About a month ago a yarn dyer named Erica came to my Indiefolk group on a knitting board and discussed a new project she was working on, to create limited edition specialty yarns in a collaboration between her and a few bands. The first band to participate was My Morning Jacket!  The dyer, Erica, noted that "They are no strangers to the knitting world & are seemingly excited about making 'their own yarn.' "
Jim James and the band came up with the colorway, and also the name for it : "Knot Comes Loose" The results are fabulous! The yarn is*so so amazingly beautiful!* and there is even a fingerless mitt pattern to go with it, called "My Morning Mitts"  Even if you don't knit, I say check it out if just for the colors and pictures.
You can see the yarn in this entry at the artists blog: TurtleDove Yarns
For purchase information visit TurtleDove yarns Etsy store , or go to http://www.myhedgehogknits.com/

Thanks for posting! I'll have to pick some up.

For those wondering about the band's connection is to the knitting world Jim's good friend Dennis, formerly of Follow the Train, owns a kintting store here in Louisville along with his wife called the Knit Nook.

I'm a novice knitter but those mitts don't look toooo tricky...

Man, who am I kidding?  I need some My Morning Mitts!  Thanks for posting, Eco   :)
if it falls apart or makes us millionaires

Any chance a knitter could hook a non-knittin' brotha up?  Or do you think it's something I can do?  :-/

Just fyi, Dennis and Kira don't own the Knit Nook anymore.  They haven't for a while.

Thanks for clearing that up.  I heard they closed but when I saw it was still open I assumed it was still theirs.

I can hook you up my brother.  The directions say one skein will make two pair of mitts.  I'll reel mine off first and then I'll make yours. It'll be better this way I think - give me time to work out the kinks.   ;)

As you know (in your unusual Portland heat) there is no hurry for this to take place, but I appreciate your gesture.  Just let me know what I owe a knitter.  ;)  Or maybe it's fair for me to purchase and you knit. Obviously if we were married, that wouldn't be fair-that would be 1809.  But today, since we're not married, that might be considered fair-ish.  :-/

OMG, no kidding!  There's no chance I will be starting this project in the next week or two!  Besides the heat I still have to wait for the yarn & instructions to arrive!  No worries about that whole married thing...I'm pretty sure I don't want my last name to be "Dog".   :-*

SRSLY tho, one day I WILL come to L'Ville and you and a certain someone else can buy me a glass of wine! :)

Knitting is a pretty easy thing to do, why not give it a shot?
It used to be something only men did, if you can believe that!

A good tie-in.  I went in that place last year because someone was making me a scarf and we were picking out yarns.  IT was about 100 degrees in there with 5 ladies (all ages) knitting away.
Hooked on four like one, two, three

dear lord.  if these men next collaborate with a coffee roaster for a signature bean, i will think someone is reading my list of interests on my friendster profile.

that yarn looks gorgeous knitted up!  might make a good looking pair of socks, too.  c'mon knitters, let's turn some heels! ;D

I read this as yams first time round.  Thought the guys had got into genetically-modified fruit.
The trouble with the straight and the narrow is it's so thin, I keep sliding off to the side

Ordered and arrived....it's luscious.  Definitely workable for socks, but I'll be making the mitts.

LoveDog, check out http://www.knittinghelp.com/.  The instructional videos are GREAT.  Alternatively, go to your local yarn store to buy the needles and then get them to teach you!
God sure baked a lot of fruitcake, baby.

i definitely think you need to learn to do it yourself. a man that can knit is sexy!! also a man who can cook and clean...and can vegetables..and cut hair. the modern man REALLY needs to be able to do it all to compete.
but come on...there's nothing sexy about poop. Nothing.  -bbill
