Congrats everyone!
that is a great list. Man I'm jonesing for some live MMJ.
Wow. That set list makes me feel warm inside. That is pretty fucking close to perfection...I'm going to play around with it in my head right meow. :bath:
I gotta concur with the others going thru live MMJ withdrawal. For some reason seeing IWSYS on the setlist just made me start fiendin' like crazy. This summer cannot come soon enough!
Wow! What a show... It was a fucking assault and I can't believe I'm backing up to be beaten again tonight! But in a good way...
Loved loved loved the opening 1-2 of Victory Dance and Curcuital. First time seeing those live. When Jim came out with the sampler thingy around his neck, his long jacket and with his big triangle of hair he kind of looked like a hairy Darth Vader! We were right under Jim on the rail which was a pretty great spot to have. Great view of watching his guitar noodlings throughout the gig.
I think Honest Man and I Will Sing were the two Big suprises of the night but the whole setlist just flowed so well. From Lay Low through to Gideon was just insane. It just felt like it kept going up a gear with each song. No Tennessee Fire last night, but every other record represented pretty well.
Great to hang out with the northern neighbours for the day, you guys are awesome! Carol even gave me the setlist handed to her which is above and beyond. Thanks guys, really hope our paths cross again! Enjoy Byron Bay...
Cant wait for tonight! Here's hoping for Steam Engine.

I can't believe I had to ask that question...talk about brain freeze :'(
I was planning on using work bandwidth to do the upload but that will have to wait a few hours until I get home. Will post to Youtube as well. That's if my brain starts to function!
awesome setlist guys! slow into phone crossed off?! :'( that would have been a highlight for me.
also, what do you guys think about moving away? I'm not a fan of the song so I have trouble placing it anywhere in a list. Did it work here after a long Dondante then into Smokin?
Moving Away worked really well out of Dondante. Bo started the piano out of the ending so it was a pretty smooth transition. And from memory they pretty much rolled straight into Smokin'. It was weirder not hearing touch me pt 2 after smokin'...
Still buzzing from last night, only 4 hours til they hit the stage again!
My OBH video from Sydney show. Lay Low will be up soon
My Morning Jacket - One Big Holiday (http://vimeo.com/39752109)
Lay Low
My Morning Jacket - Lay Low (http://vimeo.com/39756990)
Here we go again!
I'm not too keen on Moving Away, but it worked all right last night. The big issue for me is tempo - Dondante is a great song, but it is slow paced for the most part. Moving is even slower. Smokin' is also quite a slow song, so that's three songs that could really lull the crowd into a trance. IMO, Phone would have worked better as a transition out of Dondante.
Also needed 1 or 2 more higher tempo songs last night. Adding Magheetah and/or Anytime would have provided more balance to the setlist.
Lay Low, though, was a huge treat. I haven't heard the full version since I think my first MMJ show.

Sorry for the Steamlessness. Nice to see Evelyn and the Phone you lost. No Dondante seems odd. No Lay Low either.
How was that First Light into Run Thru? I've also noted that Touch Me 2 into Movin' Away is pretty neat (heard it on the Tokyo taping), as the ending Omnichord syncs with the keyboard intro very nicely.
Rest up and thanks for the reports!

Too bad they didn't play Steam. At least you got Slow Slow Tune into Phone. That must have been awesome.
WOOOOOWWWW!!! Sorry i seemed to have ducked out of posting on here but I was at the Sydney show right in centre stage, just a bit closer to Jim than Carl. Fucking amazing! My first Jacket show. Dondante was so freaking sweet :O

Awesome, Matt! I was wondering if you ever made it to a show.
Just got back from the first night of the Byron Bay Bluesfest. Jacket's set was only 75 minutes, which was 15 fewer minutes than their scheduled performance (90 minutes). The setlist was:
Victory Dance
Circuital
I'm Amazed
Golden
Mahgeetah
Gideon
Dondante (short version)
First Light with Run Thru jam
Wordless Chorus
Holdin' on to Black Metal
One Big Holiday
While the crowd was pretty big, there weren't many Jacket fans in the audience. The vast majority of people there were waiting to see Cold Chisel - an iconic Australian, rock / power-pop band who started in the 1970s. The show reminded me of when Beast, a band from Montreal, had the opening act for Kiss at the 2008 Ottawa Bluesfest - good performance but just the wrong crowd.
On a positive note, we finally met Weenie and her sister, although it wasn't until after the show. Hopefully we'll connect with them during the festival and catch a few acts together.

Seems like they have been ignoring Anytime lately. I love that song live.
They haven't played Anytime in ages.
I forgot to add that last night a young woman from Kentucky was standing next to us. She's backpacking around Australia, but stopped for the festival to see Jacket. She had a sign that had "Louisville" on the one side and "Cobra" on the other. Carl, Jim, and Patrick all saw the sign and either smiled or gestured to her.
And with that the 2012 MMJ Oz tour comes to an end. Can only hope it's not another 3 years til they come back...
I'm still praying they play in Auckland sometime, although i'd love to go to aussie and see them again... It's fucking expensive there!!!
The flight home...

I didn't quite catch her name, as my ears were ringing. She had straight, long, brown hair; big, brown eyes, and was probably 5'6". She looked 19, 20, so maybe it was her.
Sounds like her! Last My roommate talked to her she said she was headin down to the festival to catch MMJ then headin to Argentina. Very cool that you ran into her!

I think the Bluefest ones turned out nicer but I didn't get very many of Tom and Patrick 'cause there was a massive video camera in the way.
The shows were so good. I still can't believe they played I Will Sing You Songs and Honest Man in Sydney. Bluesfest was great too (though they didn't play for the whole set) but I wish they hadn't played before Cold Chisel because almost everyone was there for them and I don't think they fully appreciated MMJ. At least that was the impression that I got.
