I'm in agreement. FA and OMS were originally written for the Muppet project, not rejected for the current Muppet movie, as every article today is inaccurately stating.
see what you're saying. you're right
I'm thinking this could be anything since the put it as "gift." Why bother with the quotation marks...... maybe it's like a gift.

Before Jason Segel convinced Disney to make the current movie "The Muppets", My Morning Jacket were in the early stages of developing a Gorillaz-style experience, where MMJ would play live, "behind the curtain", to the Electric Mayhem band, as puppets, playing on stage or on screen to the audience. The Disney executive with whom they were working got axed and the project fell apart.
I only know for certain of two songs written, in one form or another, for that project - Friends Again and Outta My System. Wonderful (The Way I Feel) may have also been orignally destined for this project.
Jim speaks about it during the interview included in the iTunes session Xmas EP that just came out.
got it
i just noticed the dude from Flight of the Conchords did the music in the movie.
It really is a great example of how great ideas start out with this amazing potential and then fizzle out into some drivel at the hands of execs. It seems like Jason Segal's heart was in the right place, I guess playing with house money leaves little room for wiggle.

But Jason Segal's idea had nothing to do with the project that MMJ was potentially involved with!
Ok, I was thinking that Jason Segal wrote the script and wanted mmj and then a Disney exec got fired and the person that took his place decided that the mmj/electric mayhem band idea was a no go. It's all so confusing.
I'll put myself down to buy one copy of the indie version
basically, it just looks like folks are trying to bank on the muppet name any way possible. i kid of course
sweatboard, excellent avatar! I watch that special every xmas so it was cool to hear Jim say the same
so now that we know that the friends again 7" comes with a digital download, what could this possibly be?
everyone is thinking it... nobody is saying it...
Potential for some T-5 Magic? Earlier than everyone else?
On the other hand... Jim (Yim) did mention January as a possible release date for his debut LP as a solo artist. Maybe a free taste of that?
There are like 9 threads about this, but that's been suggested. And what I'm hoping for. Maybe a 12 song LP length taste or something.

This fan club needs to step it the fuck up. Just keeping it real.
I'm in the fanclub and I bought three of these 7". Why the fuck would I need a download of ONE of the songs?????
Yeah, still pretty glad I didn't join.

+1
1. Why would you buy 3?
2. You paid 30 bucks? What did you expect? Hundreds of dollars worth of material?
3. Band is currently on tour - you expect them to crank out an Hypnosis Series Jam every few nights?
Expect more when band's schedule is calm, and have realistic expectations. You paid 30 bucks and you're virtually guaranteed good seats at any show.

Agree the poster made it worth it, the shirt was gravy.
The shows I went to were after I got Roll Call and I was still able to get what I wanted, however I'm sure it's advantageous for bigger shows.
I didn't buy the 7" so I'm happy with this too :D
The band has so much unreleased material not including years worth of live material, I'm sure they could have dug a little deeper. Not complaining because I'm not in the club, just saying
I bought three so I could help some people out.
I'm not expecting any dollar amount of material, just something interesting or unique.
Seems funny to give a gift that most of the people who received it, myself included, will still buy when given a chance. The gift is somewhat redundant. I'm happy with Roll Call, but the gift is kinda weak.
I'll admit I'm disappointed, not because I think I'm getting shortchanged by Roll Call (I've already received my money's worth) but because it's a download of a commercially available track many fans have already purchased. Another batch of T5 teaser tracks would be appreciated and good marketing. Can't spoil my good mood, though.

Exactly, I don't regret joining. I've said it before; every move the band makes is unique and seems to go farther than expected. It's the management that's letting me down at this point. A digital download of a song they just released to independent record stores, which people in Europe have been ordering to be shipped overseas seems pretty lame. Along with the iTunes bullshit. I have no interest in Mac products or in iTunes taking over my computer. What if they just sell their next record only at wall mart? and then offer the fan club a free download of one of the songs off it??
Wal-Mart?! C'mon MMJ has Target level class at least.
haha, I was pissed when PJ partnered up with Target, but then again they were on an independent label and trying to figure out someway to get around the machine. You could still buy that record directly from the band. This iTunes only release just boggles my mind.
It's not their first. I don't know why they wouldn't release it themselves but there are obviously reasons. Itunes/Apple is not the devil. It's actually a pretty socially responsible company, especially for the size.
Sure, but I'm invested in this band not Apple. Trying to spoon feed me a corporation that I have no interest in, just seems wrong. Why bundle something with a corporation unless you were getting paid by them? These guys can tour and live off just playing music for the foreseeable future because of their fans. Why shove shit down their fans throats? Just seems to be in opposition of what I thought this band was about.
I just downloaded the free gift. I have to agree with most of you about being disappointed in it. Not because I don't think I've already got my money's worth, but because this is something that I've already bought. Why would I care if I get another copy of it in .wav format?
This band paid for itself and the hundreds of dollars I've spent on them long ago.....I remember buying the AcousticCitsuoca album and playing it over, and over, and over again. I kept thinking I just paid like $5 bucks for this, money now means so much less to me because there is NOTHING I could have paid 1million dollars for that would have been as good as this!!! It was a moment of epiphany. I couldn't believe it. I'm just concerned about the direction things are taking. Having said all of that "Friends Again" is beautiful, great recording, great riff, and Jim vocals soften my heart, as usual.
someone please pm me the Friends Again single so I don't have to purchase it or join the fan club.
thanks

I always found fan clubs to be a little self congratulatory. Plus, I don't believe people without means should be excluded from a rock bands "club". Seems like the sort of thing rock music used to frown upon.
My wav file doesn't even work. Not in iTunes or any other crappy player I have here at work. I had to switch out of Chrome to even dl it. Lame.
I'm not sorry I joined because every time I open my wallet I see my little club card in the spot that used to hold my credit card.

So there used to be a time when you could be in a "fanclub" and didn't have to pay money for it? Tell me papa, tell me all about it.......
I think of the 30bucks as a way of excluding douche bags that will sign up for anything that's free. It's not like they can test our blood to see who gets the best seats. I'd rather pay for the fanclub than for a piece of fruit. ;)

Music and Fruit are in this world.....who's fault is it we have to pay for it? We have a rough time raising money to make lives better, Pujols just got paid 250mil not to be a cardinal. The tidal wave that is mmj is not being done justice by RollCall.

I wouldn't say I have a problem with illegal downloads. I do it, I also spend about 2 grand on music a year. Hell, id send it to you myself if I had it downloaded. Let me rephrase....why don't you want it? The actual, physical 45, I mean.
Ok, you just made me feel much better, I spend about 700 a year on music. What makes me feel better is that I'm able to download stuff for free to decide what I want to spend my money on. I would have never bought Thee Oh Sees, or Wooden Shijps, I don't even think I would know who A.A. Bondy was if not for this free music venue that has opened up. Of course with the cost of living in NYC we are probably just about on the same page.

Ok, so I'm in the fan club but I hear you! I'm a huge Who fan, and there was some thing a few years ago that only those in the fan club could participate in. So I went to check out the fan club...and it was
$150 TO JOIN !!! (I did not.) However, $30 in today's musical economy did not scare me and although I haven't actually gotten much of anything from being in the fan club, I still think it's worth it. So far I got a toxic smelling poster (feh) and t-shirt (which I will never wear...thanks for thinking about us ladies who DON'T wear men's t-shirts), a card that is a joke (but I carry it proudly in my wallet), a certificate (I mean, really?), access to tickets early (every show that I would ever see within a 500 mile radius is GA, unless they play Shoreline soon, which ain't happening) and some emails that keep me in the loop (nothing I don't know already from the forum). SO...I can't explain why it's worth it...the only thing I can come up with is that I am now a card-carrying member and for some reason that makes me happy. I am such a loser.
All that said, I am not a vinyl person so the DL made me happy. And people..if you think you are getting some sicko fan club T5 DL you are just too starry-eyed! Yes, it would be insane and incentive for those who are not members to join. But the very essence of a fan club is to throw a few small bones...period! You will never be as stoked as you hope you will be. It's just not in the fan club nature. Artist Arena just ain't that cool.
Bah humbug! Happy holidays!! :)

@ zanjam - One of the perks you're missing is the cheaper ticket fees. They're about 1/2 of what Ticketbastard is. If you bought 4 tix this year, the savings paid for the membership.
I know you mentioned the ga shows, but if you do get a seated venue, there are quite a few here who got totally hooked up with great seats, including me. Pulled a pair of front row pits for Philly this summer. That alone was worth the membership to me.

Right...and would be to me as well. I just don't reap that GA benefit...but still not complaining that I got the membership! It's just not all that. But you know...I did get my Bill Graham Civic tix thru the fan club and had to go to Will Call! To me it would be a wash, paying the ticket fees and printing at home...as opposed to lesser ticket fee and waiting at Will Call. My point is...I got practically nothing from this fan club but am still psyched I am in it. Not complaining, just sayin'!

The main reason I joined Roll Call was for the opportunity to buy tix before the general public. I scored some pretty good seats to the album release show in Louisville and I also scored sweet pit tix in a very small pit at the Detroit show. Those two purchases alone made my Roll Call membership worth the purchase price. The added gifts are just gravy as far as I'm concerned...
