although, I think they would make the pina`colada song sound good too! ;)

Erm... I think that might be pushing it a bit  ;)

lyricjunkie

:DAWWHH COME ON... you know they could sing the word 'crap' and nothing else for the whole song and make it sound good. ;)

QuoteWow.  I never really listened to the words of that song beyond liking pina coladas and getting caught in the rain. So, ah...  thanks for that.

Yeah you don't get the genious of the song until you realize that the women he meets at a bar called O'Malleys is in fact HIS OWN LOVELY LADY! ;D
Now that is what I call ROMANTIC with all caps, and no one does ROMANTIC better than JIM JAMES.
This song is SWEET!
and by sweet I don't mean like  aaaaahhhhhh sweet Kitty.
I mean Sweet Like..Fuck Yeah this song rules!!!!!!

sweatboard

I agree, Breathe is a brilliant choice.

Thank you, thank you all for your kind words.  And now for my next trick...o, wait a minute I don't have a next trick :(

Now why do I think that you know quite a few more tricks than that? ;) :-*

Are we allowed to suggest duets?

Okay, call me crazy, but I would kill to see Jim James do some songs with Gillian Welch.

"Love Hurts".  Oh lord.  Oh mylanta, I would die.

Or, even, what if he did some duets with Neko Case - like some of the old George and Tammy stuff.  Or some of the Loretta and Conway stuff.  Or Loretta and Ernest Tubb.

Or anything, anything at all.  hm.

thought of another good one - "In the air tonight"...with a whole lot of V when it speeds up near the end. JJ could throw down some crazy reverb on the vocals for that one.

After ruminating on this for about 15 years, I have  concluded that the song I most would like to hear MMJ cover would be  . . . Butterboy (by Fanny).

The gender bender turn on the lyrics would be hilarious, his voice might be the only one on the planet that could top the original, and the band would all have a chance to sing backup nonsense like "waa-up wa-oo".  And the bouncing rythms could be cranked way up by the Jacket boys.

OOOOOOOOOO, Butterboy!

...all my friends call me a fool.
They say "Let the woman take care of you."
So I try to be hip and think like the crowd.
But even the crowd can't help me now. Ohhhhh
OH GIRL...
Tell me what am I gonna do?

Now come on girls!!! you know you'd just melt if Jim James belted that one out.

that's actually by Lenny Cohen, but Jeff Buckley's is a great version. I also like Rufus Wainwright's...

Speaking of lyrics, I don't know if Jim could sing this without laughing his butt off, but I think My Morning Jacket would tear it up something awful.  I'm not sure how they'd manage the sax break in the middle, but this would be too, too funny if they'd cover it.  Let's draft a petition and present it to the guys in the band:

Butterboy (by Fanny)

He was hard as a rock, but I was ready to roll
what a shock to find out, I was in control of the situation
I didn't need no time or destination.

He said "Say you look divine, have I met you before?"
I said "Your place or mine?", it's getting hard to be sure, of an invitation
In these times of casual, quick relations

Chorus
Go, Baby, go
Get it on boy, show what you know
Oh, there's a fire down below
So go Baby, go!
It doesn't matter to me

He thought I'd be impressed by his rotating bed
Such a woman suppressed surely needs to be led
to complete elation
And I've had my share of conversation

Chorus
Go, Baby, go
Get it on boy, show what you know
Oh, there's a fire down below
So go Baby, go!
It doesn't matter to me; no, no, no

He had four on the floor, and I was ready to clutch
I said "Give me some more",
He said "You're too much
for my inclination. And I've had my share of invitations

Chorus
Go, Baby, go
Get it on boy,
show what you know
Oh, there's a fire down below
So go Baby, go!
It doesn't matter to me; no, no

Oh, Butterboy!

Go, Baby, go
Get it on boy,
show what you know
Oh, there's a fire down below
So go Baby, go!
It doesn't matter to me; no, no, no

"Be my baby" by I don't know who.
"Reach out (I'll be there)" by The Four Tops.
"Stand by me"
and their version of "Tyrone" still beats the original, in my most humble opinion.
I'm ready when you are
