WAR BEGUN!!
Keep that in the set for Pittsburgh.
I just got back from the show. War Begun was awesome. Highlights for me were Steam Engine and Holdin On To Black Metal, but the whole show was fuckin awesome. It was my 3rd time seeing them. Oh, and they went into the jam part of Run Thru at the end of Touch Me I'm going to Scream Part 2. That was pretty cool.
DAMN! my wife wants to hear highly suspicious again so bad and they bust it out! LOVE the guitar soloing in war begun. looks like another good one. hope they bring the goods for vancouver, Ive got a lot of people im going with that Ive been raving about them to...
Damn...I'd take that set for Alpharetta, Georgia right now.
Love War Begun!
theyre definitely switching up the set lists this tour. War Begun is without a doubt the best gem they've played this year (in my opinion).
Wowowowow! Very cool setlist, great changes -- I like the switching of which song melts into the end of Run Thru, and Steam Engine into Moving Away would wreck me. War Begun -- Super Gem! :D :D
Evil Urges - 5
At Dawn - 0 ???
War Begun is great, but otherwise I would have been very disappointed with this setlist. It's a shame that a song like Touch Me Pt. 1 (or I'm Amazed and Highly Suspicious as far as that goes) takes the place of one of their older gems or even the two songs they didn't play off of the new album. Touch Me 2 and Smokin' are plenty to play off of the last album, they need to retire the rest for awhile or start playing 3 hr shows every night.

Then I guess it's a good thing you weren't there?

...or even mix in the rest of the songs from EU. I wouldn't mind hearing EU, remnants or even aluminum park from time to time. I hear you. But...this is how they roll, and we need to just accept it and embrace it.
i think they theyre switching up the setlists more this tour than they did last tour
I agree they are switching things up, it's just that At Dawn now seems to be in the same category as Tennessee Fire. Instead of 4-5 songs every night, it is an Honest Man here, a Phone WW there. Now, Evil Urges has taken it's place as a former album that is getting 4-5 songs every night. Not even close to a fair trade IMO.
And WalterFredo, I love me some Remnants too, but have given up on seeing it live at this point. I was lucky enough to see it once at the Chicago Theatre in one of the first two shows after Jim got hurt.
Maybe we can all go back in time to 2002 when every song was from Tennessee Dawn and At Fire.
No need to go back that far. The Z tour would be far enough. ;)
They should no doubt promote their new album. After that, play your best stuff. They have a big pile of songs to choose from that are "best", it's just that most of them aren't on Evil Urges. Also, that is not just my opinion.

Notice the compilation of critics reviews and user reviews would agree.
I don't know many people that would rather hear I'm Amazed, Touch Me Pt. 1 and Highly Suspicious over Dondante, Phone Went West, Dancefloors etc.
Well, I hope the band sees this so they can start planning their set lists according to Metacritic.
They've really been going about this all wrong.

Why so defensive? This is a message/discussion board. Marino was merely stating his opinion....or is this not allowed?

you're not merely stating your opinion, you're being a smartass to someone else who was merely stating an opinion. But, it's a message/discussion board, and if this is the method you use to communicate your opinion, who am I to say otherwise....carry on.
Thanks, walterfredo. I was looking for your permission, and now I have it. All good.
The crowd around me was really digging the Evil Urges stuff and singing along and everything. I have to admit I am not a fan of that album, but the live versions were pretty great and full of energy and I had a blast. I would like to hear more older stuff as well, but you know that's just how it goes. I was very happy with the setlist, especially since I missed them last tour and this was my first time hearing any of the EU stuff live.

THIS. When I am at a Jacket show, I do not find myself pondering the setlist, at least not for long -- I am usually busy having my panties rocked the fuck off. I suppose it's different when one is not at the show and is judging the setlist later, but still I find myself wishing I had been there more than wishing the songs had been different.

If they change the setlist, they make a mistake.
If they are predictable in what they play, they're making a mistake.
Part of enjoying a varied set list is the not knowing what is going to be excluded as well.
With that said, how long was War Begun?

I triple this emotion. even as much as I complain about setlist variety, when I'm at a show it's hard not to get lost in the zone no matter what they play. haven't seen them in 3years so just being in the presence of that type of audience and band will be a thrill within itself.

No doubt, as much as I love the technology of band message boards it just serves as a forum to allow everyone to bitch about set list selection. As long as they're playing different sets every night, I'm happy (although Dondante should be in every set, every time).
War Begun was AMAZING. I've seen them 8 times now since Z and that was probably the greatest single song I've seen them bust out. 10 minutes or so? Listened to the album cut on the way back to Seattle today, I think it's fair to say they've tuned that one up a bit over the years!
Spare a thought for those of us across the other side of the world who can only dream about witnessing a MMJ setlist! I'd take 5 EU songs any day of the week over two tours here in the bands entire existence...
And for what it's worth, this setlist looks fucken awesome, just like every other setlist of this tour.

It's one of their monsters, and I'd consider it a rarity at that. Glad it rocked your socks off, I only got it at T5 and it was everything I had hoped for.

It always has been a different animal when played live compared to the album track, and it has been "tuned up" over the years. Here's one from 2003:
My Morning Jacket - War Begun (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOZv9Xlk62Y#)
I got it at Red Rocks ( :D ) in 2008, when they were playing it between 6-7 minutes and I can't remember how long they went with it at T5, but if they've knocked it back up to around 10 minutes, wow. The T5 rendition was incredible, and I imagine they are really tearing it up now.
I cannot wait to hear it again on the T5 vinyl box set. Choder, when are you gonna send that thing? ;) :D

i'd say it was closer to the 5 - 6 min range. i actually timed steam engine (/nerd) and it was 12 min. war begun was not nearly as long.
but of course time has no meaning at a jacket show. time both stops and moves far too quickly. it could have just as easily been 45 seconds or 45 minutes.

I ordered a new vinyl-to-vinyl press machine, so as soon as that comes in and I set it up, I'll begin mailing out the red-white-and-blue vinyls.

Yes but there are some songs that just beg to be played long and lovely. War Begin, PWW, Strangulation, Dondante, Steam Engine, Lay Low, and most of Circuital.
Conversely, there are other songs that are made for medleys too that I wish they'd incorporate more. Easy Morning Rebel, Smokin, Touch Me 2
