NYE NYE NYE NYE
Ohhhhhhhhhh shit!! *SNAP SNAP SNAP*
I want to be a part of it...
I'm guessing this is winter tour, but part of me wants this to be the release of the T5 box set.
Dude you just got me nervous. I want a T5 box set terribly, but I'd rather have a new tour.

Aaah kind of a bummer knowing the Nashville show is at Vandy.
Guess I'll make a trip to wherever NYE is this year :D
WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!
It's true! 11 night NYE run at Cain's!
They're doing it for you Crispy! For YOUUUUU!
Not to be a downer, but NYE 08 was announced by June that year, before the RCMH date even happened for the EU release party. If its NYC, it seems awful late.
their FB post said:
"Good times ON THE ROAD ahead... check mmj.com this Monday for a big announcement."
so whatever it is .. it definitely has to do with shows and not just a box set or whatever  i am deeply worried that it IS a new years eve show because ya know .. please don't make me pick which child i love best !!!!
early-mid december dates please!!!!!!
Wha, wha, what is it? No matter, it's gonna be good stuff. :D :D :D

I also don't get the Roll Call email. They said that "more detailed" info was coming Sunday about Monday's announcement. How can you add detail to something not yet announced? Don't understand. I would have thought the info would come AFTER the announcement. Or are we getting early leek of said announcement?!?!

This might be it. What I don't understand is why we are getting a pre-announcement for only tour dates. I know I shouldn't say "only" but they typically don't do that, right? They just post the show and send out an email announcement. Even for T5 they just sent out the e-mail, it wasn't a warning saying something big was ahead.
Hmmm...

i dunno.. i think it will be the highest concentration of likeminded souls to spend a new years eve with.. last new years eve for me was kind of strange spending it in a place where i knew not a soul and spent my night floating around the scene here... meeting nothing but all the talkative drunks at every bar..
when i was staying in NYC for the week of T5... 12 days of time in NY.. i spent almost 3 days in a decent hotel room in the heart of Queens.. I jogged in the morning one day over the Queensboro Bridge and saw Manhattan just kind of slap me in the face.. scoped out the spot that i would spend 10 days with.. with 10 friends.. on 10th ave..
not to say i'm expecting anything like T5 to ever happen again.. i think i'm just recalling a memory of it..
new years anywhere would be nice.. a weekend trip extended out a couple days since the big party is on saturday night for NYE.. that is my wish
Oh man!!!! Dream big people, dream big! Thats what I'm doing! My dream is multiple nights in the same NY venue! ;D ;D ;D. I'm giddy!
My Morning Jacket are playing a one night only show in New Zealand on my birthday? Maybe? Hopefully?....... not likely...
So here's what we know:
1. lp's tweet "Dec just got busier" means there's a leg of the tour coming (this tweet was quickly taken down)
2. Dec 6th in Tulsa supports this, the only date to surface, right?
3. they can't play Radio City Music Hall, the Rockettes are there till Jan
4. The availability of the Beacon is 12/2-12/9 or 12/15-12/30
5. an announcement of the box set IS NOT worthy of an announcement of an announcement
so my final thought is a leg of the tour ending with a 3 night stand at the Beacon during 12/15-12/24...OR the fact that they're announcing the announcement means it's some kind of special fan based thing..possibly a smaller venue where Roll Call members have first access (that's a stretch)
I like the odds on the beacon 15th onward.....

dear god no, not T5 again. BEACON BEACON BEACON !! ... and damn those rockettes taking up RCMH ::)
Maybe it'll be more than just a show? Perhaps some other acts involved? Finally getting around to playing NYC this year is a big deal yes, but they sure are hyping this one up. I'm betting something a little extra may be in store.
3 nights at the Beacon would make my life

I think Penny is close with this one. For sure, "December just got busier" and with the 12/6 report of Tulsa, for sure they will be doing another US leg starting the last month of the year. They may well be announcing a T5 box set release around the holidays (a perfect give for that crazy mmj fan some of us may know) but the announcement has to be much more. A show at T5 to celebrate the release would be awesome but given how "big" these guys have gotten in the last year, one show in nyc would not be enough.
The Beacon has been doing a bunch of "residency shows" (like NY's City Winery) and a multi-night gig at the Beacon would be a beautiful choice. If any of those day's are free, start booking your hotel rooms soon. (Crispy- you can stay at my cabin).
Curious about the the Sunday announcement and if they announce a NYE show. I think the chances of at least 1 or 2 December shows in NY (which includes Brooklyn) are good. Not sure if a NYE happens in NYC again but if it is announced anywhere, I know I will see many of you good peeps there!
you all are making me giddy
The hole I see in the Beacon schedule is Dec. 16-29 on their official web site. Five or so shows in there would be nice.
I'll take what I can get but Beacon is far as nuts
There'll be some serious holes in MSG's schedule with no NBA season
Start spreading the news
I'm leaving today
I want to be a part of it, New York, New York
These vagabond shoes
Are longing to stray
And make a brand new start of it
New York, New York
I want to wake up in the city that never sleeps
To find I'm king of the hill, top of the heap
These little town blues
Are melting away
I'll make a brand new start of it
In old New York
If I can make it there
I'll make it anywhere
It's up to you, New York, New York.
I just really hope that they either don't play anywhere near Louisville OR they give me a reason to go to NYC other than a "regular" show. I want to see everyone, but I can swing the expensive and LONG trip for just a show

There will be no NBA season this year, sorry for the NBA fans but i haven't heard of many talks between the two sides and in all likelyhood there isn't going to be an NBA season. Thank goodness for hockey!!!
definately has New York written all over it one way or another.

Is that so? That would eliminate NYE for me, but a string of East Coast dates would make up for that.
My only $0.02 is that it seems safe to assume that SOMETHING will happen in NYC. They haven't been here yet this year. My guess is maybe 2 shows here as part of a small tour of the east coast.

my guess / predictions
1) not a normal tour announcement -- normal tour would not warrant an email like that
2) Bringing to my next prediction -- something along the lines of a multi-night Halloween or New Year's Run ... perhaps as unique as T5
3) box set / T5 set - gut says even a multi-night run alone wouldn't get an email like that. Has to be tour dates + something extra ... box set...something
I do have a hankering for a mission style burrito.....c'mon!!!!
i'm hoping for a South Florida date. That would warrant a big announcement, right?? ;)
most likely not going to be able to make any out of town shows, unless they coincide with the travel plans that I already have over the next couple of months. fingers crossed.

I still frown over that. Not their fault, but a great crowd was deprived because of dumb frickin curfew. I hope MMJ includes Charlotte at some point next year.
Not that this is breaking news, but after combing over a lot of the comments, I'm joining the camp that believes the announcement definitely has something to do with NYC.

No offense to NY or SF, but you guys got your NYE shows. I'm of the mind that a NYE should be somewhere in the middle of the country so all fan's have the opportunity to make the trek.
But, yeah NY definitely deserves some love - whole buncha hardcores up in there, fo show.
Hoping against hope that NYE is the only place it rightfully should be - the band's hometown - Sidney, Australia.
No, Louisville? Damn, which is it? I get confroosed.
What are we talking about again?
Would a NY show on December 14th be a BIG announcement though??
Clarkwork, I say no. I think it has to be something along the lines of a T5 run (note along the lines, not saying return to T5), or a new regular tour + T5 box set

I agree. I DO think the announcement is going to be a short tour including "Very Special Evenings w/ MMJ December 14th at MSG and Decemeber 31st on the west coast"
it's looking more and more likely that the Dec 1 Gibson show in LA is for real. I think that would logically put them outside of Cali for New Years but you never know.
SF, Vegas or NYC NYE all work for me.
I'm more excited for TTF terminal 5 night one show than anything else. Bring it on!

"Start spreading the news" is bit of Frank Sinatra's New York New York. Seems to be a bit of s hint in that line somewhere. I figure there will be a late December show in NYC. I also expect the band to announce the show in Tulsa. I hope they do a NYE show somewhere close to the midwest (Chicago or Louisville) instead of NYC. They are playing Nashville, at Vanderbilt. But it's a college-sponsored show, so no pre-sales available.
Any details on ticket prices for MSG?
I imagine they'll do a GA pit area.
I have a MSG NYE poster I'd be willing to GIVE YOU FOR FREE if you can secure me 2 or 4 ideal sidestage seats.
I will purchase these tickets from you at full face + fees.
We can meet at MSG will-call to exchange tickets/cash/poster.
I think all signs now point to Louisville for NYE. I'd come out for it.
Selfishly, I'm soooo pumped that there will be 2 shows within a 3 hour drive for me. I'm feel very appreciative of the MMJ gods who planned a boca raton and orlando show.
very thankful this evening. can't wait till december

SO happy for Haldon!
i AM happy for NYC for myself, and for TX and FL dates for those who were passed earlier in the year. lucky LA for the second show of the year!
I was thinking there would be an NYE date cause the news was so hyped, but I'm stoked to go to NYC
and BTW i never got the email so I hope you all aren't messin

i didn't get it either, but it's on the roll call website :)
I didn't get it either. I wish Nashville could get Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings for openers. The only good thing about a Vanderbilt show is that the ticket prices might be a little cheaper. I noticed last year's homecoming concert was just $25.00. On the downside, frat boys and sorority girls. Oct. 20th, I'm looking at you. I'm still going to hope for NYE in Louisville. I could easily swing that.
I just looked it. Super hyped to go to Nashville and SUPER SUPER hyped to take a little trip to new york for the first time in my life.
the next step is for you new yorkers/jerseyers to tell me where is the best place to get a hotel. i think ericm was telling me that its a lot easier/cheaper to get a hotel in jersey and there is public transport into the city.
woooooooooooooohoooooooooooooooo...nashville to nyc!!!
btw...i still don't think the announcements are done...nye in louisville...mark it down

Hotels in the city are expensive and rates will probably be jacked up for the holiday season. I don't have any suggestions since I've always lived so close to the city so I would def take Eric's suggestions.
Even more exciting that I will be living in the city by then. Start spreading the news I'm leaving today! :bath:

Good for you ms. y !! Are you going to do S.F. too, or does that question even need to be asked? ;)
I'm thinking about going to San Francisco. I just checked airfare and i could do it. I'll have to convince my husband that instead of a new couch for the holidays, I'd rather go to spend a weekend in San Francisco and see a band that he doesn't like. Yep, that will work.
Sidenote - my husband has horrible musical taste, but I love him anyway.
do we have ticket prices yet? I can't find anything other than soundcheck being $45 more than reguar tickets.
Two Bay Area shows in six months! I'm still trying to find my face after the Fox show!
I'm happy for all of you who got shows in your neck of the woods at nice venues.
I was really looking forward to something more attractive for NYC. MSG on a Wed just doesn't turn me on given some of the shows I've seen over the past couple of months in more intimate venues.
I was at the MSG show for NYE and that was definitely something special, a true milestone for them. But they've been there, done that, and on a way more magical night. Something like a run at the Beacon would have been spectacular and more in tune with the great karma generated by T5 last year.
Oh, well, there are still 2 weeks at the end of Dec unbooked by MMJ and the Beacon. One can hope.
this news is pretty underwhelming for a michigander :(

Nope. I'd be all over a Kentucky New Year's Eve Celebration. I'm a little leery about buying tickets to MSG knowing that they might drop a Louisville NYE on us. Is this a credible rumor or just fabricated optimism?

Being based out of KY and not quite up for large travel, even for a show of this magnitude (I LOVE BAND OF HORSES!!!) I won't be attending any of these shows (other than possibly/likely the Nashville show), so I'm really hoping for a NYE in Louisville show. If MSG and Louisville were both an hour away from me, I'd rather do NYE at the Garden, but as things are, I'd much prefer a YUM Center show.
they've already done a huge L-ville show this tour, i don't see them doing a NYE show..
I just think Louisville could be smaller/more special. I did the MSG thing and it was great in its way, and I love BoH, I'm just looking for something...more.

That's why I'm hoping for a small Lville show :)
Other than the fact that potsy mentioned he heard from a friend something cool, I am really doubtful anything else is going to be added onto what we have already. NYE in Louisville would be amazing, cause then I could hit MSG and NYE cause I live in Louisville, but I don't think thats really likely.
I was honestly hoping to see NYC NYE more than Louisville NYE cause NYE usually translate into my one out of town trip during the school year. This year instead of going to the F'Lips NYE I'm doing this MSG show....
looking like a yr without an mmj nye party.
msg might be underwhelming as a venue (who wouldn't prefer a nice beacon run) BUT hey, it's still a NYC show. No complaining on my end.

Anyone going to any of the National dates around then? I'm thinking about hitting one, would be fun and become a JFE thing like the F'Lips/MMJ at JFW
I'll be at the National show on Thursday. Though it's seated, the Beacon is a beautiful venue to see a show....

I'm going the night before. :)
okay... so i'm freaking out a bit.. excitement on one hand but logistical problems on the other..
so... i live in wisconsin but have decided to swing down to florida for boca raton, then hit greensboro, and finish off with msg.. (band of horses, too, really??? :) )
however, i haven't yet signed up for roll call. and i'm out of town without a single cent in my debit account.
so i have two questions:
1. when do tickets go on sale to the general public?
2. will there be anything good left, or anything at all, for those three shows?
bonus: 3. am i overreacting, and everything will be fine?
i've loved MMJ since 2008.. but this tour has changed things.. as someone said in a different thread, "i just can't let this tour go.." until these rumors came out i was thinking about following them to europe.. anyway..
there that is.. little help?
MSG is so big I think it will be A-okay to get tickets on Friday. It won't be the first couple rows, but not bad I don't think
well i just saw the post on the main website....
so apparently mailing list members can get tickets tuesday? :) nice

so where's mah Box Set?!

I think the "big" part of the announcement was the ability to go to the soundcheck party. I'm quite excited about this, not many bands give you this kind of access. Plus you get a signed lithograph and a "sticky" (whatever that is).
I still think the box set is coming, band members have said as much. Maybe closer to Christmas time? Just like when you were 5 and waited on Santa, this may require some patience.

I'm hoping for an Xmas release but they could be waiting until Record Store Day.
JFC! I soooo wanna do Houston but my car was crashed last week, I'm gonna be bankrupt for a couple of months.
ahhhhh!!!
I really doubt we'll see the T5 box set until maybe 6+ months from now. Record Store Day might make sense, as they like to bring something special each year to that.
IMPORTANT QUESTION
I bought 2 tix via the Roll Call pre-sale. I understand it's inefficient but I actually want to buy 2 more. Will there be any logistical issues preventing this? Don't want risk a cancelled order, will call pick up nightmare, etc.

You should be OK. For the fall tour, was on Roll Call presale, bought 2 tix for Charlotte, then 2 more people wanted to go, so I bought 2 more a couple days later. Had no problem with the order, or will call pickup.
awesome thank you
Am I the only one who is highly disappointed in their venue choice for SF? Bill Graham Civic Center sucks BIG TIME. Bleck. I never miss bay area shows because: it is so close, they always kick down when they play SF, and I have a ton of wonderful friends there who all adore MMJ. But I can't get past the venue choice, worst venue in all of SF IMO. They should consider 2 night runs at The Warfield. Now that would be magical.
*I do hear from friends that Another Planet is upgrading the sound system, but really the problem is the acoustics, and I can't see a solution for that.
You're not alone, I hate the BGC as well, it's terrible. Unfortunately not many other mid size indoor bay area venues, but I think I'd almost prefer the cow palace. I'll still be there.
I went to see Soundgarden at the Bill Graham Civic in July. It seemed to me that the sound was much better for that show than previous shows. However, the sound does bounce around the venue quite a bit. There were serious vibrations going on between The Mars Volta and Soundgarden that night.
Beggars can't be choosers. As much as I'd love another Fillmore run, they've just gotten too big for that venue now. Same with the Warfield. I'll take the BGC over the Oakland Arena, that's for sure.

The Fox is the same size as The Warfield, I thought. MMJ has not outgrown those venues, IMO. Granted, having Sharon Jones joining them draws a whole new crowd and makes it a bigger event. But I feel that MMJ is in that perfect sweet spot of popularity where they can play awesome theaters that hold ~2200, be guaranteed to sell out the show, AND sound good to the audience. This beggar, at 36 years old, is definitely a chooser. Have fun as i am sure the show will be, but I am hard pressed to spend the $500 for us to fly to the bay for my favorite band to play an acoustic nightmare...

Hm, that's interesting. I've never been to the BGCC and was planning on a road trip! I'm in the same boat as you Liz, lot's of friends and fam in the bay area and it's always a good reason to get down there. But it ain't cheap and with the holidays, and driving over the icy pass, for a sub-par venue??? Not sure we're down for this. :-\ I can't believe I just said that....
I think the paramount in Oakland would have been a great choice, beautiful venue with a capacity over 3K. BGCC is just awful, totally agree with wiz. It's a no-brainer for us though, another jacket show in the bay was an unexpected treat.
I did an analysis of MMJ's growth in NYC from 2001 to 2011:
http://www.glidemagazine.com/hiddentrack/venue-segues-my-morning-jacket-in-nyc/ (http://www.glidemagazine.com/hiddentrack/venue-segues-my-morning-jacket-in-nyc/)
Anyone here see that Brownie's show?
If I'm missing any headlining gigs, please let me know!
Both the Fox and Paramount are larger than the Warfield. The Paramount is slightly bigger than the Fox, except that it's all seated and very tight on booze, smoke, etc... there are never big rock shows there anymore for this reason. They probably would have done the Fox again except that they sold it out real fast last time and can definitely sell many more tickets than the Fox can hold. Not sure if they'll sell out BGCC, and I know it's not that great of a venue, but come on folks... you honestly think it's a big enough of a factor to make it not be another effin awesome jacket show? On the plus side, it's a super convenient location for public transit in the city, BART, hotel options for out of towners, etc. Get close to the stage since it's all GA and I doubt you'll be thinking about the acoustics much at all. A lot of great bands with an ear for good sound play there all the time, so I'm sure they'll be able to work with it just fine...
that was just..... downright painful..

I hear what you are saying, and if I lived in the bay area I would surely be there. I have caught all the shows in SF since NYE Fillmore and have always had a great time at great shows. But I can't justify flying down there for BGCC. And while being up front is fun and all (I love being in the thick of it), acoustically it isn't the best spot to be in. And once you step back a bit at BGCC, well the sound just dissipates and bounces around.
Like I said, I am sure it will be one hell of a show. But the band (if they even check this site anymore) should know the opinion of those in the audience. That is all.

Yeah I get that-- Normally I'm a major sound geek myself but can't resist the pull of a full frontal from the jacket, regardless of sound.

yeah boca is all ga. its a cool flat outdoor venue in between the city and the everglades, like there is nothing else in civilization past this park. i saw the lips there one year ago tonight... weird.
