QuotePenny not quite sure what that means.. But with him shutting down G-mo already he continues to scare me..

Fair trials are scary. Let's sacrifice our ideals and slander the idea of liberty instead of having them.  ::)

I see you edited.. Good idea.. I'd like to see some documentation on G-mo killing it's inmates.. I'm pretty sure like almost 500 of the 800 have been released with no charges...  And the only deaths were those of the cowards who killed themselves while in detention...

no but i give you some court cases (see Hamdi v. Rumsfeld for starters) of detainees being locked away from 3 or 4 years (german citizen) w/no charges brought, no evidence. not everyone at guantanamo was captured on a battlefield w/an assault rifle aimed at an american soldier...you should definitely try to find some 'documentation' because it's all out there. i'm not denying that most at guantanmo are terrorist scum, anyone w/common sense might admit that.  BUT lots of innocent civilians kept w/no charges and no legal trial (other than jack nicholson from a few good men telling them to give up their secrets)
but come on...there's nothing sexy about poop. Nothing.  -bbill

I say close Gitmo,  Give all the scumbags life.   Move them all to a federal prison with a large skinhead population and let nature take it's course.  It's gotta be more legal than waterboarding right ?

Forgive me for not reading the entire thread, but I must say that thinking that this song is about Obama ruins it for me, actually makes quite sick-I'll say this while we still have freedom of speech.

I wasn't saying Gitmo killed any of its inmates. I was saying that it seems like you'd rather they be killed than given a fair trial if it's a decision between the two. That you'd trade liberty away due to some irrational fear that the jailed terrorists are going to come get you. It amuses me that you call them cowards and act like you are something else. They deserve a fair trial. The Nazis got one, not because anybody liked Nazis, but because of the idea that every person accused of a crime should have a chance, if they wish, to defend themselves. Not to mention whatever innocent people at being held there.  I edited it because, while we haven't killed our prisoners, as you said, we have sacrified our ideals and slandered liberty already. I thought the new way sounded a little less angry. But, now you've made me say the angry things anyway. Damn.

Sounds like you should know your history before you talk buddy

I'm still not sure whether or not Clinton should have been asked a question to which he had to lie about in the first place. And I don't particularly like the man, either.

We also don't have a Bush or Clinton as President, which is nice.

If anything, just remember this: Hype around a president is nothing new, it's just that 95% of this forum has probably only known (conscious) life during a Bush or Clinton-era presidency (maybe a few of us were old enough to actually know what it was like under Reagan, but to me the Reagan years were full of Legos and Play-doh). I'd imagine the hype around Obama is similar to that of JFK, Ike, or maybe even the Ray-gun.

Either way, a song that means different things to different listeners succeeds quite well on a certain level, and as a result, to me this song is about my lovely beyonce and will be played at our wedding without an Obama in sight.

Well put, all but the beyonce thing.  kidding.  Just let the song be about who ever you need it to be about.  Whoever is your "glowing example of peace and glory."   ::)

Wrong! there's a significant number of Highly Suspicious detainee "heart attacks," as cause of death at Gitmo. i'm sure that the documentation you seek will be sent to you urgently due to your importance on the global stage and fair & balanced viewpoints. watch out everyone for Boogeyman Barack cause he is personally going to take our freedom of speech away from us. wait, he just edited my post. noooooooo!

QuoteThe point is he was impeached (only the 2nd President to ever be brought to trial while in office) and Bush wasn't.  What Bush has done was way worse than what Clinton did.  This seems like an obvious double standard. Get it?

yeah, i get it. clinton started the subprime mess, and bush didnt lie under oath like clinton. looks like they both suck. get it?

what's worse-- lying about a blowjob or starting an unnecessary war and losing the lives of 4000 soldiers before finishing the one that actually could have, if it's even winnable, made the world a better place. the economy... when Clinton left office there wasn't a federal deficit, in fact, there was a surplus. when Shrub left office, the deficit was over 10 trillion, that's $10,000,000,000,000 in the negative. job well done!

Neither one is good, but I think the BJ.  At least he was relaxed all the time.  Not trying to take his daddy issues out on others.

you don't think getting a BJ from a younger woman whom you're not married to isn't a mommy/daddy issue?  Presidents are mortals, they all have mommy/daddy issues. (trust me, I have had plenty of discussions about why the most powerful person on the planet would put his job at risk for a BJ; there's some deep seeded issues there).

My Monkey Friend

Clinton never got kicked out of office, and that to me is a real impeachment. i dont give a shit about some toothless impeachment vote that resulted in nothing but a headline for 2 days. Yes, bush started a stupid ass war. but clinton started the mess we are in today. without him passing the CRA in 1999 along with another lending bill, we would have not given loans to people who didnt qualify, leading to this mess.

You can't blame one guy for the problems of the world or the country. We all did it together, and have been doing it ever since the end of WWII.

And as for the song being about Obama or Bush or God or whatever.... I can bet that not even Jim had one specific person in mind for that song, but more many people in his life, or maybe all people. As a fellow artist of some sort, I don't create/write anything intending it to be about only one person or entity. And most of the time, I end up speaking more about myself than anything else, which is everything else anyway because me is you.

QuoteAt first I thought this song was all about God.  Then I realized, that this is Jim's song to our President, Mr. Obama.  So it kinda is about God I guess...

See, it's statements like that goin around that scare the shit out me...

Obama is God now?
WOw.  :D  And here I thought he was just gonna find us a cure for cancer!!

I like Obama...he seems like a geniuniely good man with good intentions.  And the man can SPEAK!!  So nice to have that in a President again.
But I sincerely fear for the future of our country in the hands of someone as politically liberal as him. He has just managed to DOUBLE the size of our federal government within his first month and a half of office.

Considering I thought our federal government was massive enough already, I'm pretty pissed off about this.

Our government is getting out of fucking hand.  Stop the country.  I want off!!

I was following the pack all swallowed in their coats with scarves of red tied round their throats..
