I don't know of anything, but I really wish they would play the KFC center like they did a few years ago on Halloween
The Halloween show in Louisville was a lot of fun. Last year's NYE show in Boston was good, but not great, mostly because of the venue. The encore, though, was awesome.

I'm bummed cause I missed the KFC show. I thought about going, but then decided not to.
I wish I had gone
seeing that they are supposed to be recording at the end of the year, there wouldnt be any shows... buuuuuuuut hoping to some pre-OBH warm up shows.

Halloween show in Louisville, KY at KFC was my first time in Louisville,KY. I worked until 11am in Chicago....jumped in my car and drove down. It was so much fun! I dragged some friends to Forecastle last year to see MMJ and they loved Louisville!
Louisville or Chicago for NYE would be an early Christmas present!

this!
I had a thought the other day.. Maybe they are going to wait until OBH sells out and then drop some end of the year dates. I doubt we'll get another 3 night run, but it wouldn't be out of the question i don't think.
3 night run at the palace theatre, between xmas, and nye!

I like the way you think. Louisville deserves this, IMO.
I like that. Not necessarily central to everyone but better than being on one coast if there is no corresponding run for the other coast. Let's make it a 4 night run.
whats more central than Louisville? St. Louis? I don't think there is a place in the US that is central to everyone. The reason they played Boston last year is smart, IMO. Its easier to travel to for the most possible people. With in driving distance of Louisville is Nashville, Atlanta, Memphis, Cincinatti, Indianapolis, Chicago, St. Louis, and Columbus (off the top of my head). Thats a ton of markets they could appeal to for a NYE run.
At the same time, I don't see why they would play an NYE show this year.
I was at The Capitol in Port Chester earlier this year and a awesome Manager who shall remain nameless swore MMJ loves the place and would be coming for a multi-night run over new years.
Im skeptical, but hopeful. That place is one of the sweetest buildings ive been in.

I guess when you are thinking about markets and not geography, Louisville is pretty damn central. After Forcastle, i would have no qualms about making that drive from Wisconsin. Loved the city, loved everything about that trip.

Hmmmm, when did they announce the first Port Chester run? According to multiple websites (consequence of sound, glide magazine), it was September 10th last year. Perhaps my thought about waiting until One Big Holliday sells out to announce an end of the year run will prove accurate.
Is a multi-night run at Portchester going to turn into a yearly tradition?

so let's just say that I said exactly what he said, only I said "over Christmas" instead of "over new years." Would we be 'burning up'? Or is it the venue that needs adjusting?
I think they should do something like last year, but w/ 3 nights at the Ryman followed by NYE at KFC.
Port Chester would be my pick again. It was perfect.

I've never been to Red Rocks, and it's tough to compare a 10,000+ amphitheatre to a tiny theatre. I imagine for visual spectacle, RR wholeheartedly trumps the Cap. HOWEVER, what I DO know, is that the intimacy, sightlines, sound, mystique and generally awesome layout of the Capitol will not be trumped by any sub-2000 capacity venue in the nation.

No, and it's not even close. That's not a dig on the Capitol Theater at all, it just means that RR was truly amazing. Truly, truly, the most amazing experience that I have ever had... musically.

I personally would go with Red Rocks myself, but I totally agree that the Capitol is better than any sub-2000 capacity venue in the nation, at least that I've been to. Red Rocks just has this power to it, but so does the Capitol and these are the sites of my favorite shows. Mexico just might change my mind though, jaja!

Burning up people, burning up. i think things are in flux right now due to unknown timing of studio work, getting new songs road-ready, and the fact that OBH would leave just a few weeks to transition into another run. There is also the possibility of an album dropping in the middle of all this - all amidst the holiday season with guys wanting to see families etc. If I were to guess, there will be a late December run in PC (2 or 3 nights?) that will allow the boys to work on arrangements for new material and get the motors running for MX.
This is all just 100% conjecture of course ;)

Right there with you! Cap and RR are apples/oranges as venues but last summer's RR run is some of the best shit I've seen from any band anywhere. Time machine please!
I think if MMJ is recording the new album in Louisville, KY (I don't know this) then a three day run in Louisville, KY would make sense. But I guess the same can be said for anywhere they might be recording the new album.

I loved Red Rocks! It was spiritual, beautiful and an experience like no other. It's a completely different experience than seeing them at The Cap. However, those Port Chester shows had more audience interaction and it felt like we were in their living room watching them play (if they're living room was a gorgeous old theater). I enjoyed pretty much everything about both shows and I'm glad I went to both, but Port Chester was tops for me. Keep in mind, I'm including what we did when we weren't at the show as well. (For the record, I never saw a butt being chugged, although I did overhear one)

Agreed - the Palace with a GA floor would be incredible!
Have we confirmed a show in Portchester or what?
No. We're just wishful thinking.
A PC Run in January would be nice as my vacation time will be reset then... Right now I am trying to conserve my time off just in case... but it is becoming harder and harder...
If they do a PC run again maybe I would join the GA crowd for a show!
But I couldn't beat the reserved seats I had last year in the loge, might not have had the energy but the sound was pristine and I was able to soak in the whole stage and the visuals they shot all over the venue. Hell of a 3 night run!!!
I wonder if the hotel will let us all back after last year???
Out of curiosity..
What row were you in in the loge?
Were people mostly sitting, or standing? mix of both?
Were those tickets hard to get?
My girlfriend is very short, so we went for the rail every time last year but personally I like to be at least 10 rows back to get the sort of experience you are talking about. The balcony seems like the way to go but for PC i wasn't taking any chances.
The next time I go to The Cap, I definitely want to do a night in the loge just for the projections. Totally missed out on most of that experience in the pit.

I had first row the first two nights off to the left and had 2nd row for the 3rd night dead center. I think going for single tickets helped me for those. There was a mix of sitting and standing depending what song they were playing. I do remember the balcony bouncing on the 3rd night, that freaked me out at first but I must have gotten used to it because I didn't notice it the rest of the night.

I don't think anyone was suggesting Red Rocks for NYE, just comparing it with The Cap as their favorite venues, and MMJ shows.
I guess I'm one of the few that preferred Port Chester to Red Rocks, as much as I enjoyed both performances. (To be clear, I did not see MMJ during their two-night stand at RR. It was another gig - with The Black Keys opening, if I recall correctly.) And Boston NYE was entertaining, but paled in comparison to what I'd just seen.
I may be MX bound, but another run in PC would be hard to resist. I just need enough notice to get a second job... :cheesy:

Yup. 2011 RR was great, and 2012 was beyond amazing.... But for some reason those PC shows were just the best time I've had at any MMJ extravaganzas.

I had lodge for night 2 and GA for nights 1 and 3. I loved all three nights and shows. Night 1 I couldn't get there early and was by the soundboard. Night 3 I got there early, hung out with great Forum folks and was right by the rail.
Being in the Lodge was different and pretty much just as great (exception being the lack of camaraderie and fun factor of being with Forum die hards for hours before and during the show). The sound was incredible upstairs! The views were great. And seeing the crowd below and the images above and to all sides was spectacular. I got Lodge thru Roll Call. If they do another run like that I would go early one night to be up close and hang out. And soak it all in from the Lodge on another night. Here's hoping that actually occurs.
The visuals they did at the Cap were amazing. I was GA all 3 nites near the soundboard. Just dont forget to look up and around if you dont do the lodge/balcony
whatever it is...if anything...we will know very soon. this time last year was about the time we found out...i'm doing my best to get a confirmation early like i did last year so that I know what to do for my holiday schedule....last year i was in the right place and right time with the right person that I happened to have much more in common with than I initially thought and happened to ask the right question...so luckily I knew early and could go ahead and submit my schedule...since the band isn't touring right now that's gonna be a lot harder to pull off
I expect a deluge of music-related announcements (both album releases and fall/winter tour dates) over the next few weeks, now that the summer is unofficially over. I have my fingers crossed that a MMJ Cap residency is part of that, and have budgeted accordingly.

Well, Bridge School is one date, let's end the week on a high note by rolling out the rest, boys!
The album coming out Winter/early Spring would surprise me a great deal. Interviews earlier in the year estimated a Summer 14 release. That was still when they were planning on taking the Summer completely off, before Americanarama happened.
That Jimmy Kimmel performance does seem weird though considering they have nothing but OBH to promote right now. An album announcement or tour announcement would make that make more sense.
Also insert obligatory T5 box possibility here

it was exactly a year ago today that the Port Chester announcement went out so if they are going to do it again, i would imagine the announcement would be very soon.

Pooch is the bear who is always onstage with them. His significant other is Denise. I'm not sure if they are married, living together, or in an open relationship. They used to help deliver the setlists back when mmjsweetpickles was a still an active tumblr. They are on the roll call laminate, the roll call shirts, and last year's roll call poster.

You know, they are taking so long to announce/make up their minds on this that people I know would have been on board with this have already begun making other plans. It's hard to get time off from work for some of us and with OBH already taxing many people's bank accounts, people need plenty of notice to plan out how they are going to do this. We aren't all independently wealthy. It's time to confirm this.

It's unfortunate that they haven't made up their minds or decided on a venue yet, or just haven't announced anything period. That being said, they are still a band not a catering company! I think it's safe to say they will be playing New Years and most likely pre New Years given Pooch's newfound seasonal work. So the only question left is, where will it be? Russo's Almost Dead Band announcing Port Chester just makes it more intriguing should they choose Port Chester again (fingers crossed).
Let's not knot tie our pants on too tightly!
Hey Y'all, Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but my source says that they will not be playing Port Chester and will be taking time off during the holidays. They were offered a multi-night run, but turned it down. They will be recording in October and November and will take a much deserved break.

Unfortunate....but then why would they tease tweet pooch in his Xmas garb? Because he going into the studio for the holidays? Unfounded or not, I'm still holding out hope!

Yeah, maybe another Christmas album!? haha. Or maybe Pooch got a job as a mall santa since he's not gonna be on tour and needs to make some extra cash?

Confirming
Best case scenario is a couple of KY shows to sort out arrangements for new material.
These guys deserve a break
Well then....my soul is crushed.
Nooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!
(I was hoping that three Cap shows would take the self-imposed pressure of going to Mexico - - now, Mexico must get done.)

Are you talking about a Cap run, NYE, both, or any shows at all before the year is out?

Talking to Patrick (my source  ) it definitely seemed like they are just going to take the time off.

Well, if they have hope, we all do!
I've got no problems making a trip to L'Ville again as long as I have some notice. I could use another slice of the Galt's Derby Pie, and some great late night get togethers in the conservatory.

when I saw patrick was doing that pancake thing, I was hoping someone would corner him and bombard with questions. I sure would have.
i still have a little bit of hope for pre-mexico warm up shows.
Now I can start planning for my remaining vacation time... Would have been cool, but maybe another year... Spring 2014 would be a nice time to visit Port Chester... The GA folks wouldn't have to freeze their tushes waiting for the rail!!

Well this is not what I wanted to hear. I guess I will have to start hoping for next year. Listening to Clapton's Crossroads Festival DVD from a few years ago deep in the Maine woods to ease the pain.

just our minds until it comes to fruition and its announced.
I wonder if the OBH contract included something about no NYE shows. Furthur and MMJ are notorious NYE acts, both are doing this Mexico in January thing, and neither has announced a show, perhaps adding to the appeal of January in Mexico, which I sadly cannot make! Like everyone, looking forward to a new album. Glad we did Boston last year. And Americanarama too.
bit of a bummer but i'm excited out them spending a couple months in the studio. I would love another late spring/summer release this year

I think if they had sold out OBH in short order we would be looking at some shows leading up to it. That would have been nice.
