I just wanted ya'll to see, if there is enough interest in this then I think I'll go to the management and see what I should do next. let me know what ya'll think, would love some criticism if anyone's got it.

I also made one for a white tee, not sure about it though

I dig it Mike. I personally would go with the black t-shirt. Sign me up.
I love it. I think I like it better without the My Morning Jacket text but no big deal either way.

thanks guys!
easily remedied BH, if thats what people prefer I can totally take that out.

I agree with BH.
"it's just the way that he sings..." on the back, maybe? That's just the first thing that popped in my head when seeing this.
Great job!
I really like the black one. [conan]WOW! I am buying that t-shirt![/conan] Sign me up as well.

right on, I've been thinking about the back side
Blown to bits!
Good stuff!
One suggestion I would make though is to change "My Morning Jacket" to "Yim Yames". I know Jim doesn't like to use his likeness in MMJ stuff, especially if the other band members aren't prominently featured as well.

yea thats what I wasn't sure about, I'm trying to come up with a full band tee... so if people want to submit the best picture they can find of each band member (especially patrick's clock arms) I would really appreciate that!

I was wondering about that. Not sure how the whole permission to use stuff works, but i found this...

Scary
Love the design. Black is much better. Maybe just put MMJ on the bottom right and a lyric quote on the back would be cool. Or something like MMJ=Face Melting. I would def buy one

haha, I've seen that one, I would rather not use someone elses design. i've got something planned out in my head.
Real nice. Different. At first on the black I could not make out JJ. Then on the white it jumped at me! But now I like the black better. Maybe I'm confused........!!
I think it would better without the text, gets folks to ask.
seems that the best is to remove text then! i'm not going to post another picture without it so ya'll can just imagine what it looks like ;)

I wish i could just put a button on the back that played that song when pushed...

How about a scrolling LED sign on the back so that you can pick your own text?

But seriously, hopefully someone in the band or management will pick this up and run with it. Best of luck!

I'm also guessing that you can't use his image or name on a shirt you intend to sell. Worth running by management, for sure...maybe they'll decide to pick up your design and sell it themselves!
Great design, man! :)
yea, I was going to shoot them an email and let them know I have this design and a bunch of people are interested

holy shit, I never knew MMJ was in Willow!!!
I likes the black one, no print on front but, put "Why does my mind blow to bits?", "Wordless Chorus" or "There"ll be a knock on your back door" on the back and I'm in!!'
haven't heard back from MMJ management. I hope they respond soon. Anyone have any suggestions about that?
Quotehaven't heard back from MMJ management. I hope they respond soon. Anyone have any suggestions about that?
If youre not selling them for profit (which I dont believe you are), and just charging the people youre making them for what it cost to produce them (actual shirt + printing), then I dont think there is any problem on the legality side.
I could be wrong, but I think thats basically correct because you just shouldnt be making money off MMJ's name/brand
If it's not for profit you should be okay. Management has a guy who checks out the boards and if he hasn't contacted you to tell you he has a problem, you're probably okay. If you're wanting to actually make contact with management about design opportunities, pm me, I may be able to help.
Personally, I'd wait to hear from management. We have a couple of attorneys on this board, don't we? Has anyone asked them?
It's not necessarily true that not profiting does not violate copyright laws, btw.
Thanks to some help from Dylan I got in contact with management. Awaiting to hear their word on it.
So if I put a picture of Bob Dylan on a shirt and sell it, that's violating copyright laws? So every rock and roll t-shirt out there is paying a royalty to the artist?
QuoteSo if I put a picture of Bob Dylan on a shirt and sell it, that's violating copyright laws? So every rock and roll t-shirt out there is paying a royalty to the artist?
To some degree, all of the legal ones...YES!
For some reason, I dont think MMJ will feel slighted if 40 rabid Jacketeers show up at MPP with the shirt that AMC made though
well folks, I went to management anyway because I want this design to be printed on a better quality tee with a better quality printing technique than I can afford. I don't have the money to get the shirts ordered and printed and then shipped out to everyone... if I had a job then maybe I could do it another time or if management doesn't want to do the shirts then I'll have to work something else out.

What if everyone who is interested pays for their shirt/s up front if management doesn't want to participate? That way you wouldn't be out any dough and you would have a solid number as far as quantity is conerned. In the mean time we'll just hope that they're on board.

True that man, I think that's what I'll have to do... and then when I get all your money I'll run off to mexico and you'll never hear from me again BWHAHAHAHA!
I'm not an attorney, though with as little as I know about copyright, you cannot reproduce someone's image/likeness without their express consent. While profit does play a part, that is not the only consideration.
Regardless of if the band "minds," there are other considerations and, since we are fans of this band, we ought to be mindful of those. Well, we should be mindful, regardless.
I think the design is great, btw.

QuoteSo if I put a picture of Bob Dylan on a shirt and sell it, that's violating copyright laws? So every rock and roll t-shirt out there is paying a royalty to the artist?
A licensing fee, yes.
It's a dilution issue - if people go around bootlegging shirts with bands' names and images on them, not only will people be less likely to buy official merch (so the band loses money) but the band can't control the quality of the merch and in turn the quality associated with their name and brand. Many bands tend to be protective of their intellectual property since they make more money on merch than CD sales.
I know we don't like to think of it like a business, but it is.
All that said, we know AMC has the best of intentions (not to mention a kickass design!) and by taking this to management he's avoiding potential trouble down the road. Best of luck to you! :)

Nicely put.
Of course, these are (some of) the same people who gave us the "make-your-own-Monsters-of-Folk-shirt" stencil, so who knows. ;D Better safe than sorry, is all.
As far as shipping the shirts out to everyone AMC, Id say just bring em to the show and hand them out as people arrive.
I love the black one! I would be willing to pay up front. Can you do baby T's for girls? If so I'll take 2, a men's and women's. Also, a suggestion for the back to make it a little more of a forum insider thing...RAMPANT BADASSERY!!! Thanks again to yvon for the stickers last tour!
There ya go. Rampant Baddassery! No mmj lyrics and that could be any ol' bearded person. No court could ever prove that it's Yim.
;)
One more vote for Rampant Badassery.

i designed a tee recently too for Coachella - take a peak. this is an awesome sight for selling shirts. you get some cash out of it too (10%). This would be a good place to perhaps post em.

Last time I spoke with management, which was maybe a month ago they said that they were showing Jim the design so he could give his yes or no. Haven't heard anything since then. I figured that with the tour starting and all of the other things he's got on his plate, he may not have had time or he has made a decision and management is just as busy to get back to me at the moment. I'll probably email them again soon and hopefully will get a solid answer either way.

Hey Mike, Is this the t-shirt we were chatting about at T5? Super duper fly!
i forgot about this? whats going on with it?
So do you all think that my Ba-Ba-Bananas Nanas shirt falls in this territory? All text and no images or names....
I made a handful (by hand with iron-on transfer sheets) after NYE Fillmore and did not profit one bit.
I want to make a second edition to commemorate T5...

It looks like it's a women's shirt or is that just the mockup they used?

It does look that way, but it's probably just the mockup. They were selling your shirt at Johnny Brendas (and it was a regular fit just like the one in the deluxe package).

I saw that as well - I considered getting my picture taken in front of it... so surreal to walk up the stairs and see it hanging there
Wore mine to work the other day and everybody loved it!
