Watched Peter Jackson's Dead Alive (Braindead in some countries) earlier. It might be my favorite zombie flick now.

Also, just rewatched Eternal Sunshine again. Sort of needed to cry at a movie. One of those days.

The river is moving. The blackbird must be flying.

QuoteI just got my 3disc WallE in the post & disc2 is covered in scratches.

I fucking hate stupid packaging like this!!!  >:( >:( >:(

That's mighty unfortunate. Was it able to play? Or sent back?
Evey: Are you, like, a crazy person?
V: I am quite sure they will say so.

Disc 2 is a scratched, haven't watched it yet...

I got The Simpsons Season 11 for my birthday, worst packaging ever! All 4 discs are jammed into unbelievably tight cardboard sleeves, all 4 scratched coming out!
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

Elf.  Man I love this movie!

Had one of those days with Terms of Endearment  ;D

Dead Alive is one zombie I've been meaning to see.  I hear it's a damn good one.

Speaking of Peter Jackson, have you ever seen Meet The Feebles?

Sweet Jesus, that looks incredible. Things like this make me love Peter Jackson more and more.

You really do need to see Dead Alive, it's really just a wonderful movie. And some of the best pre-CGI over-the-top gore I've seen. I thought Savini's work in Day of the Dead was pretty damn incredible, but there's something perfect in the way it's conceived and played out in Dead Alive.

There's a good comparison scene from both movies, and neither will spoil the movies to mention, but there's scenes involving head dismemberment in both. In Day of the Dead, one of the characters has this moment where he's been pinned down by a group of underfed reanimates (do NOT fuck with the hungry undead) and they start going at his neck/clavicle-region. He's screaming ridiculously as they begin pulling on his head and they wind up severing the head as he's screaming, his torso still freaking out and the scream becoming this inhuman wail as his vocal folds are torn from his body. Animatronic head still writhing. It's ridiculous. But it didn't fit the character of the movie. Day of the Dead is so dark and zombie-less to a point, and you can tell they really wanted to push the envelope with the end of the movie and that sort of gore just really seems out of place. Doesn't add to the darkness of the movie, because you hate the character and he almost gets killed to easily. It's incredible from the standpoint of ground-breaking gore, but it doesn't fit the character of the way the film's been going, somehow. It could've been the soundtrack, too. Who knows.

Anyways, Dead Alive has this scene where (and let me mention that this sucker is relatively low-budget, so all the gore and dismemberment is thanks to either puppetry or stop-motion, both of which have a much campier and fitting effect here)...hmmm. That was a really shitty use of a parenthetical statement. Anyhow, there's this scene where the zombies really start going to town, someone catches another zombie's head and just starts pulling on the scalp and the skin off the entire head comes off in one piece. It's perfect and brilliant and not drawn out and things just keep rolling, onto more gore. But I think in light of the rest of the movie, and the way it plays out with all the gore just horribly overdone in a way where anythign over-the-top is only fitting, stuff like this just amplifies how ridiculous it is. Jackson really has a beautiful feel for how ridiculous the genre is, and really did it some serious justice by playing up the camp to the extreme. Not for the light of stomach, I wouldn't say, just because things get a bit...visceral? But totally worth the watch if you dig anything about the genre.

Loved it. It's probably my favorite zombie flick now. Beautiful movie.

I saw that when it first came out. Don't remember much about it other than it didn't have the same effect that Bad Taste or Brain Dead did...

Actually, I think I do remember some of the m/puppets shagging the hippo though...

Damn, I would love to see this!  I hope it's not too rare because it's hard to find anything even semi-rare here in OK.  (Currently looking around for Pink Flamingos  ;D with no luck!)

So far, my favorite zombie flick would be Return of the Living Dead.  Gotta love the 80's punk fucks and Tar Man!

Haha yeah I recall some of that action happening.  And the rabbit has AIDS if I remember correctly.

I do remember the main character Robert's name being pronounced 'Wubbit'.

Just watched Masked and Anonymous for the first time. I liked it but I think it's one of those movies I need to see again before I really form an honest opinion.

Tar Man is easily in my top 3 favorite zombies. Hell, he might be tied for number 1 with Bub from Day of the Dead. The naked punk fuck from RoTLD probably scores number 3!  ;)

Seriously though, if you have a Borders, you've more than likely got Brain Dead/Dead Alive available to you. Don't know why the title got changed for America, but either way. It's seriously worth owning. If you sincerely dug RoTLD, you'll absolutely love Dead Alive. Peter Jackson definitely understands the necessity of tongue in cheek when it comes to this business, and made for such a wonderful gorefest. I'm glad you reminded me of RoTLD, because now I think I need to rent that one again...

Dead Alive is pretty widely available, I doubt youd have a problem finding it.

Its pretty much as popular as the Evil Dead/Army of Darkness series

Me too. I hate that there are no decent movie theaters nearby. I'll probably end up waiting for the DVD.

Really great movie. Have any of you seen The City of Lost Children? That's another awesome Jean-Pierre Jeunet film.
