god, another thread with your useless information!  patrick's brother is not their booking agent, and wfpk doesn't know shit!  jim was doing mmj as a side project named "my morning jacket" long before they played on wfpk.

Quotemy girlfriend attends the Louisville Technical Institute and they took a field trip yesterday to the public radio station in Louisville...i assume it was WFPK...anyway she came back with some interesting Jacket info for her Jacket-obsessed boyfriend:

evidently every year the Friday before Valentine's Day they record the "Louisville is for Lovers" cd in their studios and it is free and open to the public!  one of the station people told her that MMJ was there (which i thought was interesting since i heard the song on the cd is just Jim playing the omnichord)

the station person also said MMJ got their name from a show they played on the radio station when they were first starting.  supposedly the name of the show was "My Morning Jacket"...and this person told her that is how MMJ got their name.  not as cool as the story Jim likes to tell about the burnt out bar in Lexington, KY with the poster...but maybe this can just add to the MMK folklore!

That's some bad info.  The Louisville is for Lovers concert at FPK is a concert that features bands from the comp, but the CD is not recorded live or at FPK studios.  I listened to the broadcast, mmj nor jim were there.  I don't know about a show on FPK called my morning jacket, but considering the source, I wouldn't believe it.

I'm not trying to hate on you, I'm just saying....

yeah, I don't get it either.  It keeps people from posting stuff that civilized people might want to discuss.  I appreciate rumors and discussion, please keep it coming and don't let the pricks get you down.

(btw, I also use to enjoy talking about song lyrics, but I wouldn't recommend starting one of those threads on this forum)

thanks...i really appreciate that.  when i heard this from my girlfriend i didn't really trust the source either and i never really claimed it was true.  i knew that jim had started MMJ as a side project, but i wasn't sure he had come up with the name yet.  if it were true i just wanted to share it with everybody...cause i love the Jacket and i know everybody on here does too!  i don't know why the person from WFPK would have told that MMJ was there...she may have gotten confused (as she sometimes does!)...anyways...sorry to post something that wasn't necessarily accurate, but just wanted to share with the group!

aMD is right. These attacks do stop people posting what's on their minds. This used to be a comfortable place to come and shoot the shit but now there are some things you just can't bring up unless you want a hail of vitriol. And it's sometimes impossible to predict what those topics might be. I mean song lyrics - what's the harm in that  ???

I've also noticed a trend in that it's often 'guests' who now start the nasty stuff. I suspect some of these are regulars who don't want their names known.

If you're ashamed to put your name on it don't post it I say.

yeah spot on.  whoever it is, he/she is pretty damn sad.  a guest is not going to get that worked up, only someone who reads this forum consistently.  i only hope i can get some asinine petty response to this post here, that would make my day!   ;)

I wonder if part of the frustration comes from the fact that if people have private conversations, they don't want to see that information thrown around the universe and made public.

If I tell my friend something in confidence, and I find out later that she told a boy that she liked because she knew it would impress him and she wanted him to like her, then I'm pretty pissed about it.  It's the same thing, really.

And it's fine to speculate, I think.  And you guys are right, people get too angry and it isn't very nice.

But, there's also the respect factor.  I can understand that it might be exciting to know some special inside information, but you also have to remember that if that information isn't public, then maybe it's not supposed to be public and there's a reason for that, and it's kind of not fair to share that private information.  I don't know about other boards or public places, but I kind of feel like this one is a pretty nice one, and it seems like there's a true comeraderie and a love for this band and a true desire to see them do well because you love them so much.  And I LOVE that.  But when people  say stuff (ie private info) that shouldn't be being said, you feel a bit weird about it, maybe.

Anyhow, that's just my opinion.  And I'm not trying to make you feel any worse, mccubbin25 because it seems like you've already taken enough backlash.

Exactly!
I once told Timmy's mate Jimmy La Fav that I thought Sandy Higgins was alright, not that I fancied 'er or anything, just that she was alright, you know?
What I didn't know at the time was that Jimmy used to play table tennis with Sandy's best mate's cousin Albert every Thursday, who is best mate with Sandy's cousin Malcom's best mate Duggie who drinks with Tim Chester (the one who works at HMV) in the Dog & Duck every Friday lunch time!
Fuckin' hell that'll teach me to keep my mouth shut!!!
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

this is the internet, folks.

The problem is people are too thinned skinned and can't just blow stuff off. They take this board stuff way too personally (and seriously) and they get their feelings hurt.

I mean, if I say I believe Don Dante is about Jim's old teddy bear, Don Dante, who was lost in  a childhood fire, I wouldn't expect people to say, "Thanks for the info" or "Wow, I never thought about that, what's your home address so I can send you some cookies" or "That's amazing, I wish I had an opinion about what Don Dante is about; guess I'll have to use yours, thanks!"

It doesn't work like that, nor should it. I would expect people to say I was full of shit, or an idiot, or clueless, or have some witty parody of my post. And you know what, I really wouldn't care.

Grow some backbone people, these are just words and some of them should be disregarded. There are plenty of serious and fruitful discussions that happen here, but if you're posting about Jim sending us sell out messages through the songs on  Z, then stand by to be laughed at.

if someone takes your opinion to heart tracy, then youve already won.   ;D

cmccubbin25

it wasn't a private conversation in that he was like don't tell anybody...i was just asking him how everybody was doing (Jim's health and Patrick's hand)..and then we talked about Bonnaroo and that is when he mentioned Europe...i was like awesome...i'm down for a European vacation!  and that was it.

i didn't get my feelings hurt or anything like that...its just why can't you make a civilized response instead of being a prick about it?  especially if you are going to sign on as a guest and do it...that is not having a backbone!
