Haha! Yes it would.  I thought the exact same thing. "How nice of them to do this for my b-day" ;) It's a Saturday night too! 8)
I'm definitely there if I can get a ticket.
Wow.
There if I can get tix. The last time I tried the Carnagie website (for Ryan Adams tix) I was completely stymied. I dont think I can walk over to the box office on Friday. If anybody has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.
i think i'm going to try for this....

I think you should. When I first saw this, I thought how awesome this show will be. My second thought was that Tennessee is just to far away for me to make this show. Hopefully there will be lots of videos of it.

I know, it would be so awesome! You will be at MSG right? ? Coming from TN? Nice, I just had my first trip there last month - to Knoxville.
tix are on sale. got 2.
Got a pair too! Hope everyone who wanted them, got them!
Got mezzanine ticket this morning. Carnegie Hall is massive, but great sound. Think I'm gonna have to locate some binoculars to see the boys and find the rest of you!
Got 2. See y'all there
Got 4!!
i'll be there
For anyone that has been to Carnegie Hall, what are the views like from the second tier, center balcony and side balconies? As I wont be able to catch the MSG show, Im trying to make a trip up from Louisville for this show. I feel like just being in the building would be enough for this show, but I just want to know what to expect seating wise.
Got 4, see you guys there!
I'm going. Is this the official roll call thread? :) And I might have two extras in the center balcony if anybody is looking for that section (I know it's not sold out or anything).
If you are debating about going to this, run there don't walk.
Carnegie Hall, Preservation Hall, MMJ, Del McCoury Band, Trombone Shorty, Givers, Allen Toussaint, Blind Boys of Alabama, Tao Seeger, and Yasiin Bey (aka Mos Def)
....there's so much awesome that I don't know what to say. Nola love in da house.
Everyone at T5 got to enjoy Allan Toussaint's Basic Lady before the curtain fell every night! I can't even believe how good Shorty is at such a young age. Legends
tickets came in the mail today. glad there is something to look forward to after MSG!
:D Got 2 tickets for this!

Not that many tickets left.

midtown for sure. bob and i may do dinner first as well, if we can get into the city early enough -- figuring out sitter and stuff. SO excited to see you ! We will touch base about where to meet up - I really have no clue about the bars in the area, so if anyone has any ideas (ahem - penny or eric) please speak up!
How about McGees for old time's sake?! 55th/Broadway--it's within walking distance of CH and it will bring back old T5 memories
(also can't find much non-posh places near Carnegie Hall)
that's only my first suggestion---we've got all week to decide...i need to be out of there by 7:30, also..i can meet as early as necessary.

Good call Penny! We walked past McGees on NYE, and I was hoping to stop in for a drink. We ended up not too far away, and closed the joint, so never made it back.
Here's where we ended up. A pretty cool Pub, not far from Carnegie Hall either.Good food, drinks, atmosphere, and some great tunes playing! It's not as big as McGees, so if we have a decent sized group, it might not be the best place.
http://oldcastlepub.com/Menu.html (http://oldcastlepub.com/Menu.html)
Just throwing another place into the mix, as I'm up for wherever everyone else wants to go. Kinda like the idea of re-kindling some T5 memories, so I'll vote for McGees pre-show, and we could always try the Old Castle post show. ;)
McGee's sounds great! Especially since Bob and I only made it their on the last nite, post-show! Perfect :) Will know what time closer to the weekend.
Anyone looking to sell a ticket for the concert on Saturday? Can't believe I missed these when they went on sale! :-\
Mcgee's it is! (midtown bars still :P ) How we gonna do this though, the show starts at 8! meaning we would need to meet at 6:30ish for a quick one....
I can be there from about 6-7. ;)
We are gonna grab an early dinner and meet you guys at 6:30. Can't wait!
You guys have fun tonight. Allen Toussaint is going to be treat. The joy he has while playing is infectious!
McGees it is!!
The food was pretty good there for the T5 run, so I'm probably going to show up around 5:00- 5:30, and get something to eat.
I'm guessing we'll meet upstairs again?
wishing all you guys a good time. sorry we can't join you. would have liked to be able to at least stop by and say hello but other plans got in the way. :'(

What are you guys expecting to hear from MMJ on this one? I've got fingers crossed for Jim singing St. James Infirmary with Allen Toussaint on keys. What else? Highly Suspicious?

I've been speculating too...I mean, with all of the acts on the bill for this show, I'm wondering how it's going to flow -- all collaboration/all individual acts/a little bit o both. I haven't even started thinking about possible song selections yet. I am just so thrilled to see them and all of the others in this wonderful venue. SO beautiful! AND, maybe Jim will have a new outfit? A girl can dream..... ;D
guests listed so far on the Bowery Presents page:
Allen Toussaint, Blind Boys of Alabama, Del McCoury Band, Ed Helms, GIVERS, Merrill Garbus of tUnE-yArDs, My Morning Jacket, Steve Earle, Tao Seeger, Trey McIntyre Project, Trombone Shorty, yasiin bey (FKA Mos Def)
Going into this one with no expectations whatsoever except for it to be a fun show and a great time...plus it's supposed to be in the 50's on Saturday! See you all at McGee's!

TONIGHT
How cool is this?
While in the New York Metropolitan area for an appearance at Preservation Hall's 50th Anniversary Celebration at Carnegie Hall, Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews will make a stop at East Rutherford, NJ's new MetLife Stadium. The New Orleans prodigy will perform a "soulful rendition" of the National Anthem this Sunday, January 8. The New York Giants will then face the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL playoffs. Trombone Shorty will then board Jam Cruise for a series of performances.
Probably could go in the NFL thread, but fits here too.
GO SHORTY and GO GIANTS!!
met all the guys at the show at sleep no more Thursday night. Jim played 2 songs and fashioned a red boa at the end . They were all there and mad chill all spoke of how excited they were for tonight's show. should be a good one
God damn I wish I was going tonight. There is only one word for a lineup like this: perfect.
Wish there was a webcast, realizing that's the most wishful unlikely thinking ever. But damn would love to see / hear
Can't wait to hear some details. Hopefully everyone is having a blast!

awesome show. jim came out and did st. james infirmary with phjb and trombone shorty. allen toussaint may or may not have been playing piano. can't recall. the rest of mmj came out and played wonderful the way i feel acoustic. phjb sat that one out but came back along with i think king britt to do carnival time.
all of the guests came out for the encore for when the saints go marching in. im sure i am leaving out details so somebody please fill in the blanks.
much fun last night ... pre-show meet up was great. always such joy to see everyone's smiling faces!! the show was great and what a venue!! i'd only been once before to see trey from phish play with the philharmonic. i took friends that are fairly new to MMJ and my friend ty kept saying to me "Wonderful has to of been my favorite part of the whole show", sweet!! the whole show was really lovely though and i felt so proud for our dudes ... getting to play carnegie hall !!! i had originally been planning to go to jazz fest this year but i bailed out due to finances (going to JF is an expensive ordeal yo!). last night put a little extra cajun in my step and i'm gonna see if i can't make the trip a go. the 1st time i went (the last one before the hurricane), i vowed to go back every year and katrina sorta messed that up for me and i never did make it back for a JF. it's time!!
no great pix as we went for the cheap seats on this venture. one thing i did like about my seats is that i had the rare opportunity to stand up (carnegie isn't exactly a stand up venue and to be honest i get dizzy up top, whew!) and so i did that and danced
encore when all musicians and dancers came out. after everyone left the stage PHJB came and played one more on their own .. when the saints go marching in. there were some folks down front with little second line umbrellas and i remembered that i actually did have a white handkerchief so i got that out just a waving and dancing. good times!
oh and tommy played a standup bass and all the dudes were looking spiff'errific of course :)

Sub and br00ke capture it.. the Pres Hall fellas have a real love/respect of Jim and the boys you can see on stage. Just an amazing night of music and vibes with an all star lineup. With the way the show was structured I was really surprised/happy with the Wonderful interlude. Patrick had a smile on his face the entire time. And Carnegie Hall?? Just a great setting. Seeing Ed Helms aka Andy Bernard playin banjo with the McCourys was pretty interesting.
Pres Hall will be doing this a second time at Jazz Fest to close out Sunday second weekend.. a spot the Radiators used to have. If you have never been, I can't think of a better year to go, its such a blast.
Now the important question is... who is going to be able to get me some tix to the late night show featuring Jim and PHJB at PHall??? You know it is happening
Here is a link to some relatively crappy phone pics... given it was Carnegie we didn't bring a camera but now wish i did. http://www.flickr.com/photos/58669798@N00/sets/72157628776370749/ (http://www.flickr.com/photos/58669798@N00/sets/72157628776370749/)

Ben and Jim
Last night was a such a Fantastic show!!!! I have been to a few different things at Carnegie Hall, including a rock benefit for RED. But PHJB sure did shake off the dust there last night!!!
All guest were great and MMJ came out in the second half of the show. They did St James Infirmary, Jim signing the first version and then Clint Maedgen from PHJB signing the second up tempo version. MMJ preformed an acoustic Wonderful. It really highlighted Bo near the end, beautiful! This they did without PHJB, which I think was the only time in the evening they did not play, they stood near the back of the stage and you could see Ben Jaffe getting his photo taken on a smart phone from one of the other band mates with all of the Hall and audience in the background. PHJB came back up to join the boys for Carnival Time.
Oh there were these dancers that preformed during different songs, they really added to the New Orleans flavor and when they came out maybe 3rd song in of the night they really were an unexpected surprise. I could see Brooke up a level dancing along the whole night. Carnegie Hall has probably never been more lively with everyone stomping and clapping along last night!

awesome show. jim came out and did st. james infirmary with phjb and trombone shorty. allen toussaint may or may not have been playing piano. can't recall. the rest of mmj came out and played wonderful the way i feel acoustic. phjb sat that one out but came back along with i think king britt to do carnival time.
all of the guests came out for the encore for when the saints go marching in. im sure i am leaving out details so somebody please fill in the blanks.
Pres Hall played "I'll Fly Away" with everyone on stage in the end. Then came back with an encore of "When the Saints come Marching In' which was just them . Lovely way to end the evening!
just them and some of the youngins!

It looks like you all had a great evening! I'm so happy that you got to see such a show.

thanks brooke. do you know the artist? i saw somebody carrying one on the subway after the show and it looked a lot larger than most gig posters.
Great reviews and pix gang. Sorry we couldn't make this one but I'm smiling reading all of this and am so glad ya'll had such a good time at that sacred place!
What a fantastic and joyous evening at Carnegie Hall. We had primo seats, and really enjoyed going up and checking out the stage and all of the memorabilia in the Museum/Cafe area. I had only been there once before, during college, and didn't have an appreciation for the unbelievable acoustics back then. Whoa, the sound was tremendous.
We truly enjoyed each and every portion of the show, and here are some highlights:
-PHJB - just all of them in their glory - from Preservation Hall to Carnegie Hall.
-Ben Jaffe's emcee skills. It was really nice to hear him talk about the history of PHJB, and it was super cool when his Mom came out, later in the evening. I was also really touched when he spoke about the key part that the city of NY and Danny Clinch played in their coming back from the brink of collapse following Katrina. It was so touching.
-The GIVERS sounded terrific, and I thought the lead singers voice was so rich.
-Ed Helms doing a little shtick and picking the banjo.
--Trombone Shorty and MOS DEF.
--the Dancers.
--TAO Seegers goofy dance.
--JIM JIM JIM -- all golden haired and beautiful and wearing NEW THREADS!
--BO in Wonderful
--Patrick, just being Patrick
--Steve Earle
--The finale and the 70ish couople in frnt of us breaking out their mini fleur-de-lis umbrellas charging the stage :)
A really incredibly unique evening, that has me SO bummed that we are missing Jazz Fest for yet another yeaer.
LONG LIVE NOLA!

Yeah it was Val,+ I figured on top of the good cause it was very cool to have my golden b-day the same as theirs!
Great hanging with you and Brooke post show. The only downside to the night for me was that it went by so fast. Looking forward to the next time, and thanks for celebrating with me :-*

Yes it does. All the performers are listed in alphabetical order just below the main "PHJB & Friends" at the top.
