Obama is God now?

I like reading the views that I don't agree with a lot, just to be informed. When at borders, I usually browse Adbusters because there is an overlap in interests between them and I.

I just got a good kick out of their most recent issue describing the "power" and "revolutionary power" of "Generation-O[bama]"

Here, a magazine devoted to anti-consumerism, loaded with ads for Scion, Nissan, etc, is marketing a brand of POLITICS as images designed to sell you on the idea that there is a counter-culture revolution in the image of Obama and the label "Generation-O".

Wow, they sure are...rebellious?

I think it's hilarious that political beliefs become life changers for people.  The fact of the matter is, like Tracy said, we are all humans, but we have different beliefs.  If everyone can remember that we are all humans, it doesn't matter what you believe in.  We should all believe in HUMANS, how we can all survive (if it throught the greater good or not)!

Show me 1 statistic that backs up your claim that the federal government has DOUBLED in size in 6 weeks. Just 1.

I have been called a communist before.  I used to tell people during W.'s reign in office: "If being called a communist means you despise your president and talk against him, then I guess I am a commmunist!"  Oh, and Tracy, I do not know what your political beliefs consist of, but can you agree that Bush was a dumbass?  I mean come on, the dude had the intelligence of a cockroach!

over govt has grown in size w/every administration; as our population and our amount of problems has also, so is life. only time will tell if obama's plan to increase the govt (because let's face it, no one is hiring other than the govt right now) will work. to sit and say it will help or it will be the end of things is stupid. WE HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING.

Cockroach? I disagree, I never voted for Bush, but he's not as dumb as a cockroach. Personally, I don't have what it takes to be president; I don't think you can be a true dumb ass.

I agree, we don't know. However, people are hiring outside the US government; that's another unsubstantiated comment that only leads to fear and panic. Check out the want ads, people are hiring.
People are starting new businesses. Is it with the unchecked fervor of the past 10 years? No. Are we getting to a place in America where we don't need a Starbucks located across the street from a Starbucks or 3 Shell gas stations with a 1/4 mile radius or 7 Walgreens in 1 zip code? I hope so.

However, I do know that making silly statements like "Obama has DOUBLED the size of our federal government in a month and a half" is 1 step short of thinking.

In fact, there's more legitmacy in the idea that Obama is God; no one can prove that he isn't God, right? But it's a fact that Obama has NOT DOUBLED the size of our federal government in a month and a half.

Unless sookie is sitting on some information, some statistic from a credible source (just 1) to back up this claim. Still not heard 1 yet (just 1). Please sookie, enlighten me; I'm man enough to admit I am wrong plus I believe in enlightenment.

I watched a show about the banking collapse the other night.  When everything was going tits up, they asked him in a press conference what he thought about the financial sector.  He responded with: "I don't know about finance. I'm not an economist.  You will ahve to ask an economist about finance."

Really? I'm not for bashing president's because I agree you have to be intelligent and hardworking, but that just wreaks of idiocracy to me.

Wreaks of idiocracy, huh.

Well, considering the word idiocracy is referring to idiosyncrasy (a characteristic, habit, mannerism, or the like, that is peculiar to an individual) then I guess you're right; the things GW does are definently like things that GW does.

Wreaks (on the other hand) just doesn't work. I think you meant "reek"?

How about:  reeks of idiocy

You have to be real careful when you are painting someone into the "dumb corner". Sometimes you end up looking dumber than the person you are attacking. FYI

most presidents do not have a grasp of economics (i think clinton and a few others the exception) even mccain admitted while running that he was weak in economics---congress is full of people who understand ZERO about economics/history or the way wall street was run; this is the norm

tracy, i don't think saying that the govt is the only one hiring is a scary thing to say. it's realistic. most companies are downsizing even if the company is doing well. companies w/surplus are not hiring because of fear of the unknown. law firms and financial firms aren't hiring, not even taking new associates; there are no manuf jobs aside from hard machinery (possibly), service sector is cutting back (as your starbucks jobs are going along w/a ton of others) employment rate going up to 12% by year's end. the fed govt has created a ton of new jobs;  how marketable is a middle-aged middle manager coming from a GM plant going to be even if there are service jobs? just wondering where all the private sector jobs are. perhaps i am missing something.

go to craigslist, monster.com, etc...

people are hiring. It's a fact, check it out yourself. I am currently looking for part time work and put in a resume yesterday for a NON GOVERNMENT job.

I wasn't trying to start anything, I just wanted to know how you felt about it.  I did mispell reeks you were correct.  As far as idiocracy, if you break the word into idio and cracy you can see idio is the root to idiot and crcay is a form of government or social/political class (per the dictionary).  That was my point.

well, I just saw a piece of FoxNews showing a job fair in New York City with 92 perspective employers hiring for over 1,000 positions.

Look, all I am doing is debunking the myth that NO ONE but the federal government is hiring. The Republicans want you to think that so they can frown on big government and the Libs want you to think that b/c they like more government.

It's simply just not true.
