I've never subscribed to MMJ's roll call before, mainly because of the head ache people seem to have when dealing with it.
Would it be worth subscribing to, if MMJ hardly tours this year? (Assuming I will have to pay another $30 next year).
Also, how does the point system work? I'd love to get one of the album art T-Shirts.

In all honesty, the way Roll Call operates, via ground(ctrl), is maddening. That said, I've always felt I've gotten my money's worth. Roll Call presale for Jim in Boston went pretty well and early entry is a nice deal, when it works. Getting a Reno and Fung print and shirt these past two years covers the up front cost, IMHO, though I've no idea what the third year package might look like. Jim's slip about opening for Dylan has accelerated interest across the interweb, so competition from 2-3 fan bases for tix might make Roll Call worth while.
For every fiasco (Forecastle pit, Philly RC presale, PC early entry), there have been great RC moments (soundcheck parties w/posters, Under the Overpass, early entry that worked).
The $35 is worth knowing that you will be eligible to get in on any special things the band has going on. It would be a bummer to miss out on a special offer or event for Roll Callers only. Maybe a fan club only show (PJ has done it in the past) or limited edition merch or who knows.
The poster, shirt, signed certificate in 2011, access to good seats early is all good too.

If I purchase roll call tonight, is there a way I can get early entry into the Columbus show this Tuesday? I doubt I'd have the laminate by then, but if I spend the $30 now, I'd like to be able to do that. Otherwise I'd hold off on roll call until I heard more about the Dylan/MMJ tour (that way my subscription would last longer into next year without renewing).

i hear you. $20 on shipping is frustrating since there are clearly better ways to go about this. not sure what groundctrl's set up or workflow is... or even if its possible for them to look into alternatives... but $20 is $20. if they charged $50 shipping for owl's to fly in the roll call packages i would find a way to justify it. :wink:

Yes it's possible. You can purchase presale tix now too. Just contact grndctrl to be sure, but if you print out you enrollment confirmation you should be good to go. OH, and it arrived last week. 4 full months to complete the order only to have it be wrong.

The 2012 laminate will get you early entry, if available for the NYC date, fwiw. I feel your pain and can't explain the delay. It seems that, since Roll Call was created in April of 2011, that the cycle of RC swag (poster, laminate, t-shirt, or whatever) runs the same cycle. If you ordered in late January, the 2013 package had not yet been designed, so I'm not surprised you got the R. Fung gear. I would strongly suggest, however, that you put a support ticket through at this site (http://support.groundctrl.com/).
Where am I supposed to get my live show download code at? I was told my email, but unless I am overlooking it, it is not there. I'll email them in the morning about it, but I didn't know if you guys knew more about it or not.

I've always promised to take my near-70 year old mom to Dylan, and then in recent years have made the promise to take her to Jacket too, and I'm willing to join RC just to get the Cincinnati presale so she can sit a few rows from the stage and soak it all in. No dice. I hit ground control up on their website, but considering the issues I've had with preorders from them in the past, I'm not expecting a good result.
Y'all please keep your fingers crossed for me that some good seats are available for the Cincy show when they go onsale to the gen pub this weekend. The "Gold Package" ticketmaster presale is unconscionable.

I'm not sure why it takes so long to get live redemption codes when the fans spend so much on shipping and Roll Call. It's a freaking code you email to me! I don't want to burst your bubble about when your roll call package will arrive, but last year, mine took three months to get to my house. It's best not to get your hopes up. You'll be less frustrated that way. I'm totally serious about this. I would be okay with this if the shipping cost wasn't $15. I talked to a guy in Cbus who said that it took around a month or so to get his roll call package. I can't believe it took you 3 months! It seems like the best way to deal with Ground Control is to just laugh it off.
I'm not in a hurry for the package, and I already have an extra laminate, but it is such a disservice to the fans.

I'm confused. I just happened to stumble on here today to check when my Roll Call membership expires- which I discovered is in May- and then came across threads that the memberships have sold out. I know Roll Call sucks ass, but after 2 years in the bands fan club, I am not going to have a chance to renew because they sold out of fan club memberships while I wasn't looking?! Can someone enlighten me?

I thought they took it down because of the Americanarama presale? I remember in the initial heads up email it said that RC memberships would be available up until a certain time before the presales. I assumed once all of the dust settles from the presales the memberships would be available again.
I spoke to one of the employees at Ground Control and I was informed that the packages would be restored on the site as soon as the presales conclude (May 3).
"If you have yet to sign up for Roll Call you will have until 5pm pacific to sign up and receive a unique presale code for this once in a lifetime event. Roll Call memberships will then remain unavailable until the presale event has concluded on Thursday May 2nd at 8pm."
Nice to know why they took it down. Although with tenacious plastered all over the Dylan site, it hasn't even been necessary to be a roll call member for this sale.

Hey man did you renew or just buy a new membership for 13? If you did renew, how'd you go about that? The only thing I can find is going through the store and buying a new membership.

Well sure enough, just as I start bitching about it, grounctrl heard my wailing through the ether and I came home to a sweet Status Serigraph on my doorstep! Very shiny, sparkly, and awesome.

Am I missing something? I can't find a "new membership" or "renew membership" anywhere in the store. I see plenty of shirts, posters, etc so I'm not that far off. Can someone tell me where this option is hiding in the store. This "system" is difficult.

They're listed under the Roll Call tab, not the store. When you buy a new membership, your current expiration date is extended by one year.

Good job John. You're right it's under the RC tab. I was putzing around the site before, and thought I saw it in the store, but it was definitely in the RC section.

Why do I get a strange feeling that the $30 extra I just paid for the early entry laminate won't get much use in the next 365 days?
Pearl Jam does tiered membership right, MMJ is doing it wrong. The option to pay more money and get physical goods is one thing. But you shouldn't have to pay more for an extra membership perk. Every member should be able to get in early.

i agree, but i guess its because its a physical object, and shipping it would defeat the purpose of an online membership, or whatever.

I received my laminate about a week or two after buying the membership, and the poster about a week after that. So, it wasn't an awful wait. Still waiting on the code for a live show download though.
Mr. White - I'm guessing it will be a show of our choice.
Like someone said, I don't think the laminate will be of much use but I sprung for the full package based solely on the end of the year "7 vinyl.
I got the UPS tracking # and yesterday I got the laminate, but not the poster. Hopefully that is coming soon.
I got my package(s) today, the laminate is basically the exact same as last year except the background is red...I haven't cracked open the poster yet.
Got mine last week. Yay!
