I'm signed up and sure hope Kentucky makes it to the final game on April 6th. I'll gladly watch the game delayed on my DVR if I get picket to attend this once (really twice) in a lifetime opportunity. I know Jim and Patrick (and probably Tom as well) will be cheering on UK, since Louisville is out of it. Maybe they will have completed the Waterfall show in time to invite all the Roll Call members present to watch the game with them at a local pub...just wishing...
I'd be down for a NCAA NC viewing party with pre/post game and/or halftime entertainment...
I'm on spring break next week. I've got all the time in the world to hang in Louisville for this.
guess if I joined the roll call now it'd be too late?

Yes, I'll partner up.
I have no real facts on this, but I suspect that the winners are culled mostly locally. Of the roll call winners that were at the sonos event, which there were 7 total, I met, knew of spoke to 4, 3 of which were from CA, the other are some folks that flew out from Chicago for the event. That could easily just be the result of just more CA folks actually entered due to logistics, or that out of state winners mostly declined when contacted...who knows.

I hope all the local fans around these parts win who frequent the Forum!
I didn't enter the California contest, since I can't afford to take off work or buy a plane ticket. I just hope the people who enter this Louisville contest are local (or are willing to fly/drive in to make it). It would be rotten for some fans to enter, win, and decide it wasn't worth the time and effort...
That being said...GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!
Yes, please don't enter unless you're reasonably certain you can attend. Please.

i'll third that sentiment. i was lucky enough to win tix to see jim play his solo album at the basement in nashville. never would have entered that one if i wasn't sure i could be there. it would suck to have such precious tickets wasted.

Seriously.
For real same here
Happy for the hometown fans! Good luck!
I'm not entering the contest, but I was (and still am) confused over this "make sure your information is in your profile" stuff. As far as I can tell, our profile is public, and there's no way in hell I'm putting my email or phone number there. I have my billing and shipping address filled out, so is that enough for people to enter contests?

This info is under "Billing & Shipping Info" under the Dashboard, right? Because there's a "View My Profile" and also just a "Profile" under the Dashboard, too. Those two links go to different places.
"View My Profile" is what I was talking about that appears to be public.
"Profile" has a section for Personal Information, but nothing clearly labeled for phone number or email address.
It's all so confusing.
Having been lucky enough to score some very hard to get tickets on the upcoming tour, im going to sit this one out and hope that some of you guys get lucky.
I really like this, btw. First the listening party and now two rehearsal shows? Despite ground control's missteps, you cant deny the fact that the band is really trying to do great things for some of their most loyal fans. Cheers to Jim and the gang.
I also really like how they are springing this on us at the last minute. This way there is no waiting, and ill look forward to the reports almost as much as i would have looked forward to actually being there.
Looks like final tally is 330 entries for Monday and 304 for Tuesday. Good luck everyone!
Agreed! This is a fantastic idea! Although I sincerely hope to be driving madly towards Louisville on Monday night, I wish all Roll Callers the best of luck! :cheesy:
You think they will actually stick to playing only new songs? I know that's what it says, but I wouldn't put it past them to play a couple old ones.
Good luck to us all!
When do you think they will announce?? Good luck to all.

I agree. We have no way of knowing if these rehearsal shows were planned way in advance or not, but I'll choose to believe it was a generous and creative way to give a litlte something back to Roll Call for all the hassles lately.

Staying downtown allows you to walk to bars and restaurants but the rumored location for the show is not walking distance from any hotel really ... if you don't want to drive though it's super easy to get an Uber or Lyft in Louisville. The downtown Courtyard has decent prices and parking garage.
If you want to stay somewhere a little cheaper than Downtown then try hotels near the airport or about 7 more miles down the interstate on Hurstbourne there is a Hyatt Place, Marriott, and Courtyard etc.
Lots of amazing places to eat both downtown and in the Highlands and Clifton neighborhoods!
Struck out on Tuesday's lottery. Any extra +1s floating about? I will make the drive!
Scored tickets for Tuesday!
We're heading down from Chicago on Monday night! Where's the party at!?
Congrats to all who are going!
Really great the band has decided to do this, and can't wait to hear all of your thoughts on how the album sounds live.
This is a pretty amazing gesture by the band. Congrats to all who won!

Thanks for the encouragement Waddy Peytona. I'm sitting here at home staring at my computer unexpectedly today due to flooding in parts of Louisville (workplace shut down - Spring Break starts one day early). Maybe I'll have some luck later on. I thought I was due since I didn't win a ticket to Jim's solo show at The Basement down in Nashville two years ago. There was about the same chance I would get picked for that show but didn't. Anyway, glad to see several Forum members did get picked. There will probably be more posting the good news as the day progresses.
I feel for you. With such good odds, and you living in town, its a tough pill. I'll be hoping you get a late notification.
No email here.
Finger in the air for your +1 either night.
I got the golden ticket for Monday and I'm feelin' lucky and grateful.
I scored for Monday - staying at the Galt House Mon and Tues Nights - they have super cheap rooms - we got a Suite for 1/2 price.
So psyched!!!
Wow, only 300 entered? You gotta figure most people entered for both nights. Thats crazy odds. I decided not to enter based on the fact that they were only going to play the waterfall songs and I've already got tickets for so many shows this tour, as cool as this is going to be. just didn't want to overdo it. however if they play even 1 rare song as an encore ill instantly regret my decision.
Any idea what time the Monday show might take place? I'm wanting to work in the morning and then drive two hours to Louisville. I wish they would give us the details later today to let us work around our work schedules!
Would any Mon night ticket winners want to switch for Tues? I'm not sure they'll even let us do this, but worth a shot. I could do either night, but Mon would work out much better w/ my schedule...

One rare song? This whole show is rare, as rare as it gets. MMJ with less than 100 people. I would have given up the whole tour for this one opportunity. That's just me though. I'm in Monday, Can't wait!

I'm thinking, for some reason, they aren't wanting anyone to know too soon. I'm starting to wonder if it may be a more private venue other than your standard music hall or theater.

I agree this show will be super amazing with such a small group of people. And everyone there loves the band. No casual fans (not that there is anything wrong with casual fans, but it just adds to the experience!).
I imagine there will be quite a bit more than the 120 roll callers/roll call guests each night. I suspect an audience of at least twice that much. You have to think friends, families, music execs and other industry folks will be there too. Same deal with the Sonos Studio, 7 roll callers plus their guests, and there was probably 50-70 people in attendance.
Congrats to the lucky ones, should be amazing.
Congrats on all who were chosen! This sounds like a really unique and memorable experience. Not knowing the details (time, place) I decided not to enter not knowing when on Monday or Tuesday I would have to leave to make the 5 hour drive from Chicago.
Love that the band is doing things like this and the album listening party. Looking forward to any other contests they may run!

No one has received a confirmation email yet. Fingers crossed that WU do good this time around.
I don't expect any confirmation until well after 4pm EST when the lists are locked down - I suspect they'll confirm after that and then a follow up message on Monday morning telling us time and place

It's definitely a rare opportunity, that's for sure! However, as someone who has been to somewhere around 30+ shows since 2008 i've learned that even the best things can get a little stale if you over do it. I don't even want to tell you how many shows i've already bought tickets to on this tour. The main reason, though.. is that after lucking out and getting tickets to Athens, and after putting that show on such a high pedestal in my mind in terms of anticipation (although larger, still a very intimate event), i just don't want to do anything to make that night any less special.....especially considering the fact that I'm driving down from Wisconsin for it
i'm very happy for you guys, though. i'm so glad that so many forum people got in on this. it really adds to the community that we have established here. i'm sure that only amazing memories will remain when all is said and done and we here back at the base look forward to your reports.

I'm going Tuesday with another roll caller who won Tuesday, but I won tix myself for Monday that I will be giving up. No way of going 2 nights - So I guess, after 4:00 pm today, someone else will get notified about winning.
Good Luck!

I've been wondering the same. If they aren't informing us until Monday, then it has to be in the evening. We should be good.
Think they will play the album front to back, or mix the tunes around? I know they said no older songs, but maybe we will get lucky for an encore?
It should be album front to back with mini encore judging from previous recordings.
I'm bummed I missed the selection. If anyone got the golden ticket and is heading from St. Louis and needs a Roll Call buddy I'm all for it! I'm off M-W and thought for sure I would get picked aww so bummed! Anyway this is my last chance effort. STL to Kentucky. Got new tires on my ride as well!

Monday may very well be the most depressing day of my life.
1. My favorite band is playing in the town I reside in, and I wasn't selected.
2. Kentucky will most likely be 40-0 and national champions.
Gross.
It will be OK. I survived not going to either obh and TN wins sports stuff sometimes. Just do what I always do: have a good sobbing cry and masterbate furiously to I Think I'm Going To Hell then comfort yourself by stuffing yourself with lots of chocolate covered pretzels from Trader Joe's afterwards.

I'm counting on Kentucky beating Wisconsin and if that's the case, then Kentucky will make it to the finals on Monday night. So then my guess is they will work around the game!
Guess you don't have to worry about a conflict with the game anymore
Go Badgers!
after last night, kaminsky and co. will always have a special place in my heart.
now go beat duke!
Anyone out there have a +1 to spare for the Tuesday show?

I'm going Tuesday with another roll caller who won Tuesday, but I won tix myself for Monday that I will be giving up. No way of going 2 nights - So I guess, after 4:00 pm today, someone else will get notified about winning.
Good Luck!
I got a phone call Fri at 4:30, I think I got your tix, thanks! Finally got a confirmation email too. Also, my +1 dropped out, I am willing to give my extra ticket (Mon night) to another MMJ fan. Any suggestions? Long time fan who deserves a special show? I'll be arriving in L-ville a couple hours before showtime for bourbon time, we can meet up preshow or at the venue. No bad vibes, etc  I'll check back later..

I presume everyone is still in the dark about time/location?

Hello, I have a plus one up in the air for Monday. Will be in town early PM. Leaving back to Chicago right after the show unless someone has a sofa / spare room. I am new to these boards so I am not sure how this will all work out but I guess let me know if anyone is in need. I still have some friends trying to sort out work.

I second Everything Changes. Mr. White should DEFINATELY be in attendance! Don't know him personally, but from the boards I know he's local, hardcore fan, and is from all posts I've read, a solid person.
Also I don't see the Dedicated Johnny Yac on this thread. If I had an extra...He would be a person a spare should be offered to. I don't know if he can make it... But he's all up in this piece! Hope you make it to one of em Yac !

Thanks for the thoughts everybody! I am happy to say that a Forum member did reach out to me, and I will be going! Thanks again for the considerations! With the last minuteness of all this, I'll bet there will end up being more than one person (each night) who couldn't find a guest for their +1 (especially for those traveling long distances). I'm lucky that I live less than an hour from downtown Louisville, and I have the whole week off from work! Just keep posting and looking for hook-ups for this! I can't even sleep, I'm so worked up for this event!

Anybody have any idea of where in the city I should be trying to get a hotel room for tomorrow night?
Anyone still in need of a plus 1! I am dying to get into this and missed the cut! Bourbon on me! plus I will throw in my unopened copy of Celebración de la Ciudad Natal to commemorate the occasion! :cheesy:
I should mention Tuesday not Mon. I have to drive into town first
I just got on priceline, requested three and a half star hotel downtown and got a room at the Galt for $90, if that helps.

If someone could PM me with the start time too I'd really appreciate it. I have to drive from memphis and I want to make sure I leave early enough to get to Louisville before it starts.
Fishing for a spare Tuesday +1... Bueller?

No offense but WHAT?
Was it a crime to post about T5, Red Rocks,Under The Overpass or any other special MMJ show/event? Why should this be any different?
I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting to hear all about it.
So how was it?!? Driving in first thing in the AM thanks to fellow roll caller. Boy I Was ready for Spring!! :cheesy:
Show was great! First set was the new album front to back. You can tell they are still getting the feel for those songs (they seemed more into the encore). Only Memories, Get The Point, Tropics, and Waterfall are my first listen favorites. Waterfall has some really funky keyboard work done by Bo!
Jim talked about going to the venue that shall remain unnamed hundreds of times growing up. His first show there was Wilco Being There tour. He was kicked out after the third song for some bad behavior haha. He also asked the crowd if Bo and Carl had played there before because they couldn't remember. The crowd said no.
Patrick's dad was there. I also walked pass Dave Givans.
Encore:
Bermuda (solo)
Carried Away
Masterplan (best version I've heard)
Down on the Bottom
Thanks for the info. Curious if they had their regular light rigs in effect or was it more of a rehearsal atmosphere?
Not that I have a ton to compare to but yes.
"Masterplan (best version I've heard)"
Congrats to all who got in. Thx for the report!!!!

Seemed more rehearsal.
Ahhh, another Down on the Bottom sighting! Here's the question. Are they working this song out so that they can use it a bunch on the tour? Or are they simply treating you guys due to the specialness of the event?
Love that song, hoping it's the former.
awesome! can't wait. carried away?!?! so cool
Thanks for the early report, I'm so excited to not only hear the new music but to hear it live!
Was "Only Memories" a longer jam like at OBH2?
And count me in as hoping "Down on the Bottom" is in rotation this tour.

There was a bit of sarcasm in there. Didn't know what would be acceptable to post since it was "super secret." They did jam out on only memories a touch but other than that, thought they didn't waste any time. It seemed like they played the tunes fairly close to what it will be on the album.
My favorite new song of the night was Tropics and I can envision them extending that one out like easy morning rebel, where you think the song is ending only to rip out another riff. Carl was going crazy on Masterplan as always.
Crowd was a bit bigger than most expected and was probably around 400???

I got there about 10 minutes before the doors opened and was about 20th in line. They were fairly quick getting folks in. Was easy to walk right up to the rail.
What time did the show start last night?
was alcohol served? (I know I have messed up priorities)
is the venue supposed to be a secret? MMJ's Twitter feed just gave it away if it was. It rhymes with Red Diners.

Last night was incredible. Special shows like this are why I love this band, plus the new album sounds great live. Off the top of my head I think waterfall, believe and tropics were my favorites out of the songs we haven't heard yet. Everybody enjoy the show tonight!!!

However now my gf has the day off and wants to witness the spectacle as well. Sooo anyone want to allow my girlfriend to be they're plus 1. It's only for 1 night  We will be in town around 3 or 4 today. Let me know!
Not sure of the exact start time, there were enough warnings about cell phone usage I didn't even want to pull it out to check the time. Fantastic show though, great vibes, $10 posters!! You can hit the "smoking/cell area" outside, drop the poster off to the car and re-enter in front door. Don't miss it!!
posters! :cheesy: need tubeski now
Its a good thing we mods can't break that code your using... :drum:
As soon as they announced this I had a feeling they would have it where they are having it.
I sure would love to go tonight! Anyone, anyone have a ticket for tonight? I have a lot on my plate right now and can't risk taking the time to not get in! I'm not above begging!
Well, that was a really special show for sure. We waltzed in at shmate-thrifty and walked right to the front, stage left. Major feels and goosebumps at multiple points.
When the boom of the drums kicked in on Believe, my whole body got goosbumpy. The harmonies on Like a River gave me chills. The Waterfall is a contender for one of my favorite Jacket songs already. Just outstanding. The howls during Spring were spot on. The jammed out ending for Only Memories Remain was Dondante-esque. Master Plan was given a treatment I've never seen before. Lots of soloing.
I've never been to a show at this venue and I thought it was bigger than it is. When we got to the box office and saw the capacity is 650 or so, man, that was an awesome feeling. $10 screen prints were a major bonus. The lighting was minimal (house lighting I assume), and no backdrop or anything. No drum riser. While I never saw MMJ play this venue before, I did get to see them in several clubs over the years and I never really thought I'd have that opportunity again. Quite a treat.
One last note, the typical jerk-offs who can't keep their mouths shut for 20 minutes at a time were present as well. When Jim started Get the Point on acoustic, a nice tender quiet moment, I got to hear all about the girl behind me and her tire and work problems. It is mind-blowing that you can get into a show like this that some people would give a whole lot for the opportunity to attend, and act like that. The lack of phones in the air was refreshing as usual.
I'm really looking forward to hearing what the show tonight is like. Ya'll are in for a real treat whatever happens.
Big Question: the previous poster touched on it but was Jim actually howling for Spring or did they have some or all of the howls pre-recorded? I think the very beginning and ending are the parts im most interested in. Thanks!
The "howls" were real. Both Jim and Carl were doing them. Edit: At the end, it was Carl "howling" and Jim was harmonizing over the top of that. Very nice.
Can someone post a picture of the poster?

It's possible that did occur, but some stuff got lost in the mix. I was able to see and hear Jim and Carl doing it though.
Someone's bound to beat me to it, but I can have a photo of the poster up in a few hours when I return from work.
I thought the howls were on a loop. I'm pretty sure I remember them going before Jim went to the mic?
The poster is nothing special. It was white with black lines running downwards like a waterfall. I almost bought one, but I'm getting the two Cbus posters instead.
The show was very special and it has only made me more excited for the summer.
Down on the Bottom will most definitely be in rotation methinks.
Bermuda Highway was worth the trip alone.

Just check with Madpixel. I bought one on the way out last night and it's 198/350. I estimated the attendance was 250-300 people, so there are probably extras.

Thank you Al! and thank you Craig! it was a pleasure and a honor to attend such a special evening!
These new songs are definitely going to work well with the rest of the catalogue. When I first heard Believe I thought it sucked ass, but after a couple more listens I changed my mind about it to the point where it was stuck in my head. Then gearing it played live was like whoa....... It was so great to get this experience! Thanks band for letting us come watch you rehearse these songs, thanks for putting so much into the encore, and thanks ultravisitor, for letting me be your plus one. I hope you had as good a time as I had.
Last night was a truly magical experience. My heartfelt thanks to Timescaper and Chap for making it happen for me. Let me know how those Wisconsin beers treat ya!

Wait! You're the guy in the gray shirt we hung out with at the monkey wrench? I didn't realize I was meeting Woldie!

I was hoping for Steam Engine and got it. Was incredible.
New album is 100 times better live. Honest Man was best I've ever heard!
So glad my best friend and I got to stand behind you! Also incredibly glad we got to hear Steam Engine together! Your positive energy definitely manifested that song. Amazing show.
Were you the one who said they would cry if they played Steam? :)
Did that really happen last night? :cheesy: ears ringing! ready for tour!

Dang, apparently I should have rode down with you!
And I should have just showed up and hoped someone would let me in with them.
I live 10-15 minutes from Headliners.

Rocking out and watching the joy on your friends face as well as yours was pretty awesome, Olivia. Glad to have shared the show with you!
Thanks to everyone for the reviews and post show chatter... So glad that so many great people were able to anchor those shows. Friends and family indeed!
All the more excited for the GATH and ensuing tour... Can't wait to hear that Tropics drop right before a giant Cobra

Glad you made it in Woldie.
So the new jacket is officially his new tour duds. I can't imagine wearing that thing in the sunshine swampiness at bonnaroo and other sticky, hot outdoor shows this summer.

that never stopped him before: (http://i1.wp.com/assets.rollingstone.com/assets/images/story/my-morning-jacket-go-big-at-chicago-show-20110618/1000x294/main.jpg?resize=294%2C294)
Great encores! I really hope that this is a sign that they have decided to implement some of these songs (down on the bottom, honest man, master plan specifically) as staples in the upcoming tour. Some of the usual suspects could really use a break and this is the perfect opportunity to do that.
Very excited that the new jacket appears to be here to stay. Looking at it now it sort of resembles the color scheme and overall feel of the new album cover.

No, I was the one at The Monkey Wrench who gave you a ride to the show in his 2-seater!
I have already posted this in the "Show Posters" thread, so please forgive the transgression, but if anyone has a spare print from Night #1, please message me!
I think "Thin Lines" has the potential to be a monster live. The guitar solo near the end is some of the best jacket riffs I've heard in a while. I just want them to extend it a good 10 minutes. They could take that solo to some pretty fucking rocking goddamn motherfucking badass places maaaaan! That's just like my opinion though.

Even better! Maybe you told me your forum name, but it obviously didn't register. It was lots of fun hanging out with you, particularly when we were waiting in line for our ticket holders ^-^

Don't you really mean that's your badass mutherfucking opinion, goddammit? :P
You know, I'm sure I met some of you last night at the Monkey Wrench and in Brad's (?) car on the way to the show. (I'm the English teacher from Chicago.) Anyway, I had a great time actually meeting people from these boards for once. Glad we were all able to have a good time.
Only Memories Remain will be MMJ legacy material. Steam Engine...Dondante...Memories,....

FUCKIN A!!!!!
I couldn't stop listening to the live version from OBH, then when the album "dropped from the sky" i havent been able to stop listening to it. Jim's voice is so dexterous, so bendable and flexible. He's got a magical voice...fuck anyone who disagrees...this is OUR band guys AND THEYRE BACK!!!!!! Woulda given anything (short of my beautiful lady, my awesome little dog Rivers, and my guitars and pedals) to hang out with people from this board WHILE SEEING A MMJ SECRET SHOW!!!!
You guys were in dreamland the last two nights!!!
anyone of you guys who were at Headliners either Monday or Tuesday WAS ALSO LUCKY ENOUGH to see OBH in 2015??? Cause thats almost
too much Jacket Fever

Looks like y'all got a great show.
I'll have to wait to hear most of the new album but I love that "Down on the Bottom" was played, and to close things out no less. Of all the new songs in their live repertoire that I have heard enough of to form an opinion, this is my favorite. I hope I get it a few times this year.

Yes, OBH 2015er here and got to go Monday at Headliners. Counting the days until Knoxville...
For those interested in posters from the Louisville shows. http://www.madpixel.net/store/posters/ (http://www.madpixel.net/store/posters/) I unfortunately didn't get to go, but who doesn't want a matching set of MMJ posters for 30 bucks? The artist said of 10 of each were available and I picked up a set a few hours ago...
Really love those posters but ill restrain myself from purchasing one so that someone who was at the show can get one.

Thanks for the link. I had forgotten to look for the other poster.
these posters are sold out
I've spent the last day or so just absorbing the whole experience...and I think that a few themes have arisen:
1) Although there has been some criticism about the lyricism, I really feel like there is a mantra-like quality to the lyrical content and structure...and the performances support this...both at OBH and Headliners. And to some extent, I feel Jim's personal progression with meditation is prompting him to rely less on words, and instead to focus on a specific theme, until it synthesizes and becomes something much bigger...which is the essence of transcendental meditation. I don't know what song it was, but there was this tribal chanting/singing that Jim and Carl were doing that was just epic. I really loved hearing all of this with no idea what it was, or what it is called. It was truly an immersion in the beginner's mindset.
2) I feel like within the conflict of some of the break-up tunes, there is a real acceptance...a kind of emotional clarity that is so difficult to achieve...and perhaps shows some growth from the sentimentality of Evil Urges. In the same way that Bob Dylan wrote about so many different experiences in love...from Love Minus Zero/No Limit to Positively 4th Street to Visions of Johanna and Sara...I think this is the first extended exploration into the suffering created by conflict and attachment. Get the Point is so exacting. So direct. And it is beautiful because it is honest. How many of us wish we could be so truthful. And what I love about it, is that it lacks the drama and heartbreak of most break-up songs. It is just an acknowledgement of what is no longer serving, without hatred or longing. But Only Memories Remain is different. When they played it at OBH with that wind rolling in, I couldn't move. It had such a hallowed feeling. And I think that it captures the pain of being stuck in the past. It is as elusive and alluring as a Siren Song. It is illusory. I feel like on the right summer nights, that this one will be be particularly holy. I can hear strings on it. It needs Red Rocks. It will echo like Butch Cassidy...and get soaked in by those holy stones.
3) This is a completely unique effort. I think it requires a kind of detachment from everything you think you know about the band. I think this album begs to be felt. It is asking to be lived...not isolated to a record player or an ipod...but mainlined into the bloodstream. I think that these songs will prove to be like a kind of nano-technology in the setlists...filling in the creative gaps...and I think that each member of the band is going to have wonderful opportunities for innovative expression.
4) The drum solo on Steam Engine and the bass jam on Honest Man were highlights of the night. They totally reinvigorated the old jams with some new soul. Just so goddamn joyful.
5) Thank you to the band and everyone here. Such a blessing to be a part of this beautiful little world.

This link was on the band's main page (near the bottom). It is the article The Rolling Stone magazine was working on about the two Louisville shows on Mon. & Tue.

Describing the album as "more ethereal" sounds good to me. More along the lines of "I Will Sing You Songs" is what I imagine that means. That sounds amazing.
I love that last quote (especially the last sentence) from Patrick. The band gets their fans and sounds very comfortable with themselves/career/music.
