Love'em or hate'em, DLR is nuttier than squirell shit but the man could put on one hell of a show. They just released tour dates. I work with a Panamanian guy, probably in his mid-50s, and I asked him if the song Panama was big back home. He'd never even heard it. I was pretty dissapointed, was hoping it was something close to a national anthem for them. ;D
I find it funny they are skipping St Louis (Horrible crowds if I remember hearing the last 2 times they came) as this town is way too in love with "classic" rock and that they are playing Chicago twice but a month apart. Come one, United Center and the Rosemont Horizon are not that far apart. Same could be said for LA and Anaheim.
Everything up to and including 1984 is brilliant. I hated Van Hagar.

If you thought this tour announcement couldn't get funnier...Kool and the Gang to open "select dates".

If Mike Anthony came back, I'd be all over this. His contributions to their sound and overall vibe was underrated to say the least. If Wolfgang starts playing a JD bass, I'll hire a hitman.

Kool and the Gang played at my male escort's uncle's wedding. After the wedding, John (male escort - really he just goes places with me that the husband doesn't want to go to) called up one of his aunts pretending to be the bass player. He invited them to come to their hotel. All of the aunts went except presumably the one that had just married into the family. When they got there, they realized that it was a prank. When they got home, all of their husbands wanted to know what they were going to do when they got there. Muscle Shoals, Alabama wedding drama!
Also, why would anyone want to go see Van Halen without Michael Anthony? Just proves that Eddie is a dick just as much as DLR is batshit crazy.

It's pretty awful...then I asked myself what did I really expect. I can't imagine them busting out another Ain't Talkin' Bout Love or Unchained right?
For all you Van Hagar haters, 5150 was a damn fine 80s record. I think I was in 7th grade when F.U.C.K. came out. My brother took me to see them at Nassau Coliseum with Alice in Chains opening. It was instant middle school lust with Van Hagar. I used to rock a Van Halen bandana to school...in 1992 :embarassed:
It is horrible. But Ruckus, if you ever find a picture of you with the Van Halen bandana, I really hope there's a mullet underneath it :embarassed: and maybe an old trans am with the t-tops that you were driving. At least in my imagination, that's how I'll think of you. ;)

As someone who saw the original Van Halen 4x plus their last headlining show ever in North America at Reunion Arena in Dallas in 1984 (For free! snuck in by a dudes dad who took tickets), I can offically say that Van Hagar sux ass.

Van Halen>Van Hagar>Gerardo
I didn't have a mullet then Fully, just a full on braided rat tail
My buddy got tickets today for himself and someone else. I was invited to go and was all set and psyched for it. That is... until he told me for the MSG shows in order to get a good seat I'd have to pay... wait for it... $180 per ticket (including fees).
I passed...

I never got to see Van Halen (I don't count any iteration without Anthony), as Tracy did, but I did get to live my senior year in high school with the soundtrack of such being that "fine 80's record" that I would prefer not to name, let alone have to hear a single note from again. THAT was awful. Seriously, Love Walks In? Dreams? AGGGHHHH

I see your fellow seniors knew what was up. Summer Nights, 5150! C'mon. That album is unstoppable
That picture of DLR looking at himself in the mirror...I'd hit that if somebody would keep him from talking. Also, some of my best high school memories and a few that I'll never remember come from Van Halen at Municipal Auditorium in the early '80's. The highlight of the first time I saw them was Valerie "Hot Shit" Bertinelli being escorted by security to the soundboard to watch the show. This was before they got married. The second time I remember some strange silver lame chaps that DLR wore, and I don't really remember the last time I saw them. Pretty sure I became the naked guy at MSG sometime after Bachmann Turner Overdrive left the stage and before the third song of VH. :embarassed:
I'd definently hit up a show if they were touring small clubs; this actually looks pretty awesome! (minus the guy filming it)

You gotta love that ticket price $ 9.50. You can't even buy a pack of smokes in downtown Chicago for that price now.

If I remember correctly, I paid $8.50 for tickets to my first VH show + the ticketmaster or whoever they were back then fee. I remember being outraged at having to pay $13.00 for tickets to see Journey.

Easter 1995 at my Gramma's house. My aunt and uncle ( my uncles name is Dick, who is wearing some type of strong cologne) and my 2 cousins, one is 5 months old. We are all sitting around the table and my Aunt hands my Gramma my 5 month old cousin to hold while she says the blessing. The next thing that comes out of her mouth causes the entire family to lock up in laughter. She says the following with a smile " I smell Dick ".
AMEN

Van Hagar was beyond bad. he turned a great rock band into a power ballad band. I can and will never consider anyone but DLR real VH. I can't wait to see this tour. they were one of my favorite bands growing up until about 1986.
Parts of 5150 and OU812 were pretty good. I like "5150" and "Mine All Mine" from those albums. However, I'm not sure why Sammy turned into a pussy when he signed up - and gradually pussified the band in the process. I mean, "Heavy Metal" from the soundtrack of the 1981 animated film rocks and his work in Montrose was solid. Some of his pre-Halen solo work is notable too.

Kinda weird how I feel about Van Halen vs Van Hagar; I sure listened to a lot more Sammy Hagar than I did DLR's solo garbage. Van Hagar was the most completely pussiest of pussy rock. But I thought Sammy's Heavy Metal kicked ass, though Don Felder's was better:

Parts of 5150 and OU812 were pretty good. I like "5150" and "Mine All Mine" from those albums. However, I'm not sure why Sammy turned into a pussy when he signed up - and gradually pussified the band in the process. I mean, "Heavy Metal" from the soundtrack of the 1981 animated film rocks and his work in Montrose was solid. Some of his pre-Halen solo work is notable too.
I played the shit out of that 1st Montrose album

I did also. I like the old Montrose and Sammy solo stuff, and to be honest I was excited when Sammy joined VH. I liked 5150 and then it went down hill from there for me.
Yeah, the best tunes on the Heavy Metal soundtrack were from Felder and Hagar, with all due respect to Devo and Black Sabbath. It's interesting that Heavy Metal is a Canadian animated movie and some of the actors doing the voices were then early cast members of SCTV: John Candy, Joe Flaherty, Eugene Levy and Harold Ramis.

Van Hagar was beyond bad. he turned a great rock band into a power ballad band. I can and will never consider anyone but DLR real VH. I can't wait to see this tour. they were one of my favorite bands growing up until about 1986.
This is incorrect. From the greatest live concert film of all time, "Live Without a Net"
This how to rock 101. Note the unrequited high five at 1:30, unrelenting ass kicking at 2:40 and the post ass kicking solo group jig at 5:00. Take notes

I was at that show as it was filmed in New Haven, or New Halen as it were in the video. One of the great memories of my life was the two night stand over which that video was filmed. They never quite were what they were with DLR but Sammy had his moments.

Thank you. I have the isolated DLR Running With the Debil on the ipod and when it's on shuffle and it pops up...well, there are no words that adequately suffice. It's just beautiful, man.

This is funny! As the youngest contributor to this thread by far, I posted the Live Without a Net vid in jest only to get half hearted support for it. I couldn't listen to 5150 for the life of me now from start to finish but consider me the 7th grader that discovered MMJ via Evil Urges for the 1st time and saw MMJ at the same time. Why yes, VH I will always be my favorite now but when I was 13, I listened to more Van Hagar then Vanilla Ice or MC Hammer.
If any of you get a hold of my debit card (the balance teeters in the 100-599 range), the password is 5150. Seriously
Now I'll have to change my pin to Women and Children First just to keep up with you ;)
What, no Gary Cherone love? >:(
