damn, I didn't know this thread would raise such controversy!

The whole Look At You = Obama thing all hit me NYE at MSG when Jim said something political in the most unpolitical way like "it's 2009 and there's a great change in the air" or something like that and then went into Look At You.  It makes all too much sense...every lyric is dead on and IT IS a perfect song for the common man to attach themselves to a leader.  At that moment, when he sang Look At You, I felt so proud to be an American.  

Hey, if you dont wanna hear about Obama, come visit me in India!  I haven't picked up a paper in 3 months.  Whats going on in the States anyway? The only time I hear Obama, is when I tell someone Im from the USA (which I can now say with pride) and they smile ear to ear and say "Obama, Good man, very good man".  And I always say, "yeah, he's a good friend of mine".  But thats about as much Obama hearsay I get...sorry for all the others who feel plagued because they feel forced to hear about such a great person everyday.  Me, I have never been so proud to say a name before.

One last thing: it's okay if songs are about things.  People write because they are influanced by people, places and things.  In the case of the song "Ohio" CSNY were influanced by the Kent State Masacare, in this case, Jim James was influanced by Barack Obama.  He's not the only one to write a song about the guy...shit, tons of songs about Bush (good and bad) came out too.  I just happen to love My Morning Jacket and love the fact that Jim wrote a song about someone who I feel a very deep connection to aswell.  Makes me feel good about being so into this band...like im doing something right.

he's got the most difficult job of anyone ever to come into office--give him a break---it's not his fault millions of idiots think he's a savior when he's just a politician? yeah he's made some mistakes in some of his appointments; he's trying to tackle green issues, middle east (extending a hand to Iran) and adding more troops to afghan (which he said he was gonna do); he said he was going to tax the rich and he has, he said he'd bail out the autos and he has, he wanted to pass the stimulus and he has (although more to come), he's always said he planned on closing guantanamo w/in a year; he's reversed the ban on stem cell research (or at least started the process), now this week he's at the G-20 which is huge. give him a break, it's been 3 months. he promised more bipartisanship and delivered somewhat..i mean he still needs to get more stiumulus passed so he can't abandon all his weapons to use on congress. i DO, however, think he needs to focus more on the financial crisis more in the next few months but that's my only beef with him. you can't fault him because expectations were so high. people put him up there because he gives hope to people---not of his own doing. in spite of all his criticisms, i think he's done a good job so far.

Your first mistake is thinking he has any power what so ever. This country has not had a real president since JFK. And look what happened when he tried to take the country back for the people...

Follow the shadow government or die, is pretty much what every president has to deal with now. They are all backed by the same money.
