When Evil Urges was being reviewed around its release date, I swear I read an article saying that other band members besides Jim James were singing some lead vocals on the album. Does anyone know if this is true, and if so, what songs? There is one verse on Smokin From Shootin that sounds like it could be someone else, but Jim always sings all the vocals live.

nope, just Jim.  This is the first album someone other than Jim's vocals were used as background vocals, however.

that all depends on whether or not you consider Carl's growling "hiiiighly suspicious" a lead or background vocal part. I'm going with lead, since it's so integral to the song...

gonna have to disagree here.  If carl is singing the lead, then Jim's part "I'm High/ Highly Suspicious of you" is a back ground vocal??? I don't think so.  And they can't both be lead vocal parts, that's the nature of lead vocals, there is only one at a time.  Not to mention that Bo is singing along with Carl at the same time as if they were "backup singers".   In other words, it's impossible for Jim, Bo, and Carl to all be singing the lead at the same time.  Jim is the lead, Carl and Bo sing back up.

It all depends on if you think the paranoid drug addict or the british bobbies are the lead actors. ;D
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

sort of reminds me of a Sondheim musical (Sweeney Todd, anyone?) in which two lead vocalists duet in such a way that they sing overtop and underneath of eachother at the same time, oftentimes lending new insights into eachother's lines, but not necessarily in such a way to detract from either?

that's it...yes....two lead vocalists!!!

It would be interesting to hear Carl or Bo take the lead on a song or two...not to steal the show, just add more dynamics. Both have a great voice (especially Bo).
