I'm in Vegas for work, staying at the hard rock...furthur's playing tonight so I guess I'll check it out. Expectations=low. I did see phil Lesh in the lobby after I checked in yesterday, had a brief chat with him but didn't want to be "that guy" so I kept it brief and respected his space.  Phil is the man!

I'm a fan, and have seen Furthur several times. Haven't been disappointed yet! As a matter of fact, they were pretty damn tight the last two times I saw them, and their sound is impeccable! One of the crispest, pristine sounding live shows I've seen in a while.  8) If you go in with an open mind, with the intention of having a good time, and enjoying the music for what it is, I think you'll enjoy it too, imo.

I have many friends who I went to Dead shows with who always want to compare the bands, and Furthur never measures up in their eyes. It's always ...I've seen better ( insert any Dead song), and I'm like, so have I, but that was still pretty damn good, and I'm glad these guys are still out there carrying the torch. It is what it is, and I  catch a show whenever I can. I'll be seeing them in November at MSG, and in Atlantic City.

Have fun Walter, and looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the show.

You couldn't have summed it up better!  I always hear the comparisons on my end too.....  well yeah, Jerry's gone of course, and no it's not going to be the same, but they're still (one of) the pioneers of facemelting, and I'll be damned if I don't have a blast at a show!  The only time I'm disappointed is when I can't make it  ;)

Vegas show was fun, I thoroughly enjoyed it.  The Scarlet>Fire to close the set was my personal highlight.  Good stuff.

I only saw the Dead once.   This thread has gotten me curious as to my show.

The show I went to was the first time they played Lucy in the Sky w Diamonds.   That's all I remember!

The Dead website is pretty useless.   No easy way to search for that that I can tell.

thanks John - yup, that's the date for sure.   Any other comments on the setlist (me not being familiar w/ the band too much) - I went w my brother and he told me it was the first time LITSWD was played, which was a helpful fact apparently.

Apparently, after your reply, I added links to download the LMA tapings, FYI.

Shakedown Street is always a treat, was also the first song I heard them play live at my first show, and didn't hear it again until one of the last shows I saw (saw between 80-90 shows total).  And Dark Star is a huge fan favorite...one that was rarely played in the last decade of the Grateful Dead.  And I always loved Crazy Fingers as well as Desolation Row (Dylan cover).  Other than that, somewhat standard setlist.

Have to say the latest further stuff has been really impressive.  I was at MSG last year and they did the whole Terripan.  I mean the whole second side of the studio cassette.  Was really great.

Another highlight from recent further stuff was the Tower show last year; where they played my favorite Jerry Band tune.... Rueben and Cherise!  One of my lifetime live music highlights!

AHHHHHHHH!!!!!   :D :D :D :D :D

I take this to mean you will be attending  ;D

Let's see...this incarnation of Phil & Friends will boast arguably one of the greatest living guitarists (Warren), one of the greatest living singer/songwriters and Dead interpreters (Jackie), one of my favorite Dead keyboardists since Keith Godchaux (Jeff), and a drum-monster who carries Furthur like he's Billy K in the single-drummer days....oh and not to mention PHIL funkin' LESH.

If only... have fun for us, Woody  ;)

Dang.  No way to make that one.  I'll have to be content with having seen Furthur in Monterey last weekend and going to see Trigger Hippy in November.  But still, dang....

I have to call out another one of my recent Further gems...

Days Between at the Mann 2 years ago.  An obscure tune that I freaking Love.  I had to dial up an old buddy of mine on teh cell phone and hold it up.
