QuoteOnly idiots with a death wish don't wear seatbelts. And if you don't make your passengers (kids, family etc...) wear one, then you deserve to be fined or jailed.

waste of tax dollars jailing people who don't wear a seat belt.  a fine seems reasonable in dangerous driving scenarios.

wearing a seat belt has proven to give drivers more confidence and in turn drive faster.  which also makes their driving much less safe.  The issue is touchy at best.

I always wear my seatbelt. It's not hard to do. But I don't think you should get jailed...that happens? Coming home for a Twins game we hit black ice going 70, spun, and went straight into the ditch. I just unbuckled my seatbelt to adjust it. But kinda froze and hung on tight. Very lucky. I encourage everyone to buckle up.

Even you, Sticky   :-*

I could care less if idiot drivers purposely choose not to wear seatbelts and they end up getting themselves killed. But I think those same fools should be held liable if they don't try to ensure their passengers' safety. Also, drunk drivers and speeders that cause road fatalities should be jailed for fucking life, but more times than not, they get off with little more than a slap on the wrist.

Seatbelts make people more confident? Confident or feeling more safe? Helmets and shoulder-pads make athletes more aggressive, but serious injuries are minimal considering the amount of times impact occurs. And where'd you get your stats from? Airbags and seatbelts save lives; there's always going to be morons behind the wheel no matter what.

all I'm saying is an airbag can kill a baby and that's straight up unsafe.  I retrieved the stat from an ancient archive of information locked within my brain.   Pedestrian deaths increased after the seat belt law went into effect.  Not sure how relevant that is now considering generations have been brought up on seat belts now.

I've said it once and I'll say it again I don't wear a seat belt because I love ghost ridin' the whip.  If there is an opportunity to do it while I'm driving I do it.  not wearing a seat belt is the best way to be ready to ride the whip in the most pure form.  fyi.

Babies should never be anywhere near an airbag. They should be secured in baby seats, often faced backwards in the back seat. As for taking chances, good luck!

QuoteI feel the need to address this anti-police sentiment.  My brother was a cop.  I worked with many local law enforcement when I was assistant principal of a high school.  Most are good people.  Many are assholes, magnified by a certain amount of power derived from their job, their gun, their uniform.  But most are good people.

Imagine a society without police.  I mean, seriously, try to picture it.  Its not a place where I would want to live, to raise my family, to feel safe.

Like all of our society, it is flawed.  We may never fix that as long as humans are involved.  For we are flawed.  Good people make bad choices.  Bad people occasionally do good.  Laws are meant to fill in the gaps where common sense fails to act.

I long to realize the utopian lyrics from "Wonderful (The Way I Feel)":

I'm going where there ain't no disease
I'm going where there ain't no police
I'm going where there ain't no need
To escape from what is, only spirits at ease

It would be nice if we didn't need some sort of public safety system in place, but that would depend upon a society where kindness and common sense are the norm.  I don't think that currently exists.

Cops should be setting an example. They should have a duty to set an example. A lot don't. And the cop hierarchy should be investing time and money in rooting out the huge number of assholes that work for them. Unfortunately a huge number of the assholes are part of the cop hierarchy so we're going nowhere on that one.

Based on my only serious interaction with the police in 41 years they have given me the first impression that most of them are assholes. It may be a generalisation, but the cop wanker I encountered made a sweeping generalisation about me first.

Based on that I still say FUCK THA POLICE!

I'm sorry you're feeling blue.

Here's the song that comes to mind when I hear that someone is sad, though its a version both touching and funny, to cheer you up.
