Kidding aside, man he's been back there for 27 years. What a run. Then throw in Soundgarden and Temple Of The Dog, plus numerous other projects, I hope he enjoys the hell out of stepping away from the big guys, and maybe living a slower paced life.

I was a fan from Brothers through to Turn Blue, but never got into any of their music before or beyond that. Until "No Rain, No Flowers" which I can't stop singing right now! That plus a set-list that looks like it leans much more towards the era of music where I was a fan sold me on getting tickets! Any fans here? How are they live?

"Well hello there, If you've known me for a while, you probably know that my all-time favourite band is My Morning Jacket. You might also know that I had the great pleasure of opening for them in Toronto on their Z tour in 2005. This was because their touring opening, beloved Canadian musician Kathleen Edwards, was unable to play that particular show. Not only was this my first time playing a huge venue, it was my first time playing with a band. [Mark Vogelsang on drums and Shelby Lamb on guitar and back up vocals.] I can't prove it, though, because there are no pictures and no footage of my set. Isn't that wild?
What you might not know is that I have a podcast called Embracing Enchantment on the Women in Media network, where I explore different spiritual modalities in order to stay hopeful in this increasingly bonkers world.What you also might now know are the series of out-of-this-world synchronicities that led to my now 20+ year friendship with My Morning Jacket.

The first time I saw My Morning Jacket was 21 years ago this past Monday at the Exit/In in Nashville.
The next time I saw them was the following year, several times in a row through a wild ride of synchronicities as my planned road trip with my best friend somehow lined up with their planned tour. The dates and cities they announced lining up eerily with our plans. I didn't realize until after it was planned that this release would fall on the anniversary of my first time seeing them. We also didn't plan that Patrick would choose the date to record this podcast episode within a day of having seen them at Bonnaroo 20 years ago, on that same road trip.
Synchronicity, again?
Their new album, "is", is a gorgeous exploration of time, love, intuition and yup, every day magic. It's filled with soft and wandering songs as well as their usual head bangers paying homage to David Bowie at times as well as referencing older albums like At Dawn and It Still Moves. [I mean, at least I think so.]
I was thrilled to hang out with Patrick Hallahan, the drummer of My Morning Jacket, about the band's journey, the dynamics of long-term relationships in music, and the spiritual essence of artistic expression. We talk about profound moments in performances, the role of music in fostering hope and humanity, and the importance of nurturing your inner child. He talks about love, empathy, and community in both music and life, emphasizing that art can serve as a powerful tool for connection and healing.
