So Evil Urges has, unfortunately, leaked.
This is the thread that will help the strong among us survive until June 10th.
We will not cave. We will wait to hear the full glory of Evil Urges until that beautiful disc is in our hands.
I'm waiting.
Well said MyLifeIs! :)
I'm only going to listen to tracks that have been officially released by the band (like Evil Urges the other day or new tracks on their myspace etc)
I wanted to wait & hear the whole thing the whole way through Madonna style (like a virgin) but I don't think I'm going to be able to do that...

Agreed. I will attempt to listen to only Touch Me pt. 2 and Evil Urges, which have been "officially" released/streamed.
This is my first true attempt to not listen to the songs before the release date, so we'll see how this goes... :-/
Stay strong Brother!!! Every time I get an 'evil urge' to download I'm just going to look @ some porn ;)
;D
And how do we even know that this leaked? Do we have any proof yet?

Parents are currently in the next room. Wouldn't be that great an idea to look at porn now. ;)
Can you describe us a track, KarateMonkey? How about Remnants?

Seriously, what are you doing?!! This is the Stay Strong Thread! Go & post your blasphemous words in the It Leaked thread!
well I could say(though doesn't really indicate anything) that they should play this song on SNL
I'm guessing the reason for the email the other day is they may have known this was about to happen. It's kind of frustrating they can't do a better job of keeping it locked up. I know it 's pretty much inevitable these days but almost two months away, come on. I guess it's the price you pay for the hype machine. If you want people to rave about it, ya gotta let em listen to it.
Looks like that storm BH was talking about the other day is starting to make landfall.
Well, it wasn't expected to leak until the first week of May... but you're right, it's no coincidence that we got the e-mail when we did - the management knew this was coming. Advanced copies have been reviewed by the media, friends and family, and sent out to a handful of us for Listening Parties - the band and staff have been in the business long enough to know someone in that circle will abuse the privilege.
Don't worry, guys... the Listening Parties are coming up really soon...
8-)
stay strong, y'all

Okay, I just needed a few Evil Urges of mine fufilled. No hard feelings, DB. ;)
It looks like friends of ours are falling by the wayside. :-/
I told myself i wasnt going to hear ONE SECOND of this album until the 10th of June. I failed myself when "dont touch pt. 2" came along. and also when Evil Urges was introduced. But i am done. Officially. I have to be. I think those two were enough to way me over until June 10. We have SNL to look forward to. And then after that its only one more month.
STAY STRONG.

;D
I'm on board staying strong. Really, May 10th will be here soon enough and that will the real shit storm!!
They are already snapping this up over on the PJ Board.
I hope they (the band) pull a Raconteurs and go ahead and get this record out. From what I'm hearing the rip is only 128kb - That should make it a bit more easy for those of you holding out.
please someone tell me not to do this. i'm weak, i need support. i have it downloaded, but i haven't clicked play yet. help!!! i'll give it 5 minutes
Walter, my man, for the love of beezus Don't do it. We will have sweet dreams! ;D ;)
nooooooooooo! i didn't want support. there goes my perfect night i had planned.

I may have just relapsed. I did stare at the site for an hour contemplating it if it is any consolation.
i was lucky enough to catch the houston show, but damn i'm itchin for the rest!!!
I'm not gonna listen until June 10. I just hope I can survive...
Man this sucks. 50 days! I don't understand this process. Someone please explain it to me. How can the album not be ready? Does it take 2 months to manufacture and distribute? Uhhhhhhgggggg!!!!!
I am holding strong. I will wait until June 10th. Or at least until I get my listening party package. I may have to leave the forum for a couple weeks to help me.
i'm staying strong only because I have no idea where to download it at and no interest in searching.
as Outkast says:
"hold on , be strong
take off your thong
cmon
this is how we sing the song
sing along"
come on folks. for those of us that are showing some sort of restraint just keep repeating it
hold on..... be strong..... take off your thong... cmon..... hold on..... be strong..... take off your thong... CMON!
June 10th or my listening party, whichever comes first!

nothing for me yet, and nothing for a while from the Buddy Sytem thingamuhbob. Peeps here in Boston are stoked for this album, holla back MMJ!
I'm managing to keep myself from slipping to the dark side. We're in this together!
I'm really not trying to get on my soapbox. I'm not even going to touch it until it officialy comes out. I'm just kinda irritated by all the people coming out of the woodwork and gimme gimme gimme. For fuck sake, wait 2 months like the rest of the world. I'm with you on this Brad.
Plus all the people are slowing the site down.
you all have my support, and I believe in the cause 100%.

June 10th will bless us with its beautiful bounty before we know it. Besides when you are looking forward to something special the anticipation is part of the whole experience. I think anticipation if highly undderrated.
This has just become extremely hard.

Knowing its low bit-rate
does make it easier. I always said if this album leaked I would hold out. The e-mail said it all and I'll respect that but man, is this going to be TOUGH!
I know in the end it will pay off...Besides, a very good friend of mine is a newbie fan in the making and it's being released on his birthday. What a treat!
If you are going to be a douchesack and leak the album at least spring for the highest bitrate. >:(
Highly agreed.
I'm certain it's helped a few people make the decision not to download, though, knowing it's low-quality...

Obviously, it's not a requirement. However, if you care about the audio quality, it's good to know. I'm not trying to be a snob. I just find it ironic that one half of the music industry is pushing things like 5.1 audio, and high end audio systems, while the other half is pushing instant gratification, low quality, download now mp3s.
This place is looking like Gonzo Journalism Amateur Night with all of the wanna-be music journalists.
Stay strong people! To sort of put things into perspective here, the single that MMJ e-mailed us, and gave us permission to listen to, is something like twice the size as the compressed version that has been distributed. That is significantly different... you will hear that difference.
This is why, in my most arrogant and high and holy opinion, I think our resident amatuer journalists look like total morons with their Evil Urges album reviews.
To me, it is the equivalent of downloading a Hong Kong subtitled bootleg of a DVD coming out in two months, and critiquing the picture quality of the film.

dude, get over yourself, seriously. people are just giving their opinions. i wonder if you would put everyone down as "wanna-be journalists" if they were raving about how much they love the record.
and do you seriously think that the bitrate is the reason people don't like it? the mp3 they let us download is a better bitrate than the leak but it's still not CD quality. so do you hate it? did you refuse to download? did you make fun of everyone who raved about it as being a wanna-be journalist?

I read that, Brad, thanks. I just don't agree with it. People judging how the music moves them is not the same thing as downloading a subtitled dvd... and judging the video quality. no one is knocking the album based on sound quality. so it's not the same. that's my point.
Again, I apologize.
i am weak. i need it. no. no. no!
so i started downloading......but i stopped halfway thru.....
i will stay strong....respect the band as they have respected us!
help me my brothers and sisters........!!!!!!!!!!
Hi all,
After the kind email I've received from the band, I am just not able to go and download the new record. I just can't do it.
That doesn't prevent me from hoping the record is going to kick everybody's ass.
Stay strong y'all, the reward will be great.
I was lucky enough to have missed the leak...and a part of me still wants to find it. But I am honestly surprised how weak some people are. MMJ has given us many of the songs through their live performances, and issued studio tracks. I guess their generosity isn't enough for some people. I will not listen to the new album until MMJ releases it. I feel sorry for those who have no self-control.

Count on it! :)
You know what? On Friday I travelled from Nashville to Columbus to see The Mars Volta. It was cancelled in January when I went. Ten minutes before the doors opened for this rescheduled show, they cancelled the show again. I got completely screwed by one of my favorite bands twice, and they didn't seem to care at all either time.
Saturday morning I got up early to try to figure out what the deal was with the cancellation and as I opened my inbox saw the email from MMJ. It made me feel like they actually care for us. And I care for them. My main reasoning for not downloading the leak is the "christmas morning" aspect. Nothing compares (for me at least) to the feeling you get trying to soak in all the new music and the artwork and the liner notes and everything else involved.
Seeing that email didn't convince me to NOT download it, but it made me feel good to know that they care about the fans enough to do something. It sucks knowing that all these people are going to be done with this album by the time it comes out for the rest of us, but that's not going to affect the way I feel when I have that vinyl and/or cd in my hands on June 10th.
I don't mind the downloaders, and like some others on here, I am totally grooving on the stuff MMJ decides should be heard beforehand. I did the same thing with Z and it worked out just fine for me.
So...ummm....I guess, early adopters enjoy your leak. I look forward to two months of blue balls with the rest of you guys in this thread. Haha.
(Sidenote: I've seen The Mars Volta 3 times since 2003, and since this year started I've tried to see them 3 more times and they were all cancelled. I've seen My Morning Jacket 15 times in that same time frame and they have never boned out on me. But I digress. Good day.)
thoughts on downloading the leak now.... and then promising yourself to buy the album & vinyl & seeing them live? As long as you keep the promise.
seems like a reasonable compromise between you and the band, if you are worried about ethics and guilt. It'll work as long as you keep the promise.
they should pull a Raconteurs and just release the damn thing next week.
is that a picture of celine dion up there holding that baby? that is kind of disturbing and kind of fixating. definitely distracting.
Yesterday on my way home I received a text from a friend saying that they sent me a very EVIL email with a very EVIL link.
I told them that it was very EVIL of them to tempt me, but out of respect for the band I was going to attempt the time-honored practice of patience.
I got home and the whole neighborhood had lost it's power. Sign? Perhaps....
It has been a full 24 hours now, full power restored and I am still ignoring the email. And tonight I have tickets to see The Raconteurs, so I will be busy once again.
I have every intention of using this as a practice in discipline. I can't blame people for downloading (shit, I may have heard a few albums before their release in my time). But this time, I am attempting to respect the fact that I have a bunch of songs to listen to from the SXSW show. Not too many bands do that for their fans. Thanks MMJ!
please pray for my resolve ;)
You'll be fine... Listening parties are coming soon... that'll give everyone a chance to get their fix!
I have no desire to even download the leak. I steal enough shit (mainly older stuff that at this point I am not sure if the artist would ever receive a damn dime of it). I try to avoid DL new stuff, especially by artists I have the utmost love for.
Again, I have no evil urges.

I'm thinkin it's something similar to not enjoying that pre-release subtitled Hong Kong version because it's not perfect. You know, the subtitles, crappy video, and bad audio don't exactly pull you in like 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround on a 50 foot screen. That said, to enjoy it hunched over your computer screen is not quite the same as in a big comfy theatre.
Can you enjoy it? Sure.
Is it the beautiful experience that you would really want? Debatable. I'll argue no, just because I'd think that any first exposure to something you've been really looking forward to ought to be the most immersing, most beautiful, most powerful. That's unrelated though. The important part here is what's missing from that first experience. Bad audio resolution, along with no liner notes, no physical cd (though that's being phased out a little), and no real solid "I bought this" connection makes the album a bit more dismissable, and it sort of separates you from it, I think.
To give a review of the album from a leaked version is like reviewing that Hong Kong rip of a dvd--it's not complete, and you're missing something in that first listen. That less than perfect audio gives you something else to hear when Patrick is crashing on his cymbals, or the band gets really loud, or Bo or Tommy rock some seriously low notes, or Jim nails that scream in Highly Suspicious and the track breaks up accordingly. Having the track break up on you isn't exactly a good quality audio to go from. Even if it doesn't break up, I'm sure it's got that famous "mp3 shimmer" on the cymbals at the very least. And being compressed to a zip file and decompressed, I can't imagine it's much of a bitrate at all. Anybody know the number? Anything less than 256k is pretty weak.
Summary: Review of the leak is not the same as holding the album in your hands and reviewing it after making that physical connection with perfect quality audio--exactly as the band meant for you to first experience. They've worked hard on this ridiculous album art to give you something to think about even before you've put it in your cd player (or on your turntable).
Good point, Brad.
Sorry for the book, Dylan.
2¢ over.
Hey, here's a distraction, Kathleen Edwards on Letterman tonight and She & Him (shizzle and hizzle) on Conan tonight! Evil what? ;)
I cannot believe everyone is making such a big fucking deal about the leak and the people that decide to listen to it. Who's at fault for the leak in the first place??
If you wanna wait until June 10, more power to you. How about everyone just mind their own business.
ellisintransit, sorry to hear about your misadventures to see the Mars Volta...that's a total bummer. But speaking of the Mars Volta....I totally bought "Amputechture" at an independent record store on September 11, 2006...a day before it was released in the U.S. They were putting prices on the CDs and they had them sitting out on the counter and I happened to notice it, and I grabbed one and they let me buy it cause everyone they have on display with a price on it is for sale. I listened to it on the ride home, so I TOTALLY ripped off the band. I probably wasn't suppose to hold that disc or smell that booklet until the 12th. That will get 'em!
Holy crap have I missed a lot of stuff going on the forum lately! Lots of stuff is going on for me and of course, I miss all the excitement.
I will stay strong. I have not leakage desire. Feel sorry for the moderator and all the people who this causes problems for. I'll buy like 5 copies, many concert tickets, and much merchandise to make up for it (well, I would do that anyways ;)).
Looking forward to new album. Until then I'll just have to dig on something else.
I miss having more time for the forum! After I move and I don't know anyone, you guys will probably get sick of me. hahahaha.

Hi folks, my name is Mark and I am a Jacketoholic... ;D
In all seriousness...I am choosing to hold out just because I don't want my first listen to be shitty quality so here's what I did to prove a point to myself. I of course got the original mp3 from the band the other day. Last night I grabbed the leaked version of the disc from usenet...and it was in 160 kbps fwiw.
I took only the first track and took a good listen of the two side by side with my Etymotic Er6 noise reducing earphones. the leak sounded incredibly tinny. Like a stream. The official sounded warm and full. then toggled back and forth between the npr stream of Touch Me and the leaked mp3 and they were about the same quality.
I am old fashioned so I have no problem waiting but I thought I would share that for those that need a boost in moral. Remember, you've got to work it to make it work ;)

I might vote patrick to be shag carpeting, because it's hard to vacuum. LLLLLLLLLLol

Meg- I just want you to know you are getting a standing o in the Koehler household. I think you and I were the only ones to watch the gloriousness that was the trainwreck of Rock Of Love I & II.

I'm gonna buy it the day it comes out! Screw those leaks. I'm waiting!
Since the moment the NPR broadcast from SXSW became available, I've listened to the show proably 20 times. When the album was leaked, I did pick up a copy but before I ever listened to it I made a presale purchase at Amazon.com
I haven't been here much, but this will become a more permanent home (away from the Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo message boards).
I've been going to concerts since 1979 (Supertramp), have seen 40+ Grateful Dead shows, and over the past four years have come to a decision that MMJ is the best band that I have ever heard/seen. I don't know if that makes me their #1 fan, but I would call myself "fullly committed". Heading down to L-ville with my wife and 4 year old daughter for a family weekend and an MMJ diversion in August. I don't know if I can wait that long.

Awesome, I am really jealous now. ;)I love supertramp!
I guess I'm old fashion, I refuse to downlaod leaks. I can't justify in my own mind downloading a leak then saying I will buy it when it comes out. It's like robbing someone and then giving them a IOU. I will roll the dice and wait, the band has been very gracious about releasing live versions of the new stuff. And I likey alot :).
I also refuse to listen to someone else review something that has not been formally released. Thats just me,
I don't think this is what Al Gore invisioned when he invented the Internets :).
who gives a shit about waiting? really? c'mon.
i waited on the last album, and looking back, it was pointless. just download the shit if you wanna hear it and buy it when comes out. i am. there's no way this leak is gonna sound as good as the official cd.

you might consider taking things around here a little more lightly? if we've learned anything collectively as a board in the last week, I'd say that would be it?
If you lurk like you said you do in the other thread, I'd hope (and am sorry if) you saw the animosity that went down this last week over the leak. That said, there's a big divide over those who listened and those who haven't. All the moral ground for it has already been established elsewhere, so there's really no need to rehash it. But at this point, to still carry that around with a vengeance is a bit old. Is it still disheartening to see new people coming in posting about the leak? Sure. But it's not a giant maddening wave of people. That wasn't the best.
But honestly, there's really no need to stir old arguments up just for the sake of being angry about something. I am sure you can find a better way to oust pent-up frustration than that. Take the higher ground, man.
Peace.
(Missed the memo!)
Quote(Missed the memo!)
Hey Tom! I meant the email from the band. I only posted cuz he dissed Tracy. I usually don't bother in these dramatics, but that was so unwarranted ... Happy Friday! :D
Said email from the band (posted again, and again) :
hello all you fine and wonderful people out there that are interested in what we do. we now live in the 90's - the era of the interweb and instant gratification. these are confusing times for all humankind, but especially for those of us in the music world as you well know... a week or so ago we played some of our new songs for the first time at a show in houston tx! about an hour later all of those songs were available on the interweb- talk about speed!!! since those and other non-album audiovisual recordings are available to people on the interweb, we wanted to make at least one "real" song version available (if one was interested in what the "real actual studio album" might sound like) to those of you who have supported us most and have seemed most excited about what we are doing over the years.
so here is the song "evil urges". we sure hope you are to enjoy it! we would put the whole thing out there on the interweb, but gosh darn-it, we're still a little old fashioned in that way of wanting the listener to be able to get the actual music when it is supposed to be released, when we say it is finished- not when someone else puts it on the interweb.... but it is the 90's now, we understand that. its a new decade and we want to be part of this decade, but whilst still maintaining a link to the past - where one can't necessarily get everything they want immediately when they want it, but rather when they are told they can have it - by their real life keeper or their digital daddy! we will play both roles here. we all personally relish waiting to unwrap that shrink wrap and smelling that fresh vinyl or compact disc plastic, mmm...that fresh cardboard and paper. or if we buy it off the interweb we all love holding our computers up to our noses and smelling those brand new digital downloads...mmm...fresh! gall durn it- we're just old fashioned that way. sometimes... gentle reader, in this age of instant gratification, waiting can be so rewarding, it can teach us a valuable lesson about the triumph of the human spirit... but sometimes, like our old friend tom petty said- waiting is the hardest part. thank you all for being so supportive of us, and unending in your love... from the bottom of our cold dead hearts!
love,
mmj!

Stay strong! You'll feel so much better when you buy the album and hear the real, crisp, beautiful thing for the first time. I'd much rather be totally immersed an album (the kind of stuff you always call back to when telling people how great it was to hear it for the first time), than have to disregard glitchy sounding stuff because the sound quality is shite.
I have yet to listen to evil urges even though I have it at my fingertips, I have remained strong. Espicially after reading the statement released by the band about them being 'old fashioned' and not wanting listeners to have it until they say so. MMJ does so much for their fans that I really want to respect their take on this. and...
I read the radiohead article from rolling stone about how they ditched the record industry with the IN RAINBOWS download. When Thom was asked about it, he said something along these lines about past albums that leaked: "theres a compliment there, the fact that people want to get ahold of what youve done. but if its not the difinitive version, if the ends are chopped off, if you havent made the choice to do it yourself, its a bit unfair. Bad karma. So it felt liberating to take complete control."
That Bad Karma line is really getting to me. But I do have this one question: If MMJ or their label or whoever is in charge didnt want Evil Urges to leak, than why did they send it to press/media/radio so early. Obviously someone within the media or record label is the one leaking it. Are they really expected to and trustworthy enough not to make it available to a much wider array of people outside their industry?
So with that thought I kinda do wanna listen very badly to it. Why media first? why not true and all fans as well as media, at the same time.
I still have not listened to it, but i may need further convincing and perhaps this questioned discussed/answered. Gimmie some feed back.
Still holdin strong...
It does seem like it should work just fine to have the media listen at the same time as the fans. I mean, the super fans like us are going to buy it on the first day it comes out anyway, the media can then convince everyone else that needs convincing to buy it or not buy it after that. I realize that is simplifying it a bit, but if that's what it takes to keep it from leaking, then I think it could work.
Damn, I hope the album gets released early. I'm starting to worry about getting hit by a bus. I can just see myself on my death bed....
Mom: "Wait, I think he's trying to signal us somehow with his eyes. OK, Dave, if you can hear me, blink once for yes, and two for no."
Four hundered and eighty seven yes or no questions later.....
Mom: So, you want us to download evil urges illegally, put it on your headphones, change your drip bag to a nice Cabernet and turn out the lights?
;) (YES! YES! YES! YES!)

I'll play it at your graveside, but if you die tomorrow, I'm still going to have to wait until June 10th. I'm not about to desecrate your graveside with a crappy mp3 version, if you can't even smell the liner notes.

i imagine it's a practical, deadline related thing. if magazines were only publishing reviews, the release could wait a few weeks, but the band is getting FEATURE articles. cover articles. they're going to have to get the record to writers if they want it covered in the articles with any depth.

Take that shit to another thread my friend. This is the STAY STONG thread beaahhhtch.
For all you people who didn't get listening parties and don't have one in your reigon: this is not a legit excuse to listen to the leak. ;)
Someone told me when I was 13 that if waited til I found the girl I truly loved that sex would be the most incredible thing ever when we got hitched. Found the girl, AND I CANNOT FREAKING WAIT TO GET HITCHED IS ALL I'M SAYING.
Anticipation is a beautiful beautiful thing.

So, I was just reading David Sedaris' new story which is featured in the current New Yorker and there's a paragraph that is just perfect for these times. It's a story he's written about having been an avid non-smoker, then a smoker, then a finished smoker. It's pretty good, the whole thing, but paragraph 4 really caught my attention:
"It wasn't the smoke but the smell of it that bothered me. In later years, I didn't care so much, but at the time I found it depressing: the scent of neglect. It wasn't so noticeable in the rest of the house, but then again the rest of the house was neglected. My room was clean and orderly, and if I'd had my way it would have smelled like an album jacket the moment you remove the plastic. That is to say, it would have smelled like anticipation."
Perfect. Thanks David Sedaris. 8-)

I have been downloading my music for years now. I know that its wrong, but I just feel that what I have to do. None the less I have made a decision that I will not get Evil Urges until June 10th. I have been struggling with this for the last few weeks. I want to hear this album so damn bad!!!!! Now I have a strong community to go to for support!
;D
I caved into my evil urges (bad me *punches self*). MMJ has been my favorite band for the last five years and I respect 'em enough to buy a physical copy of 'Urges no matter what. Besides, MP3s are not exactly lossless.

It's released on the day I get married. I'm convinced it's a sign! A sign of what I don't know lol.
I heard some crappy youtube versions couple weeks ago but I have abstained from hearing the "real" versions. I have "Evil Urges" as well, they gave it to us! and it's been played like, 100 times or more.
I shall stay strong, and buy it on the first day of my honeymoon lol!
Maybe it's just me but I'm not finding the wait to be all that difficult. Granted I've played the hell out of I'm Amazed, Evil Urges, and Touch Me Pt.2, but they did just play SNL and there's plenty of live cuts of the new stuff out there. If anything, it's made me go back and appreciate everything they've done up until this point. This is not to say I'm not VERY excited about the new album but I like having something to look forward to...

I actually enjoy DMB very much and I don't think anyone can deny his talent. But with that said, I think it is terrible to force anything on your children. My approach is to show them everything, and let them choose. Let them be free, let them explore their world, not yours.
Here is something you can try while you wait out these last couple of painful weeks.
I'm not sure which steps are the most important so if you don't do everything exactly the same, I can't guarantee it will work.
OK, first off, here is what you will need to perform this experiment.

I'm not sure which steps are the most important so if you don't do everything exactly the same, I can't guarantee it will work.

I went to visit my local record shop on Friday and the shop owner says to me, "We got your copy of the new MMJ cd and we've buried it under the floor." :o
He wanted to see how quickly I'd try to dig it up. ;)
Maybe I do have a problem. :D

Full album stream upon MMJ's myspace....
www.myspace.com/mymorningjacket
That myspace thing must be the "Ultimate Temptation".
But I'm not giving in an inch. 7 days to go and still going strong.
I don't know what to think anymore...the band has given us every right to enjoy Evil Urges. I'm not sure if it's betraying this thread or not. I'll try waiting, but I'm not sure if I can hold out.
i want to get the full experience and wait for the vinyl. exactly the way they meant for me to hear it. i've held out this long. just a few more days then on to manchester
I can't get the vinyl anywhere near here. I am in my "happy place" now, and will be for the next hour.
So I am going to start listening after this post. You have the length of the first song to talk me out of it. ;)
Wow. Next Tuesday will still be sweet, and y'all are the sweetest fans.
Now, back to listening to the album on the band's MySpace.
to this day, and forever, there are few things more exciting than patiently waiting for your favorite band's release date for their new album, going to your favorite locally owned record store, buying the album (or CD), driving home, getting home and unwrapping the CD, drawing the curtains, putting it in the ol' stereo, cranking it up to 11, and letting all that anticipated bliss fill the corners of your life and home
aaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, just like the old days.
:)

Yeah, It's to late to talk the Dark out of it but S,s,S,s,SEVEN!!!! :-*
well I guess there's really no point in waiting any longer then is there?
wrong thread, foxtrot. this is the STAY STRONG! thread. [smiley=beer.gif]
full disclosure: heard the record at a listening party, but have not dl'd anything. just hearing the songs on the radio! (kcrw)
well as the foreplay continues, I will remain true to boys and not go there.
I am listening to Yo La Tengo, "Mr tough".
I am true to the listening experience. I have pre ordered on ITUNES.
I am strong, STAY TRUE!!!
Best of luck to the rest of y'all holding out. I bowed out earlier today. Trust me, you're gonna love it. :)
This is like The Contest in Seinfeld. And similar to masturbation there was zero fucking chance of me holding out for, ooo, more than five minutes. Plus you should never feel guilty for wanking. Nor should you feel bad if you downloaded the album early but I respect the guys that did. Hardcore.
I think I'm going to jiz myself...this has been such a buildup, OMFG!
QuoteI think I'm going to jiz myself...this has been such a buildup, OMFG!
I hope the orgasm is one of those ones that makes you almost weep and thank God for having a penis.
i was strong until last night when i found out you could listen to the album in its entirety on their myspace page. i heard the album once at the listening party and then last night, i'm diggin the librarian---i'm hoping jim will settle for a sexy law student, though! ha ha on 2 listens, i'm pretty excited about the album, although i can't say i'm over the moon like i was when i first heard Z and was blown away.

Ditto That. I was holding off for so long and then I see they are just giving it away now. No way I was going to continue waiting. Yes, I AM WEAK.
BUT.... I LOVE IT!!
Touch Me Pt 1..... this song is blowing my mind. Never thought the jacket would sound like this.
Sec Walkin'..... perfecto
BRING IT RADIO CITY!! BRING IT!!!!!!!

I caved yesterday, too and listened to the Myspace tracks. :D I listened twice and then went back to obsessively listening to the Austin show. :)
Agh! Still strong!! I may go play a track or 2 on one of the jukeboxes @ the bar tonight tho. ;)
Less than a week now!
I still havent caved yet..but it is getting harder and harder. June 10th is almost hear so i waited this long
It's like the week before Xmas, and all through the house...nothing was playing, not even my Evil Urges. I'm still stong, biznitch! 8-)
Still strong. In fact, I may wait until June 17th to get it. Who's with me?
wussies!
Still strong! I will probably cave tomorrow though - I work one day a week at the only record store in a two hour radius, and that day happens to be when "New Releases" arrive. So yeah, if Evil Urges comes in tomorrow I'm rushing home to my stereo and headphones after work.
HELP. this extended foreplay is killing me, but it may make me stronger if I do not give in. I quit smoking ciggys I can stay strong.
I have at dawn playing in the car and the the Austin show on line. FUCK I love librarian..
I broke last night when I went to their Myspace page. I've been listening ever since. They tricked me though, those bastards. I was just going to have a look and the whole album starts playing.
And for the record, it sounds amazing...

The juxtaposition is intense!!!
What do you do???
Jim said WAIT TILL JUNE 10th. Then they went and streamed the album on their official MYSPACE page.
What now???
Pulled in 2 directions...
It's better the 5th time through than the 1st time. So fuckin' great!!!
I'm still staying strong...less than a week...I can do it...
staying strong
subsiding off live evil urges material, can't wait!!!!!
I don't get it. Why deny yourself the satisfaction of listening to it? I mean seriously, at this point what is the difference between hearing it at a listening party or streaming it online at their myspace page? I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade here, I held out almost as long as everyone else here did. Once they put it up to stream, there's no way I could resist and it hasn't decreased my desire to buy it next tuesday. In fact, it's made me MORE excited for it.
I know this is probably the wrong thread for this post as this is the 'support group' thread, so sorry if this comes accross the wrong way. Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks I guess. I'm just trying to understand the motivation for holding out at this point. Either way, the album kicks ass!

Personal, for me, it has nothing to do with the LP or myspace. When MMJ first announced the release date, and than wrote to their fans about waiting until that date, I set a goal for myself. This is a goal that I feel is important to me. I have a hard time with people who say they are going to do something, and than find excuses of why they couldn't, or why they changed their mind. Integrity and commitment are very important values to me. If I say I'm going to do something, I will try my hardest to do it.
As far as you posting these lame thoughts of yours in this thread is just very disrespectful to us who are trying to wait. And saying "sorry if this comes across the wrong way. Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks I guess," doesn't make it any less disrespectful.
As far as the album being kick ass, was there ever any doubt? It's MMJ!

Point taken. I don't think it's a terrible thing to have a discussion about it though, and I also don't think my thoughts are 'lame', but I obvously chose the wrong thread to share these thoughts. I think it's a pretty broad generalization to assume that I now have no integrity or committment because I listened to the tracks.
Whatever, I won't make any more posts about it in this thread. :-X

What would you call it then? If you said you were going to wait (if you did) and than you didn't wait, I would say that is a lack of committment and therefor hurting your integrity...
I just thought it was lame because of the lack of respect...
At the end of it all, it only matters what you think: If you think you did the right thing than it's fine.

Well folks, it's all happening tonight. The album is in at the little music shop I work part-time at. I'm showering, then hauling my ass there, putting my money in an envelope not to be opened till Tuesday and taking Evil Urges. I'm then going to pick up some coffee and something to eat then haul ass home and crank the stereo to eleven.
:D
I got it today. Australian cd stores are already selling it.:) :) :)

Fixin to get mine tomorrow...........some people at Best Buy will be trampled in the process(note: even though my Best Buy is not crowded, I will seek these people out to trample anyway). Then I will go home and hit the Tennessee smooth a sippin' JD and have a hell of a solo listening party....
Are any of you listening to the WFPK stream right now? Because you should be. I don't know if that would not be staying strong though. So far they've played all songs from EU, including some they hadn't played live yet.
